Some questions and some fixing

This probably will be looked at but not answered to which is fine with me, so hear me out. Since buying GTAIV while on holidays, I got home and immediately installed the game, however what I was annoyed by was the amount of crashes or "fatal errors" that occured... in the startup screen.

Now I've fixed these by looking extensively around the web and now I can play the game but was then again annoyed when - with everything on low - I had to play on 800x600 - What the Hell? I can play Far Cry 2 or Crysis on High with barely any problems.

So please tell me Rockstar, in this hyped up new patch, will we be able to play GTAIV - even on low - with our 22" screens on full resolution? I read on some other forum here at gtaforums that this is about reflection or "quality" scaling. And can we have good FPS without having to make a commandline.txt and/or move some folders around i.e - the shader folders "trick"

Would be delighted to hear from anyone.

Sadly, there is no hyped up new patch. That's not to say there is not a patch either being worked on, or close to release and perhaps they won't announce it because the last patch was announced and then M$ was slow to approve it (at least, in our opinions slow - wont be slow this time when the patch is a surprise to all who get it wink.gif). We are all hyping a patch, because we believe in Rockstar, for the most part and as a majority, but it isn't confirmed, but there are topics where people show pretty valid (imo) pointers that there will be one very soon.

So, no, there won't be miracle patches, but before you go on about that, you must realize that you've not mentioned your stats or a particular problem you are having, which is a requirement for this section. Now, I'm not getting on your case - I've no place to, I am your peer - but perhaps we can help you to get a better performance with more information about your setup?

I can't speak for Far Cry 2 (looks great, gonna buy it when it's cheaper - won't give anyone but Rockstar full price ph34r.gif ) but you really can't compare crysis to GTA IV. GTA IV is nowhere near the same league. While crysis is a CPU worker, it is also more renowned for it's use of the GFX hardware. On the other hand, GTA only utilizes 38 percent of my HD3850, and the majority of all load is on my CPU - and certainly more load than that of a crytek game (again, can't speak for FC2 and from the hype I've seen, it's like "FPS GTA in Africa", but remember, there are not really blocks and blocks of peds, traffic, litter, countless lamp posts and other generic details. One can argue that a dumpster could be compared to a certain bush or a certain kind of rock in any given game, but it's just not worth comparing - nothing has done what GTA SA did yet [arguably, it depends the perspective and criteria] let alone GTA IV)

well said, chngdman! I think your spot on in probably everything you said. And yeah, I should've put my setup on here.

and as a side note, Rockstar does deserve full price haha.

Though also, I did find this about the patch (Not sure if it was the last one or this new one) - The Patch Info
