Since this new patch all my ingame settings are higher than before, my graphics quality is higher,my framrates are +10 fps easy, could actually inscrease quality settings but am rapped gta 4 works perfectly for me now. Good job Rockstar, now I will be another game from you when you release it.

Feel the pain of the guys that are still struggling.

One thing that might help is if you have a nvidia card, don't know about the ati card but I'm sure you can do this also is go into manual configuration settings for Rockstar in your graphics card console and where it says quality change that to High Performance, turn off V/Sync and put multisampling instead of supersampling.

It helped my system configuration.

Overall, yes... although, my feeling is, it's better than nothing confused.gif ... I was irritated that my Logitech Dual Action didn't work anymore, but I fixed that (I'm kinda a noob, but no dummy, so I figured out how to fix that with the commandline.txt... thanks to you guys on the forum for that, otherwise I would have been screwed! suicidal.gif )

The best I could get before was:

StatisticsAverage FPS: 16.54Duration: 36.94 secCPU Usage: 80%System memory usage: 84%Video memory usage: 62%Graphics SettingsVideo Mode: 800 x 600 (56 Hz)Texture Quality: LowRender Quality: LowView Distance: 14Detail Distance: 15HardwareMicrosoft Windows XP ProfessionalService Pack 3Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GTVideo Driver version: 181.20Audio Adapter: Realtek HD Audio outputAMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+

After patch:

StatisticsAverage FPS: 18.78Duration: 37.17 secCPU Usage: 84%System memory usage: 84%Video memory usage: 72%Graphics SettingsVideo Mode: 800 x 600 (75 Hz)Texture Quality: MediumRender Quality: MediumReflection Resolution: MediumWater Quality: MediumShadow Quality: MediumView Distance: 22Detail Distance: 10Definition: OffVSync: OffHardwareMicrosoft Windows XP ProfessionalService Pack 3Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GTVideo Driver version: 181.20Audio Adapter: Realtek HD Audio outputAMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+

I also found the sticky with the R* recommended settings for the graphics, which I didn't really know before, so that made a real improvement.

So overall, happy... the game is at least playable, now.

Thanks to the Forums again... you guys are a lifesaver. Now I can get back to blowing sh1t up.

Yeah, I'm very happy about that ***§$$§ of bytes called patch.

Now I can play NOOSE online even with a crash after a couple of seconds!

Superb..

Or after 1 minute of free mode crusing down a road..

And all the people think I'm leaving.. that_guy2057_evilgrin.gif

I never played a game in my life that was more often crashing than GTA IV..

Rockstar, get your work done mad.gif

sorry but gta4 only crashed for me with the rsc10 error with patch 1.0.1 after around 1 to 3 hours of gameplay with forcing 80% viewdistance and high textures enabled. i dunno either the new patch cured this a little or not due to having it played only a short time.

I did not have the RESC10 crash until I upgraded my PC. Then today a patch is released which declared it would fix this crash.

Now after I installed it, I still have the RESC10 crash plus random game freezes..sometimes after less than a minute, sometimes I can play until the RESC10 crash comes in. Its unplayable now :C

Game run's completely perfect now, glad I waited before pushing through the game so now it is actually really enjoyable with smooth performance.

Minimum frame rate probably went up about by about 6-10.

It's nice they added more video options so we don't have to go through loops to get decent FPS at higher resolutions, but...

I'm another who is still waiting for R* to fix the Z-fighting issue GTA4 has with ATI 36xx series cards.

I'm starting to think the only fix I'll see is me going to tiger and getting a 3850 or 4650 for $99... not sure how well those cards run GTA, but I dun have the pocket change to afford anything higher end sad.gif

this patch made the game run really smooth on my pc, which is below the minimum.

playing on 1024x768, everything on low, but good enough for me.

only thing i dont like atm is barely any asi files working, but i guess that will just take a few days for the devs to get it fixed.

I'm liking it more now that the asi loader is updated and the mods are starting to get updated as well. That was really the only downside for me, but it's fixable. Overall a great performance boost; minimum FPS is around 30 now and super smooth. Still slower when it starts raining out, but using the trainer (which works with the update) I just change the weather with the push of a button and it's all good again.

I noticed that the tuning files were not replaced, I spent so much time creating new carcols that im slightly dissapointed with the patch. Someone needs to make a patch to enable singleplayer mods since it seems as though multiplayer uses separate files anyhow.

Other than that:

Mirror reflections were fixed, runs smoother now, save game loads properly after logging in. Havent tested out the editor yet but hopefully it still works.

Mine never has worked unless that isn't the same thing as the clip capture option.

From reading through all the posts regarding the new patch, it seems that there is a definite 50/50 split between those who have improvements and those that have new problems.

Unfortunately I fall into the latter category. Before the patch I was relatively happy with the performance that my above-average machine was managing, unlike the people with average computers. It seems that the patch HAS improved things for them, giving them a 3-5 fps increase which may have been as much as 25-30% for them.

However, since the patch I am unable to even play the game, it just keeps freezing solid  after about 2 minutes of gameplay. Only option is CTRL-ALT-DEL and end the game that way.

There is also a complete lack of any method to remove the patch without a total re-install.

To summarize, seeing as Rockstar never tested the game properly at release, why should they bother testing a patch properly?

Just for info...running a totally un-modded version, with NO commandline parameters at all...I didn't need them, game ran sweet with no problems...BEFORE the patch!

Sounds like you have the clip capture leak and perhaps you didn't before? While actually playing press escape and go to the game section and turn clip capture off then restart the game,, and report back if that resolves the sudden low fps issue you are having. I had this issue and that resolved it for me with the original version and the version 1 patch and now the version 2 patch as well... thumbs up R* you ,,,,,grrr...

why even answer this crap? he doesn't know what he's talking about. just check:

Before the patch I was relatively happy with the performance that my above-average machine was managing, unlike the people with average computers.

DUH!

the performance DID improve and the missing dynamic shadows with crossfire/sli setups did get fixed and the advanced graphic setup screen is great! but now the gameplay seems f*ed up so what to conclude?

Normally, qwertz123, I would not even bother wasting my time replying to a troll like yourself, however there are a few things I would like to advise you on.

1) Through READING various posts on this forum where people are complaining about poor performance with a C2D 2.0 and a 8500GT graphics card, I would say that my C2Q 6600 and 9800GTX+1Gb is above the average.

2)BEFORE the patch everything was smooth as silk, at an average of 32-25 fps, NO stuttering, NO pop-ups, and above all, NO freezes! That to me is acceptable.

4) Since the patch, the only decent shadows seem to be with the settings at "Very High"..please tell me how this helps people with low end machines?

3) I have been an IT professional for approximately 20 years, and have run my own company for the last 10 years. If I dont know what I am talking about by now, then God save us from trolls such as yourself.

@Truehighroller: Thanks for the input, but I already have the clip capture turned off. It does seem like a memory leak, but I cannot seem to nail it down to anything specific...yet smile.gif

Answering the title of the post : NO, i am not happy with the new patch.

Since i applied it, the game stutters now and then, the game caused two (2) BSOD's and one game crash to the desktop with some video memory error. That all in 3 hours playing time. That never happened before.

I can't say i'm very happy playing GTA anymore, wondering when the game will crash.

Haha, after applying this patch I can use the medium textures with only about 2 fps drop. Isn't this amazing? Before the patch, everytime I use the medium textures the game stutters very badly and making it unplayable. And now listener has updated his Xliveless! I can't be more happier. smile.gif

Strange that this patch seems to be hitting people differently. The patch definately improved performance for me. I'm running all auto-detect settings minus the vehicle density.

My experience with this setting is anything above about 40 and you have nothing but traffic jams. I did not reinstall the game, just patch and go. The improvement I think is that

its a generally smoother play without the low-teen dips in the framerates. Plus, for some reason the lighting looks better imo. Shadows are at ten(10). Running on 8GB of ram with a

pair of 280SC in sli (manual .exe add). Oh, I'm not having the internet cafe issues some are having either. The 'E' works just fine post patch. My processor is a c2q 9300. I truly

hope RS will continue to work on this game for the people having issues. The scope and detail put-forth in this game is truly grand. Anything I might be able to add that might help-out

don't hesitate to ask. Good luck gents.

ps. Brucie is best-supporting actor in this game imo. He's a hoot!

No.

I didn't have any problems before the patch, now I'm having all sorts of problems. If I come into an area and stand there it can take more than a minute for the textures you normally see from far away to turn into the ones you see from up close, you can see where one road texture meets another because the "border" between them is transparent allowing you to see "under the world", etc.

Even more frustrating is the many objects that are just randomly missing from the game, all the objects that make up the construction area on that one bridge are completely missing, quite a few more over by that one helipad in Alderney closest to your safehouse, the foodcart/hotdog stand in front of the bike shop in Alderney. Many objects all over the city are just missing.

I mean I'm glad this patch made the game more playable for some people, but it would have been nice if they could have achieved that without screwing up my ability to enjoy the game. For me the only changes this patch made that weren't negligible, were negative. At this point I'd be very, very happy to go back to the way it was before this patch, as I had no problems and could actually enjoy playing the game. confused.gif

No, I'm not.

Maybe I gained 2 more frames/second from 1.0 but still unplayable for me.

Getting 13-33 fps (avg 23) on medium settings (res 1600*1200) + view 10, detail 20 and traffic 10.

Even on everything lowest (res 1024*768) it's the same as medium (13-33 fps (avg 23))...talk about CPU dependent.

sh*tty port...there's no way around it.

Reinstalled after hating on this game for weeks. Patched now and everything seems 'ok'. But I haven't reached the part of the game where I was crashing before. Time will tell. moto_whistle.gif

Performance is still wack for the system I have and the visuals I get. Shadows are still crap. And the lack of AA (yes I know it will never happen) is the worst. icon13.gif

Game is still bad for me and very frustrating. OK, now I have much smoother gameplay but the problems I am facing still exist. Sometimes my radio will not work, neither will my phone. Today I tried pressing E to access the computer at the Internet Cafe and it wont work... I restarted the game and same thing.

This game still has too many bugs!
