Kurgen
I'm about 32% done, and having fun. this forum is full of twats. So, the fact that a game doesn't work on someone's PC makes them a "twat"? I'd really like to know how you came to this earth-shattering conclusion. Marcin6
Look , there is a new update to Saint`s Row 2 , and they did what Rockstar can`t : General performance increase around 20%. Note that this will vary depending on the both computer specifications and game settings
latearrival
Apart from the occasional slow-down I had no issues before patch 1.2. Unfortunately, this patch is a *major step backwards* for me - it has introduced really bad pop-up, everything from small objects that are 10 feet away to huge buildings that are a few streets away. Pop-up is so bad it has rendered the game unplayable. I'm running XP SP3 with an E6600 and a GTX 260. I was premature. Rebooted and it ran fine. zmoonchild
Rockstar, I want to know if you’re going to address the issue of the items that were removed from the game (as a result of this latest patch); items such as traffic cones, temporary fences, hotdog venders, etc. These may not seem like much, but they do affect the overall aspect of how the game is now played. First, were these items removed intentionally? If so, for what purpose? Second, is there going to be any attempt to put these times back into the game? Third, were there any other removals from the game that were not as obvious as the aforementioned items? Have any other aspects of the game been altered? I believe that an official response regarding this issue should be in order. Whether this was intentional on your part or not, this has now changed the PC version of GTA IV in relation to it’s console counterparts. Game play is now different, even if it still only constitutes minor changes. I, as well as several other PC Gamers, would consider a response in this matter to be something that should be taken seriously, and it would also be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Z. mkey82
These may not seem like much, but they do affect the over aspect of how the game is now played. Nice and formal but people have reported some of that stuff got back after doing a clean install+patch 1.0.2.0 (without 1.0.1.0) and *without* any cracks. Chris_Waddle
Well I am very happy with the release of this new patch. Before the patch I got the dreaded RESC10 error after about 5-10 minutes of playing. I have a Q6600 at 3.6ghz, 2x2gig PC8500 dominator ram at 1110mhz and a GTX280 H20C (pre-overclocked to 680 / 1458 / 2450). With the system configuring it, the game lasted no longer than 5mins (my resolution is 1920x1200 - native for my monitor). The system configuration was around 768meg out of the 1001meg available. If I lowered textures to medium and everything else to very high, both distances to 100, and vehicle density to 65 I could play without any issues. As soon as I ran the textures on high (even with all other items reduced to min) it would crash after 5 mins. My G/Card would only be showing around 200 out of 1001meg. The new patch has enabled me to turn the textures back to high and play the game. With auto configuration, I can play now for over an hour before I get some slow down. I know that this still isn't right. It should play indefinately, but it's at least long enough me to complete missions and save the game. I have had to turn off the video capture though. What I found interesting though was that if I added the -norestriction to the commandline.txt file I am able to run just as long with textures on high, everything else at very high, both distances at 100, vehicles at 65 (I don't want more) and shadow density at 5 (haven't tried increasing this from default). It tells me that my game is now set at 1579 / 1001meg. At these settings it looks fantastic and runs over 40fps. At times it dips to mid 20's, with the cut scenes playing at 71fps. I'm well happy at this. I can only hope that if there is a future patch, my RESC10 errors will go completely. I did try recording a video with FRAPS, but a 3min AVI was 4gig! If I can find a way of compressing it without compremising the quality, I will try posting it. It really does look fantastic at 1920x1200 with all settings maxed out. As for duffman12, the reason your scores are not changing is because your CPU at 2.4ghz is restricting your game. I know it's a quad core, but your low cpu speed is stopping it going higher. If you overclock your cpu, you will see improved performance.

tegraT
System requirements from the back of the DVD box: Memory - 1GB XP Videocard - 256MB NVIDIA 7900 Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz My spefications: Memory - 4GB Videocard - 768MB EVGA 8800 Ultra Superclocked Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2.66 GHz Drivers - 181.22 That should actually be even about double the recommended system requirements - e.g. 2GB memory - and as my display only allows maximum resolution of 1680x1050, those parts are easily good enough to play new games with high/ultra high settings. GTA IV, however, looks like crap with that resolution as there's no anti-aliasing at all - not to mention the ugly shadows and some other issues. Even though the patch 2 supposedly had some optimization, it still looks like crap, and I'm not happy how it works. It just doesn't work smoothly enough compared to the fact that it really doesn't look that good. I guess I'll wait another 1-3 months for the next patch(es) and see if something has changed. SamJigga
any idea to fix the sh*t with the onternet pc cafe?? For those of you having problems with the patch due to the crack: Uninstall, keep your savegames, and reinstall. Works great! The problem is I only played the game with the patch on, due to the fact that people said it works better etc. But then when I had to reinstall and didn't apply the patch the game worked the same. The only major difference is that you can modify some settings that you couldn't without the patch, and that half of the city's details is gone. Now without the patch it feels like a much better graphical experience. So, the new performance boost Rockstar said the patch made is due to the fact that they removed all the details, instead of working on the graphics engine of the game. Don't worry, reinstall, copy fedors crack and works like a charm. Thanks Rockstar for this extraordinary game. You are the best. PS: Saints Row 2 sucks, I started playing yesterday and crashed the damn car 10 seconds after I got in. Uncontrollable vehicles! Stick to GTA. SamJigga
Oh and BTW, I'm using the pirated version because in my country, the game prices are usually almost double than in UK or US in the first months, so I always wait 6-12 months before buying a game. I'll buy it eventually, it's a great game to add to the collection. Oh well, I might also buy the PS3 version when I get one.

Thanks for the response, but that raises another question: Should I try uninstalling and reinstalling the game with only the newer patch? I have read a few posts where people have reinstalled and were unable to play their saved-games after that… I know that there’s s way to correct that, but it seems like there’s still a risk. I'd rather Rockstar simply correct the problem, since there wasn't anything wrong prior to that patch being installed, and I've noticed no improvement afterwards. xtaz
Strange thing.. Before the second patch I had ~25FPS with high/high/20/20/20/0. After applying the second patch, I see no major frame drop when playing at high/high/50/50/50/3. When I use 100/100/100 though, my average FPS would be something like 15-20. Looks like the patch actually made a little difference after all, at least for me.
ImoonPeople
So I posted before and said the patch is pretty good, which it is, but now I get the Out of Video memory error more. I use the mem restrict number for medium textures and it crashes after a while of play. I used to be able to play for hours without anything but now it seems like if I hit the pause button after a while of play it cant handle it and crashes. the video editor is hit or miss, I was making a long vid with lots of edits only to have it crash in the middle of it. Time wasted, video not saved, can we please get this memory issue under control. I think its fixed one day only to have it crash the next because I played it "too long". Sorry to sound if i'm upset, I love the game and have 70 hours in it, but within those 70 hours is about 10 hours of tweaking and crashing. I hope the next patch will really tie up the loose ends. Thank you again for your hard work, just needs a little more polish.
