Can I be frank with you? They're not that scary. Ravenholm is real fun, by the way. And why the EP2 mines would be scary?

I think Doom III was a lot scarier than HL2. Anyone agree. I would purposley turn down the lights and turn up the volume and play that game in the middle of the night. How tense!

I only think that the dark underground in ep1 is the only scary.

the mine in ep2 can some people think is scary

EDIT: the first time when i was in ravenholm it scared the crap out of me. but now I don't get scared

Ravenholm is the creepiest. You hear the fast headcrab zombies howling in the distance, and a split second later you see a figure running across rooftops, and you turn around to see one flying through the air and speeding toward you. When I first played it, I was pissing my pants. I never experienced anything like it in a Half-life game. And then there is the poison headcrab zombies. It may not be the only place that had these creatures, but the first is always the most memorable.

Indeed, the game did seem creepier at night.

Ravenholm wins this competition but not because it's particularly scary, I don't remember anything scary about the other ones. There was one moment that freaked me out in Ravenholm, although it's mostly my fault. I don't like fast zombies when they're too close, so I remember one or two were dropping in real close and I ran inside a building and shut the door. Feeling pretty satisfied with myself I walked away unaware of the fact that there were windows on the roof of this building. So this noisy zombie crashes through the roof and attacks me from behind. Pretty unexpected.

I think it was in Episode 2, getting chased around the antlion nest. Christ, it wasn't the scary, but it was brutally tense. Especially since you never knew where the f*cker will be.

Other than that, yeah, Ravenholm, first time through, was f*cking creepy as all hell. Second time though, it's a total blast, full of gravity gun goodness.

tommy vs. claude

That one place in Nova Prosopect with the Poison Headcrab Carrying Zombie (You know that place). Anyways, when I entered that room I thought to myself "You know, I think there might be something in here," so when I turned around there it was about ready to attack me. cryani.gif I think that was the only time a video game made me jump.

The part where you're with the buggy cruising the coast, there's that bridge near-by and an old abandoned house. The house. Damn it to hell.

Ravenholm definitely creeped me out in a good way. The other two were just tense.

Goddamit woman, instead of staying there to help you, you send me to a zombie infested town that's also got a mentally handicapped preacher there and God knows what else. Thanks alot.

Ravenholm definately. The worst of it was those screaming and climbing things. Specially at the part where you climb that thing to get into the church or something, and it's a horde of them comming from all sides! The other two I'd say they were only intense.

This.

It wasn't as scary as Ravenholm in the definition of scary. But it was f*cking tense, it felt like an action movie sprinting and speeding through, diving in the holes just as it rams you're back. Watching it snarl at you're face, and gallop away waiting to ambush you further along the path.

Then again, I played Ravenholm so many times and done so much crap around that level playing with the zombies that my view may be abit deformed. I do remember the first time I played it, it was scary, but I cant remember to what degree. I was more scared of being scared than anything really. Lol.

Doom 3 used the sh*ttest techniques for scary you. It was scary, but it was ridiculously gay and repetitive. Sure a beast coming out of a dark place is scary, but when that's all it uses for the whole game to scare you it gets repetitive and near the end of the game it was like f*cking syllogism. Beasts comes out of Dark place. There's a dark place, so a beast is gonna come out of there. f*cking gay, I'd just point the muzzle of my shotgun that way and wait for it to come out, and it never dissapointed.

Edit: After having voted and seeing the results I'll just shoot in the dark by saying that alot of people who've played HL2 haven't played the sequels? And thus they felt obliged to say Ravenholm. No?

The scariest part in Half Life series for me was Ravenholm (map d1_town_01a, i think) right after you go through the electrical fence, when you first encounter the fast zombies. Their cries and grunts freaked me out as hell. Got used to it later thought.

Gordan's training in NIT obviously didn't give him common sense. "We don't go to Ravenholm", "I know... I'll go to Ravenholm! moto_whistle.gif "

I have only played the original, so Ravenholm is really the only one I have experiance with.

QFT.

After I saw Gman in the Red Barn, and when I entered a barrel (threw by a zombie) took almost all my health away, I always get scared when he appears. It's just... creepy.

Ravenholm on the computer scared the sh*t outta me, i walked so slowly around every corner, the PS3 varsion isn't as scary.

I think the overall atmosphere to Half-life 2 is scary, the emptyness and deserted feel of terror. Good sh*t.
