truehighroller
Just format my PC to XP 64bit today, install back GTA IV and update with patch 2, i got superb fps even with weak 8500GT but after 5 min, i got missing textures . Patch 2 doesn't fix it The clip capture has a memory leak in it that I have been expieriencing from the get go of this game and they have yet to fix it. That might be what your issue is, try to turn it off.

Maybe this has been the issue the whole time is that the clip capture is not coded to work right for what ever reason "sh*ty coding" on 64 bit systems... udedenkz
One thing that (out of many) is just idiotic is that GTAIV required Visual C++ 2005 x86. It will not run with C++ 2005 x86_64, C++ 2008 x86, and not with C++ 2008 x86_64 Enhanced for 64-bit my ass.

sgtmay
i played the game for a week with XP 32 bit(never had a problem other than it was slow)... upgraded to XP x64 edition and the game played great for about 10 minutes..... and then after completing a mission the phone rang and it took him forever to answer it. While i was waiting for him to answer the phone i started looking around and noticed a lot of missing meshes..... cars were floating in the air where the bridge was supposed to be. I drove around immediately after that and started catching up to extremely low detailed models with other things around the block including terrain completely missing...except the collision for the meshes. Even trying to get inside my apartment to save became a chore of memory and patience while waiting for the room to load completely so the bed would show up for me to save my progress. I never experienced this problem in win32 so i would assume it is a x64 issue. Has any one else experienced this or a similar issue? here's my system specs: System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 2/7/2009, 00:32:42 Operating System: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (5.2, Build 3790) Service Pack 2 (3790.srv03_sp2_rtm.070216-1710) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: MSI System Model: MS-7369 BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ (2 CPUs), ~2.2GHz Memory: 2048MB RAM Page File: 333MB used, 3633MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.3790.3959 64bit Unicode Display Devices --------------- Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce 9600 GT DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0622&SUBSYS_12701462&REV_A1 Display Memory: 512.0 MB Current Mode: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (60Hz) Monitor: Default Monitor Monitor Max Res: Driver Name: nv4_disp.dll Driver Version: 6.14.0011.8122 (English) DDI Version: 9 (or higher) Driver Attributes: Final Retail Driver Date/Size: 1/15/2009 08:19:00, 8945408 bytes WHQL Logo'd: Yes Sound Devices ------------- Description: Realtek HD Audio output Default Sound Playback: Yes Default Voice Playback: Yes Hardware ID: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_14627369&REV_1000 Manufacturer ID: 1 Product ID: 100 Type: WDM Driver Name: RTKHDA64.SYS Driver Version: 5.10.0000.5713 (English) Driver Attributes: Final Retail WHQL Logo'd: Yes Edited February 7, 2009 by sgtmay

Will6969
It's cool to see Rockstar posting on here! Nice to see dedication on their behalf towards fixing up the game too! Can't wait till I pick it up, gonna rock!
ravenmorpheus
Oooh another patch. Let's see if it helps on my rig (Asus M70Vm, nVidia Geforce 9600M GS, C2D P8400 2.2ghz 4GB RAM)... Nice to see they've added more optimization options but why couldn't they have been there in the first place? EDIT: And unsurprisingly this patch does nothing for the performance of the game on my Asus... Edited February 7, 2009 by ravenmorpheus

ravenmorpheus
the patch has been around for a while now, where have you been? smoking crack? No I've been playing Fallout 3 in high settings with a comfortable 30-40 fps... And this patch has only been out for about 2 weeks now and seeing as I don't regularly check for patches because I don't play GTA IV because it's performance is so shocking on my rig it's not surprising I've only just noticed it. Let's see if it helps on my rig (Asus M70Vm, nVidia Geforce 9600M GS, C2D P8400 2.2ghz 4GB RAM)... Grand Theft Auto IV isn't really designed for laptops, sorry. wuzzy
I see. I would have thought, with your spec, it would be very playable. I'm glad you haven't been smoking crack then. ahhh but I didn't realise that is a laptop.

I'm glad you haven't been smoking crack then. ahhh but I didn't realise that is a laptop. Yeah I'm a "mobile gamer", I don't own a desktop because I game in various places (round my mates, at the office, on the way to and from the office etc.) so I use a laptop, and as usual laptops are not considered when a game is made or when a games specs are listed... I'm starting to get very tired of the "oh you're using a laptop, sorry we don't support them" attitude of games companies. I know my laptop isn't all that great but it runs Fallout 3 pretty damn well, it's just a shame R* and other companies don't learn from Bethesda... And thank you Mr Anonymous for that piece of information, I didn't know that. Can you find any current game that is really designed for a laptop? BobJustBob
BUT I HAVE FOUND 2 MAJOR BUGS!!Im the first on reporting this !! and those major bugs are: ->YOU CAN'T USE THE COMPUTERS (of the cibercafe and the one that is in the safehouse) -I have to unlock the achievement of brucie's cars (have to steal them from specific people) and i can't because i cant use computers. i can not be bothered to read this whole useless thread, so this has most likely already been pointed out. but oh boy... you wrote it in red and claimed to be the 1st to report this, as if to claim some kind of credit. how foolish you look now, for we all know the computer "bug" is related to using a cracked file. so you rushed here beating your chest, thinking you discovered bugs, when all you did was declare that you use cracks, at the time unbeknownst to you. thanks for the laugh wannabe. There is no service pack 3 for XP Pro x64 Edition or Windows Server 2003 they are basically the same thing as far as Microsoft is concerned. im not sweatin a .2 ghz deficit on my processor.... i could easily overclock it to make up the difference. If you have the 200 bucks to lend me so i can upgrade again what i just upgraded to last week i would be more than happy to upgrade my Graphics card i dont think you understand why i posted what i did....... its a 64 bit support issue that deals specifically with XP x64 Edition. I can tweak this machine to get 14~26 fps in a win32 environment..... i cant even get it to reliably load all the game content in a XP 64 bit environment over a 30 minute time span. im not complaining about the frame rates im complaining about the total lack of 64 bit support for XP x64 edition. which is exactly why i posted this in the update thread.... its something that i thought they said had been addressed with this patch. heat84
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT I would recommend you to try to upgrade to a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT or higher. A 9600 should be fine. And Nvidia 9000 series cards are rebranded 8000 series cards(Some of them anyway). A higher model number doesn't necessarily mean better. Apparently an 8800 is equivalent to a 9800 other than a few features. I hope Nvidia cuts that rebranding sh*t out from now on.
noid449
i think you will find the nvidia is going to be rebrand cards like the 8800gtx and the 9800gtx and the ( and again 8800gts) ... they are going to have 200 series numbers .

mkey82
OK, I have this "new" problem. With "Late checkout" mission. I.e. it won't run. As soon as you get to the hotel, the game start to load and hangs. I tried... * retail version of the game * both 1.0.1.0 and 1.0.2.0 versions. Haven't tried it on a clean install, though. * both 9.1 and 8.12 Catalyst versions on a fresh (installed on Friday) and clean Vista. As a side note, I uploaded my savegame, if anyone would be willing to pass this mission, save and upload the file back to me I would be really thankful. It's a small download, less then 50k. You are probably going to need some xlive wrapper for this to work. Just load, you'll be in the safehaouse on East Park (or whatever it's called) and go the the RB for the mission, then drive to the hotel. I don't know what happens next SGTA411.7z Thanks.
