RobMachado
Ok so after using ntune and seeing how crappy it is I decided to go back to my normal factory settings. Today I came accros the AMD Overdrive utility and it looks pretty cool. It also provides the auto clocking option same as ntune. My question is, has anyone here used this utility before? and how stable is it ? I´m asking because i need to OC my Cpu in order to play GTAIV better. Thanks. okei
I can't use it because I've got a retarded motherboard. Who the hell manufactures a motherboard with an nForce chipset and an AMD socket? ASucks.
Picolini
It's your processor holding you back in GTA IV, not your GPU. Does Catalyst even work on non-ATI cards? Your sig says you have a 98000GTX+, so I don't think you can use Overdrive since it's not an ATI card. Just yesterday I tried it for the first time, bumping my HD4850 up to 625Mhz from 500Mhz stock. I then ran a 3dMark06 test and I got virtually no difference. So it seems like a waste to me. Of course I didn't toy with the memory clock at all, so it could possibly help upping both. I'd say make a starting point benchmark then run it again after making changes, if you do it. That way you can see any changes in numbers.

In want to Oc my CPU!!! thats the critical part of the puzzle in all of this. So, my mobo is an nforce 560 M2N-SLI, with an AMD CPU and an Nvidia GPU. I dont see any reason why AMD Overdrive won´t work. After all, ntune worked fine with my current setup. Im trying something else becuase ntune caused my system to crash several times when i loaded the profile. Thanks.
RobMachado
Also after removing the ntune profile and returning to stock settings I checked nmonitor and noticed that my CPU voltage is at 1.55V which i think its kinda high. Also my system temp is @ 42C and CPU @ 40C. Is all of this normal??????? Thanks.
Fozzy Fozborne
According to the AMD website, you have to have an AMD 770/790X/790FX chipset to use AMD Overdrive. You have an NVidia (560) chipset, which means you can't use AMD O.D. Have you tried OCing with your BIOS? Also, are you using a plain old 5000 x2 or a Black Edition? If it's a black, you can simply increase the multiplier to OC your CPU, if not you have to raise your reference clock. I know from experience that the 570 SLI chipset is absolutely pathetic at overclocking (anything more than 2.4Ghz out of my old 4200 x2 [2.2 ghz stock] caused crashes. In a comparable 590 SLI, the same chip would do 2.7 easily. I'm not sure if the 560 is the same way or not, just something to consider. Also, consider the fact that Phenom prices have tumbled recently, mainly due to the fact that Intel is dominating at the moment and the release of the Phenom II's. Also remember that GTA IV really wasn't designed with dual cores in mind. A 9950 phenom quad core is available from $160 or a new Phenom II is available from $195. If you're serious about getting GTA to run at more than low, then these are your best options.

Usually my video card goes up to 80 degrees C while playing crysis

Shof
I have AMD Overdrive, but i dont want to use it for OCing my CPU; dont want to have the risk of voiding my warranty the main purpose of amd overdrive is to perform safer overclocking to prevent the nasty past of overclocking ruining hardware. As long as you have decent cooling and use the suggested clocking overdrive is telling you to use, then there should be no problem
leik oh em jeez!
I've used ATI overdrive, assuming it's about the same thing, but for CPU instead of GPU. It worked pretty well for me, but I did get some artifacts when I clocked it too high. Speaking of which, my biggest problem moving to NVIDIA was using the NVIDIA Control Panel, I liked ATI's Catalyst Control Center much better. That is a bit off topic, isn't it? I need to stop doing this, or I'll end up like slamman.
