Huge GTA IV: The Lost and the Damned Hands-on

Recommended Posts

peter_griffin

first off i agree with leelee, i have been waiting for GTA to show the biker aspect of the world. and 2nd i was just cruising around and popped off one of the angels of death and i noticed a huge knife in a sheath on his waistband and it made me wonder if that is another weapon that wasnt shown in the preview

He could wear the same clothes all the way through for all I care. It`s the gang dynamic I`m most excited about. Especially triggering dialogue by riding in formation and boosting up your buddies ability by keeping them alive. I guess that`s why the chieve`s called FULL CHAT.

And a pool table in the clubhouse, hope it`s got better cushions than that one in the Homebrew cafe (even if it was a nice touch by R*) can`t wait.

I do hope some of this new stuff will carry over to multiplayer. Or will they perhaps make TLAD have its own multiplayer? I know about the co op, Im mostly talking about whats to become of freemode. Will there be two different free modes, one for IV and one for TLAD? Or will they be integrated together? Its all very confusing to me.

I think i read in one of the previews that TLAD's multiplayer is going to be seperate from IV.

Atleast i'm guessing it will be like that, since the rest of TLAD is seperated from IV (you can't use any of the new weapons/vehicles, new interiors or the new side features in TLAD in Niko's side of the game).

I f*cking HATE Microsoft now. I'll never get to play this, because I'm not going buy a 360 just to for this, so I'll guess I'll just have to wait and hope that itis a timed exclusive, and that it will be released on PS3 someday, but that's really unlikely.

Anyway, the DLC itself seems awesome. And there's going to be another, most likely better one that I won't be able to play either. F*ck you, Microsoft. F*ck you.

I totally agree with u about the MS. That is one huge bullsh*t, sh*tting in the face of PC gamers. Talk about equality.

With all the above said and done, Lost and Damned isn’t going to change the opinions of the jaded generation who back-flipped on their love of the series with GTA IV. This isn’t the Jetpack DLC, or the now-you-can-fly-planes pack. GTA IV is the start of a new tangent for Rockstar, and while many fans of the GTA III trilogy have turned their back on the series – possibly opting for the San Andreas-like Saints Row 2 – a new breed of GTA lover has risen in their place. The Lost and Damned is very much about satisfying those people, rather than trying to lure back the jaded.

Best part.

I don't understand... how can you change from Niko to Johnny and vice versa?

The DLC makes me feel the hype I had of GTA IV when it came out last year on April 29th!

R* really has outdid themselves!

GTA IV & The Lost and Damned = seperate games. The only thing they have in common is that they both require the GTA IV disc to play. A menu comes up once you put the GTA IV disc in and you choose which game you want to load up. It's as simple as that.

And I agree completely. I'm stupidly exited about TLAD. But then again, I've been overly exited about the whole thing ever since the first details were announced biggrin.gif

I have been suggesting running your own gang and building them up and managing them. I never thought it would be done like this. Training your fellow gangsters like pokemon? This is pure f*ckwin.

One thing though, I noticed the absence of tattoos on Johnny. If you can't get tattoos and you can't buy new clothes, I don't care about the gang running feature, I might not buy it.

With the biker DLC, I was planning on skeeting due to playling L&D with a badass biker dude with mad tats and crazy biker clothes listening to "Voices" while I'm in the middle of a shootout. Really that provides the best atmosphere I have ever experienced in a game before.

•Eagle-eyed gamers would have noticed that Johnny’s character in the original GTA IV was far more detailed than most of the bit part players, which Rockstar believe was the biggest hint that he would end up starring in the DLC. Is there a second character in GTA IV that has similar attention to detail who may star in the second episode? You tell us below!

My guess would be Phil Bell, as you dont know what happens to him after he stops talking to Niko

I was paying attention alright, but I wanted a PS3, and I got a PS3, and the game. But because some cocks at Microsoft pulled some money out of Bill Gates' ass, and decided they would buy some exclusive DLC, I can't play it, and I won't be able to play it, because I can't afford to buy a 360 just for two DLC packs.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. DLC should never be exclusive to one console. The only things that should be exclusive are games that the console-makers make. They shouldn't give some money to a developer to deny owners of the game (and customers of the developers) the full experience, and developers shouldn't offer the console-makers a deal to f*ck their own customers over. The console war shouldn't be won by which company can buy the best DLC, but by the consoles themselves and the games made by the console-makers.

I totally agree with you that DLC shouldn't be exclusive to one console. Us XBOX 360 owners are going to get 2 DL episodes that you PS3 owners aren't going to and it isn't fair. It's silly and it only creates conflict between different console owners. It's only a matter of time before you PS3 owners get your own DLC and then we'll be missing out also. Nobody wins in the long run. Everybody misses out on something. Uness they own both consoles of course...

Thank you Microsoft suicidal.gif

I know they say that two wrongs don't make a right, and I obviously don't have anything against every platform getting every GTA for goodness' sake, but..

"When we'll see the two Stories on XBLA, then we can talk about the PS3 getting the DLCs", as some other forum member put it.

Apparently the HUD and menu screens have been changed to have a "distressed, almost rusty look".

Nothing major, but interesting nonetheless. Goes along with the grain filter and different lighting.

You PS3 fanboys are crybabies.

Consoles have had exclusives for years. You can't expect it to change with DLC.

Think of The Lost and Damned like a new game, but the game is only being released on the Xbox 360.

You don't hear us 360 owners crying over not being able to play MGS4, or Ratchet and Clank, or Resistance, or Infamous, or Killzone 2, or Uncharted, or God of War III.

You already have half the great games that make the 360 a console worth having, and have a good collection of exclusives.

Besides, it's your own dumbass fault for picking an overpriced console over a cheaper one that already had a formidable game library before the PS3 was even released. I think anyone could have seen that the 360 was going to be the dominating console this generation, just like your precious PS2 (which I owned instead of an Xbox or Gamecube) dominated the last generation.

It's not a battle of picking one company over the other. In the end, as a gamer, you need to pick the console that will have the better games and more high quality games instead. So stop wining and go play Resistance or wait for Killzone.

The clubhouse isn’t much to look at. If it wasn’t for the bikes parked out the front and the hint that somewhere within there could be a fire, you’d be hard-pressed to distinguish it from any other corner of Liberty City. Inside, however, it is rich in detail and filled with a mix of your Lost brothers, random leeching chicks, rock-heavy music and enough blow to line the Great Wall of China. Adventure, danger and tension are poured into the place like petrol into a Molotov cocktail. As a destination it offers a place to play pool, arm-wrestle, enjoy hi/lo cards and do other side-activities, but it is also a place to pick up weapons, find a bike and, of course, progress the story.

This is your main safe house, where you belong and fit in. And when you do go out on missions, you hunt in a pack. As Vice-President, your position is right behind the leader, and as you cruise down the streets and bridges of Liberty City as a posse, an icon glides across the ground in the position where you should be riding. Stay in the icon for a few seconds and you will receive a boost to your health.

There is certainly something undeniably cool about hunting the streets as part of a gang and its implementation in The Lost and Damned is far more cohesive and engaging than the like minded gameplay experience in San Andreas. And it goes without saying that it is a far different way of approaching the city than when you were Niko… the feeling is all the more powerful. So key is the sense of being one unit, that your brothers have stats that increase with each successful mission, facilitating the belief that you need to protect each other. If someone dies they will be replaced, but the noobie will not be the sharpest sword in the arsenal.

I love everything in these three paragraphs. The clubhouse is great cause you have a place to hang out with people who actually like you, pick up weapons, and meet some "special" people. The posse stat system isn't the best, but it's fair. Hunting in a group sounds the best to me, because you are never alone, you receive a health boost when in a certain position, and it gives me hope that there will be co op.
