Girish
n option for a first person view sounds fine to me. I'd probably never use it though; never been a huge fan of fps games. Besides, GTA has always been a third person action adventure game. That is how people have enjoyed it so far and that is how it is meant to be actually. A sandbox game like GTA needs you to have an entire view of your main character. Imagine if GTA IV had been a fps game. Would it be fun to not see Niko break open the locks of cars or jump into convertibles or push aside peds and insult them or climb ladders? These small things is what makes GTA what it is; more fun! Frankly speaking, I don't see much fun in GTA through the first person view. In a FPS I belive you can see the guy do all those things you mentioned in the eyeveiw. And with high detail. And climbing ladders would be incredibly realistic. Realistic? Please explain how. Climbing a ladder would then become as bland as just moving the mouse in the direction you want to go and all you see is the hands and ladder steps. Not quite what I expect from a Grand Theft Auto game. A third person view has a higher angle of vision than a first person view, although I admit that there is much less attention to detail in tps than in fps. But then, why do you need high detail in a GTA game where you're supposed to pay attention to your surroundings via a larger angle than like in fps games where you concentrate only on the enemies at hand? Moreover, fps is for games that require high precision (which is only required for shooting) which is not really that important an aspect in GTA. Mainland Marauder
The FPS viewpoint is also not as good for seeing things from behind or the sides, or something along the ground if it's near your feet. Some people had problems with it but I loved the ability in SA to rotate the camera all around you while you were moving, and not have to change directions. This is especially good when being chased. Exkabewbikadid
Like I've said before, I'd like to see a hybrid of 1st and 3rd person, as in the ability to toggle back and forth. The good thing about FPP is that it can get you closer to the action. For example, I'd like to see the character's elbow/foot break into a vehicle, get in the car and pull the door shut then put his hands on the wheel. Hand to hand combat would also be great fun in FPP, although this is an area in GTA that still remains rather weak. Whacking people with a bat would look amazing as well. Just about every action you can do would be given a new feel in FPP. TPP has a lot of advantages as well. Stealth missions (although lacking in IV for some god forsaken reason) benefit greatly in TPP as FPP might not create the feeling of sneaking around as well as TPP. The ability to rotate the camera around the character in TPP gives the player a better sense of the surroundings. And of course, being able to see the character wear a jacket with the letters LSD on the back is good for the laughs. Ultimately I think a hybrid would make for more interesting gameplay and even better replay value. Whoever does this first and does it well in an Action/driving sandbox title will probably set a new standard.
Rhoda
No, thanks. Would ruin the whole basis of Grand Theft Auto. Just to note, that was what was probably said regarding the leap from 2D to 3D. If GTA wasn't constantly evolving there'd be no drive to play the newer games. If you think, there's something new offered in every game released so far. And Xcom makes some very good points and ideas, such as highlighting a specific limb when said limb is key in the action, just as a car break-in or even a stealth kill (I think a mass killing spree in first-person would be just too much for a human brain to cope with). Gouveia
What about this. Pressing camera button on foot cycles through: Normal -> Shoulder -> FPS -> Top Down -> Far If you do it on car, it'll be: Normal -> A little farther -> Far -> Dashboard (TDU alike) -> Hood -> Bumper -> Top Down I think that's not only feasible, but also will please many fans, since they're divided in who wants the standard TPS view, the FPS view and the classic Top Down view. mrpain
I dont want a FPS GTA because it will ruin the reputation of a fine classic TPS. But i dont mind a mini game where it is a FPS in an Arcade
GammaRaptor
Would be awesome having a shoulder camera it would be sick.
Algonquin Assassin
An option would be fine, but a full FPS would kill it. IMO I like third person perspective, because you get a greater view of everything. Makes shootouts less frustrating. I always find with FPSs I tend to get more pissed off, because I usually die from getting shot by someone out of my line of sight. So yeah a FPS option would be ideal, but not make the entire game a FPS.

The Commander
We already seen what "DukeStar" did with his Duke Theft Auto mod for Duke Nukem, Just one thing to say Ultra Aussie, I go by the name of "The Commander" not DukeStar. And my mod isn't strictly first person only, the player has a choice of first person or third person, and that it's ment to emulate GTA 1 in a 3D perspective, not these newer GTA games as there would be no point in me making a mod based on them. But as I have read so far, first person isnt everyones cup of tea. Edited January 30, 2009 by The Commander

I wasn't trying to do this at all, infact I was going to ask Ultraaussie why he has posted this same thread on just about every GTA fourm there is. I don't really need to advertise this mod any how because it is ussaly on the front page of moddb ussally. EDIT: Plus you when it's done you don't need to buy it cos its free. Hart
I said this in another FPS GTA topic: The way the character moves would have to be completely changed. Imagine playing as Niko in first-person, would be vomit-inducing. He's always ducking when he changes direction and its not very precise in his movements. Also, Euphoria wouldnt work in FPS. Imagine getting hit by a car and your camera just flips about and you cant see sh*t. Would get annoying fast.

Imagine getting hit by a car and your camera just flips about and you cant see sh*t. Would get annoying fast. Wouldnt that be cool. I mean, the harder the game is the more you get out of it. And isnt it ovious people move their heads indepenently? And euphoria would work. Like in real life, you'd have to recover from getting hit by a car. A very very fair time space in a realistic GTA would be 3 seconds at least. If a car hit you in real life you'd probily wouldnt be able to get up and run around like that straight away. And it would be challenging. Or an alteritive would be it to shift to the 3rd person when that happens. Infact, we could have a Quantum of Solace style cover system!
