Picolini
I'm almost certain a 295 will definitely out perform a 4970. Now a 4870x2... not sure about that.
anus
The GTX295 outperforms both the HD4870 and HD4870X2 by a good margin. GTX295>4870X2.

METAL666
GTX 295, 1st it's an NVIDIA, nothing against ATI/AMD, but nvidia seems to be ontop of the game scene more than ATI and most of the big titles are in "thwe way it's meant to be played" program, so the games come out more optimised for NVIDIA cards, always go for the best single processor card, because the x2 cards are a joke, they work 1/2 the time, alot of games dont have crossfire/sli support forcing you to use just 1 of cards resulting in subpar performance, wile the best single core card will get better performance, and similar performance to the x2 cards when sli/crossfire is enabled on them, although the single processor cards cost more, they are worth it because you know you will be using 100% of it's power, when runing an x2 card it's a 50/50% chance the game will run smooth, not to mention the micro stuttering. i say go for the best single core card for best performance. leik oh em jeez!
None of them are single core. You mean single GPU. And the GTX295 beats the 4870x2, so it will far out perform a 4870. (On a crossfire/SLI supported game of course.)
