Pixelated
Anyone else have a problem where the game freezes up when applying video settings? It keeps happening over and over as well as taking 20+ seconds to load the title screen. I get a black screen for 20 seconds or so before the "Rockstar is the greatest" screen . I guess I should expect this by now. We should expect that the second patch will introduce a few new problems or even demand a fresh install to work correctly. Pretty annoying but I suppose it could just be an issue on my end.
MorlockGod
So, do i need to remove my clothes mods before i apply the new patch? Well I'm not a Mod, but I would recommend at least removing your shirt first, as you will get far more benefit from the patch. Being completely naked is probably overkill, unless you used to be an extremely heavy smoker and in that case I would suggest trying our new all-in-one nicotine bodysuit. Good luck. The Horror Is Alive
Unbelievable... Not really worth bothering on that machine, is it mate? Mmm, at least it works and I managed to finish the game already. I don't really like GTAIV anyway. The guns and hospital fees are expensive, the dating/friends is/are oh-so annoying, and the game runs like a two-legged turd. If it wasn't for the fact that a lot of people will be giving me their portable HDDs and whatnot at school to copy the game onto, I would uninstall it

OabAli
After reading all the posts (took about an hour) I'm sold in getting the patch. Screw my download limit! I recently upgraded Forceware from 180.48 to 181.22 and saw noticeable increase from occasional <20 FPS to occasional 23+ FPS, and averaging at 30 - 35 FPS, which is great. Thnx nVidia. In the meantime, here is a benchmark I did with patch 1.01 and Forceware 181.22. I will upload a benchmark that has patch 1.02 installed later. The benchmark clip is an explosion at a gas station with plenty of cars involved. See specs in sig. StatisticsAverage FPS: 24.82Duration: 32.23 secCPU Usage: 57%System memory usage: 52%Video memory usage: 96%Graphics SettingsVideo Mode: 1280 x 960 (60 Hz)Texture Quality: MediumRender Quality: HighView Distance: 25Detail Distance: 50HardwareMicrosoft Windows XP Home EditionService Pack 3Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT Video Driver version: 181.22Audio Adapter: Realtek HD Audio outputIntel Pentium III Xeon processorFile ID: 090123172806.cli This patch generally makes an improvement performance-wise, and I am happy that my framerates very rarely hit below 21 FPS (instead of occasionally), and despite the below benchmark, I get about 25 - 38 FPS average, which is great (not choppy IMO). Overall a 2 - 4 FPS increase. No internet cafe issues (for me at least), no crashes, better performance, more graphics options and controller support - a solid patch. Still some ugly shadows and no AA, but easily overlooked. Well done R*! Good to know you still support the game! OabAli
26fps with your spec That isn't good I'm happy with my current framerates. I don't have the expectations that many others have, who demand a constant 40+ FPS and high settings. Beats the hell out the frustrating 16 - 19 FPS I used to get. Besides, your settings are lower than mine. Shadow density and traffic density affect performance significantly. What is your benchmark video? Is it just an interior ? Mine had explosions and a 4-star wanted level going on.

With your low fps I would lower your settings - anything under 30 begins to impact playability in my opinion.

shivanandrs
No change whatsoever. Game still goes into BSOD about 3 minutes into play. Great. Check your ram. Nvidia 8800 GTS 512MB Drivers - 185.20 All other intense 3D games run like hot butter (Saints Row 2, Tomb Raider Underworld, PS2 emulator using FFX and FFXII) If you are using the -availablevidmem command try lowering the setting to 1.6. This is what i use and get high textures.

SlingShotUK
Hi guys, I upgraded from v1.0 last night to 1.0.2 and it all went well. However, I have noticed that I now get a lot more stutter with the game.. when moving the camera etc. It's strange as my benchmark has gone from 38fps to 43fps. It is certainly not as playable as with v1.0 though. The stutter is really offputting. Any idea what could be causing this? I'm using reasonable settings: Texture: Medium Rendering: High The new settings: High View distance / detail: 40 Car density: 100 Shadow density: 0 Vsync: On (if off I get awful screen tearing) Definition: yes Clip capture: off Spec in my signature. I'm running the latest Nvidia drivers. The only command line params I use now are the fullspecaudio one. I took off the availablevidmem param and the game is only using around 500mb of vid memory. Any advice would be appreciated.
