GTA IV: CELL PHONE ISSUES

Hey this is in regards to the PS3 version of GTA IV. I can't seem to get the cell phone to work as according to the manual, it says PUSH UP on the controller to allow for the phone to pop up, then PUSH UP again to allow for Niko to use the phone via keypad, but when I push up again nothing happens. I can't dial out any numbers. I just got the game and I haven't done any missions other then drive to the hide out. Is this problem with the phone caused cause I need to play a little more to become introduced to using the phone?

 

If not can someone help a brother out here?

you have to do the 1st mission ITS YOUR CALL after which you can start making calls

ahhhh alright I will do that. I'm stupid. I just got the game and only played multiplayer which is why I couldn't figure it out. Thanks!

you have the phone when u push up from the beginning of the game but roman doesnt officially give you the phone until during the 1st mission...after that its yours to use as much as you like

ahh ok I get it now. I should have just started playing the missions while I had the chance. I was more excited about the multiplayer feature as I work with someone who mentioned it to me and i've been doing that since I got it. I will be playing it now to get the phone to work properly. Thanks again, I was getting somewhat frustrated.
