Hi there i have installed the patch and see in the description that they add controller /steer support

but i dont get it to work can someone help me with the directinput ting

• Direct input device support is now disabled by default and can only be enabled with the commandline: "-usedirectinput

GreetZ P

Open notepad. Type "-usedirectinput" (without quotes). Save as "commandline" (without quotes) into GTA IV root directory.

It´s told hundreds of times how to use commandline. Please use search feature next time. Thanks.

thx m8, it did the trick .

I called the file commandline.txt instead of commandline biggrin.gif

its workin fine now.

I did the same stupid mistake... blush.gif

It is working now... Thanks buddy !

u people need to wake up and make file extensions visible. Want to click on a virus exe by accident or something? commandline.txt.txt pff.

icon14.gif @*R, ty for continued support.

I think everyone should stop complaining because we are not being listened to. If we were we would get answers, and I bet those answers would be simple little ones that would make everyones GTA IV experience on the pc the best it can be. I think after reading all these topics and posts that GTA on pc is dying and wont be around for long, and I really think this is because of piracy. Do you really blame Rockstar for creating games for money and not for peoples enjoyment? Who cares if a game makes 100,000 instead of millions, as long as it covers costs, wages and development for a new game it is all good, just one less marble bench in Rockstars foyer. I wish the world would stop being gready and take a good look at itself. Wow thats deap.

After some time playing with the new patch, I'm definitely going back to the first one.

The performance didn't change at all, I still get a drop on the FPS when it's raining and when you turn the lights on during the day. Plus, it seems like everything is kinda of "blurred", it's like I've pressed the P button again... I HATE that effect, makes me sick while playing, really.

Oh and that benchmark is a complete lie. How in the hell can I have an average of 48 FPS on the benchmark, and when I play in the game, the FPS barely touch the 35 FPS mark? Is that a joke? dozingoff.gif

Really Rockstar, you guys need to work more on the next patch, and add stuff that matters. I know it's not easy, but cmon, every patch you release makes the game worse and not better. At least for some people it's worse, like in my case.

Oh and next time, try to improve the multiplayer a little bit. I hate that system, I mean, I finish a game and I want to play the next game with my mates, but suddenly I'm on another server, playing with other people... that sucks. Plus, if you're the host, why can't you give a direct kick? Sometimes we have cheaters or stupid people that kill their own teammates, and you can't kick them, even if you're the host. WTF...

I'm going to stick with the first patch. Here's my computer specs, btw.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

Nvidia XFX 9600 GT 512 MB DDR3

2 x 1 GB Team Xtreem Dark DDR2 PC8500

ASUS P5K-C

Windows XP Service Pack 3

I used to be able to get decent performance when alt-tabbing. Now my SLI setup is performing worse than before the patch. f*ck this, uninstalling GTA IV now..

Not announcing this patch way ahead of it's release was a bad idea and those that hoped it was coming were being set up for disappointment as a result. Performance remains the top talked about issue and yet it doesn't appear to have been addressed as there is wide disparity between results for different users.

Can Rockstar Toronto get their act together and confirm there will be a performance-dedicated patch?

This patch is overall an improvement and another step in the right direction. The graphics options were greatly needed.

However I simply can't understand how Rockstar Toronto continues to botch this game. I'm getting non stop crashes now. Anytime I set a new option and hit enter it crashes. Plus for whatever reason it takes 20 seconds just to go to the Rockstar logo screen, it just sits there with a black screen. I mean the goddamn game already takes way to long to load as it is. They seem to introduce new bugs with every patch. I've never seen this happen before with any game for any system in my 15 years of PC gaming. Not large, game breaking bugs introduced with each new patch like this.

I'm not even upset anymore TBH, I'm more in a state of disbelief. It's one thing when a company forces a product out the door to make money, hires staff on the cheap or the game is released too early. Usually a company would have their best and brightest working to resolve the problems because they care about their name. Rockstar doesn't seem to care about their customers, their name or seem have anyone that knows anything about GTA IV working on this. It's one screw up after another. People think Rockstar just wanted this game out for the holidays so they could capitalize. Honestly though, I don't think this is totally the case. I think a large part of the problem is that the devs at Rockstar Toronto just know what the hell they're doing. They must be interns, working only on the weekends, totally hungover and being paid $4.50 an hour.

I'm very close to just giving up on this game. I mean how many times can one reinstall and troubleshoot a game before simply giving up? How many regular customers would go through the trouble some of us have gone through? I've tried to be positive through this whole thing, to not be critical or rude but I mean what the f*ck?

The games engine is designed the way it is, I'm beginning to think any performance increases will be very minor. The odds of a patch that completely rework the games coding to not rely so heavily on the CPU and actually utilize the many other aspects of a good PC (like a good port should) are slim to none. That sort of stuff is usually done in the months spent porting the game. If you want a performance increase now, you'll have to upgrade your processor to a Tri- or Quad-Core CPU. If you already have one, you can upgrade your video card and RAM and enjoy the 4-5 fps boost if your current hardware is bottlenecking you (the little bit it can in a game that doesn't use them correctly), otherwise you're stuck. Just enjoy the game you have and the minor framerate increases and stability improvements (or lack thereof) you do get through driver updates and game patches. Not trying to be rude, but I really believe it's the truth at this point. Sorry... *shrug*

As for this patch, I didn't notice any performance improvements and while I havent really gotten a chance to play for very long, I have a strange feeling the game is at least a little more stable. Less crashes, less game randomly freezing, that sort of stuff. I could be wrong though. The additional options in the Graphics menu is nice as well. smile.gif

Crossing my fingers for more updates!

@ Pixelated: I was noticing a lot of the problems you're talking about ever since I bought the game, minus the non-stop crashing. Though that's the sort of stuff I have a feeling this patch helped a little with, for me at least. They haven't been as much of a problem in the little I played. The game's still a mess.

after the R* logos end and you get the main RSSC screen, if you try to edit game options there the game will crash, if you load your game and change options then it will work without crashing, well thats what i found on my game anyhoo!

Yeah thanks. I've tried it both ways. If I try to change the options before loading a game it will just crash to desktop. If I load a game then change the options when I hit save it just locks up. I tried waiting it out but nothing. I have to hit CTL-ALT-DEL and when Windows Task Manager is open I can see the WerFault.exe there meaning the game is crashing but just not to the desktop. Madness.

Well i was very surprised when starting the game Windows-live told me. 'a new patch is available for this game' as I would have bet 50 cent that R* wouldn't release a new patch.

So installed everything and started playing in single well:

i noticed lot of new graphic options, and that by default the game set graphic details on high (i have a 9800 Gt).... can't run the game as it was, as i do not have a super processor (dual core 1,8 ghz) never mind though; so set all options as they used to be some low some med, exept to distance details and stuff i have add +5 and +10: well it works pretty much better than before i mean.

Just got kicked out 3 times from MP game, with a sudden game crash... then i tried to change server and played 3 hours without probs.

Well in my opinion this patch improved the game by setting graphic details as they I used to set it runs smoother: just hope not to have more problems with MP game.

Wow a patch that makes thing worse sweet...Crashes lots, still no sli support...I heard somebody say that it is, but I still only have 512mb of usable ram in the graffics options...I have 2 9800gx2, so there should be 2 gigs right? This is for sure the last rockstar game I buy...When I first applied the patch it reset all my settings and I was surprised to notice that it finally defaulted to 1900x1200, but wait there's a catch texture detail set to low!! F*ck you R*...If I can run Crysis on ultra high at 1900x1200 then I should be able run this. And crysis is a famously flawed game!!

This is a great patch, but I hope Rockstar has learned a lesson here (as this patch pretty much verifies they admit they made a mistake)... that lesson is, never take control away from PC gamers, fiddling with option menus is what we do all the time, and scaled, forced settings are a huge no-no.

You apparently never learn rockstar,

Don't make patches mandatory !

Now I am forced in offline mode, simply because I decided not to apply the patch.

Absolute rubbish.

Clearly a troll.

So that proves the trolls lurk among us and some reports of issues, are false.

It seems you can never please some people, they'll always find something to gripe about.

Rockstar, thank you very much!

I can now play with great FPS at 1024x768 (medium quality) and reasonable FPS at 1280x1024 (low quality)

A *vast* improvement. Prior to this patch, for me, the game was only playable at 800x600.

Well done - a very speedy "re-patch" indeed. For those of you who think Rockstar were slow to update, you've obviously clueless as to the processes behind something as complex as this game - actually, no, your just clueless all round really wink.gif

i hope thats not directed to me? this deserves moaning about http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/948/gta...10315412pd6.png

Dude, I see the same thing on the ground now also.

Been trying to just ignore it.

I still have an unpatched yet lightly modded version in my mydocs

folder that I am a few hours into saves. runs about as good but lower settings

I will just play that one, unless they figure a way I can use the saves and import them

because game back up is a bit tedious on iv unmodded,

Torronto, LOve your work and efforts.

But hey guy, go visit the mod section

These people are dedicated to your work

please get some ideas from them

I am sure they will be honored.

did they change independence radio in 2nnd patch? it plays user tracks. other times its like a talk radio station and after there done talkin it kicks back to the user tracks.

anyone else have this prob??

Isn't it supposed to be like any other radio station, but instead of regular music, it plays your music in between commercials and stuff...?

oh... is there any way to turn off the talk radio part and just have your own music playin??

Yes, in the audio options there should be several options to flip through on the user radio. One makes it radio-style, one just plays the songs like a play list.

After installing this patch, the game doesn't detect my savegames anymore (even though they are in the same folder as before, I've checked), any clues as to why this happens?

Today we released patch version 1.2 for Grand Theft Auto IV on the PC.

Thanks Rockstar.

Additionally, as a result of the patch we had to disable the default setting for direct input device support. To re-activate your supported gamepad simply enter the commandline, "-usedirectinput".

Hold on - everyone cries out for DirectInput support and the freedom to use their own controllers, assign axes and buttons as they wish, and you get half way there by adding directinput support in patch 1. Now you backtrack and disable it by default. I can't be the only one wondering why.

PATCH 1 FIXES:

• Direct input device support is now disabled by default and can only be enabled with the commandline: "-usedirectinput"

Supported Controllers:

o Logitech Dual Action

o Logitech RumblePad 2

o Logitech Cordless RumblePad 2

o Saitek P2500

Supported Wheels:

• Note: Controls are unmapped, user must map controls using Manufacturer's mapping software.

o Logitech G25 Racing Wheel

o Logitech Wingman Formula GP Wheel

o Logitech MOMO Racing

o MOMO Force

o Driving Force Pro

o Driving Force

o Formula Force

I'm somewhat confused by this statement. You say that directinput support is disabled by default, but then list supported controllers. Do you mean these controllers should work without enabling directinput? Or do we have to enable directinput before we try and use them? I have a Logitech Rumblepad 2 and Logitech Driving Force Pro, and since the patch the Rumblepad 2 no longer works, and the wheel doesn't work either. I haven't yet tried with the commandline option to enable directinput.

(EDIT) Ah, the Rockstar support page describes it better:

Currently Supported Controllers:

We are actively working on adding support for a larger variety of gamepads. For now here is a complete list of all controllers compatible with Grand Theft Auto IV PC:

    * XBOX 360 for Windows (Controller)

    * Wireless XBOX 360 Controller

    * Joytech 360 pad (Controller)

    * Pelican TSZ360 Pad (Controller)

    * MadCatz 360 (Controller)

    * MadCatz 360 Pro (Controller)

    * MadCatz 360 MicroCon (Controller)

    * Bigben Controller BB7201 (Controller)

    * MadCatz Arcade GameStick 360

    * Logitech Chillstream

After Title Update 1.0.2.0 is applied, Direct Input support can be enabled by using the commandline usedirectinput. The following Direct Input controllers are now supported:

Supported Controllers:

    * Logitech Dual Action

    * Logitech RumblePad 2

    * Logitech Cordless RumblePad 2

    * Saitek P2500

Supported Wheels:

Note: Controls are unmapped, user must map controls using Manufacturer's mapping software.

    * Logitech G25 Racing Wheel

    * Logitech Wingman Formula GP Wheel

    * Logitech MOMO Racing

    * MOMO Force

    * Driving Force Pro

    * Driving Force

    * Formula Force

@ Truxter below - try losing the attitude sunshine, for what was a perfectly valid query.

I upgraded from v1.0 last night to 1.0.2 and it all went well. However, I have noticed that I now get a lot more stutter with the game.. when moving the camera etc. It's strange as my benchmark has gone from 38fps to 43fps.

It is certainly not as playable as with v1.0 though. The stutter is really offputting. Any idea what could be causing this?

I'm using reasonable settings:

Texture: Medium

Rendering: High

The new settings: High

View distance / detail: 40

Car density: 100

Shadow density: 0

Vsync: On (if off I get awful screen tearing)

Definition: yes

Clip capture: off

Spec in my signature. I'm running the latest Nvidia drivers.

The only command line params I use now are the -fullspecaudio one. I took off the availablevidmem param and the game is only using around 500mb of vid memory.

Any advice would be appreciated.

quoted just to show who I am talking to

"-usedirectinput".

You even typed it yourself

You surely can not be that damn stupid..

Because they did not strip the ability completely out and make it something you command on your own, means there might be a small flaw between the new patch and control pads. I would bet they are working on a new patch. I mean it makes perfect sense. at least to the sensible.

I can't even play now...Just crashes every 5 minutes...Which sucks cuz it takes 5 minutes to load...I was just about done the game too. I was actually running pretty good after the last Nvidia driver I installed (newest)

My only day off this week, I was looking forward to playing...Oh well left for dead it is.
