Mafioso86 Posted January 21, 2009 Share Posted January 21, 2009 yeah it's been basically known since the game came out, in the opening scene Niko starts speaking Serbian to Roman and Roman tells him that he should speak English. Niko then comments that he isn't great at English to which Roman replies, "Better than my Serbian." The whole thing with R* not really clearly saying his nationality other than being "Eastern European" was due to the crap they got from the Cuban, Haitian, and Italian Anti-Defamation groups after III and VC. They didn't want the same, "You're portraying [insert ethnic group] as being criminals and gangsters," crap that they got last time around. His name is actually Bellic (for this reason), which isn't a Serbian name - as you know Belič would be the correct spelling - but I'll certainly agree that it's pretty obvious he's meant to be Serbian. The lexicon is clearly more Serbian than Croatian, his mum's name, while used in Croatia is more common in Serbia, and is a Serbian name. Michael Hollick said the character is Serbian.
