Only 40,000 "GTA IV -PC" games were sold in the US

Part of me does wonder wether it's because most people already own it on console, but then I remember that 5 million is still small for what I would have expected it to do in the US. There are squillions like me waiting to buy the game and only the absence of a well-publicised 'title update' is preventing us. Even an official announcement would be all it takes to get me to buy it; I'm not very strong-willed.

Get rid of the sig. You said you WOULD buy it. If you dont even have it how can you complain?

Sorry I'm not to blame if you consistently failed to read the repeated times in the month since I joined, in a considerable number of threads, that I have stated I do not own the game and that the sig reflects my sentiment, not my intention. I've explained in detail why I'm here criticising the state of things and have no interest in repeating it ad infinitum.

If you're going to pick an arguement with someone, make sure you know what their position is first otherwise if it is similiar to your own you could be arguing with yourself without knowing it.

Oh.....excuse me how dare I miss your posts. Oh I remember .....your not that interesting.

Yes boss, from now on I will search your history before each post.

If your sig meant what it says, we wouldnt have to read all your posts to find your brilliant explanation.

Wasnt starting nothing just made a point. You flash this bigass sig (that aparently does not show your true sentiments) and expect everybody to know your entire history. smile.gif

After all they have the engine working on the PC now

They do? Since when?

I have installed GTA 4 on BOTH my PC's here. I have a crappy Core2Duo @ 2.4ghz, 2gbs ram and a sh*tty 8600gt and a Quad @ 2.4ghz, 3gbs ram and a sh*tty 8800gts and guess what ? Yep that's right the game WORKS fine on both with APPROPRIATE settings. I have not done any tweaking or followed any of these damn useless "performance" tweaks. I just installed the game and used the DEFAULT settings and the game WORKS.

So yeah I would say they have the engine working on the PC and I would also like to suggest you take your blatant trolling elsewhere.

Well it may 'work' charlie but i would love to know your fps on the coreduo without tweaks, because 10-15 for most people isnt cool. No doubt you will comeback and tell me its 30+ but seriously, your doing some trolling of your own.

I must be a troll too, Charlie.  I have the below system, and no matter what settings I put the game on, I get no better than 40fps average.  Ironically, Crysis runs better on and smoother on Very High/DX10.  The engine "doesn't work" if you give a damn about performance.

Shock horror 40fps my god you are hard done by aren't you. Really it is a crime against humanity that you run a game at 40fps. Do get back to me when Crysis runs wonderfully with dozens of pedestrians and cars on the road won't you, instead of pretty leaves on the trees. Oh and whilst you are at it please tell me how I am trolling ? I am a PC GTA fan on a GTA FAN FORUM in the PC SECTION talking favourably about GTA 4.

I get between 20 - 25fps on default settings at a res of 1024 x 768 it isn't brilliant but the game is perfectly playable at those framerates. I am happy with the performance because I know the 8600gt is a sh*t card compared to the consoles. Why would I expect a PC with a WORSE gpu than the consoles to perform better than the consoles ?

Oh and again how am I trolling ? I am a fan of the GTA franchise on the PC. I am loving GTA 4 on the PC and I come to the PC Section of a GTA fansite to discuss how much I enjoy GTA 4. I think it's you that is doing the trolling since you have yet to say one single damn positive thing about the game. Yet I am quite happy to discuss some of the problems the game has you totally refuse to accept anything good about the game whatsoever.

If PC had no problems, and was released the exact same day as console versions, we'd have owned the market.

Today i had the first "out of video memory" error - CTD after 75 hours of gameplay ! biggrin.gif

I was running at the same time all maxed GFX settings + "no bloom tweak" + "farclp tweaked to 3500" + "motion blur tweak", after 40 minutes playing i crashed.

Game was looking amazing, but suddenly ... epic fail ... turn.gif

MS doesn't care about GTA on the PC except they want to keep it off the PC as long as possible.

Look if you are going to say stuff like this at least back it up with SOME PROOF.

Et tu, Brutus? dontgetit.gif

You need me to provide proof that MS doesn't give a flying f*ck about PC gaming ??????? The fact they keep titles off the PC isn't enough proof ? The fact they pour billions into the Xbox gaming scene and sod all into the PC gaming scene isn't proof ? The fact that they closed Ensemble an incredibly successful PC development house responsible for the Age of Empires series isn't proof ? The fact they are keeping the lost and damned DLC off the PC isn't proof enough ?

Ok how about we get it straight from the horses mouth shall we. Lets have a look at a few snippets from Peter Zetterberg head honcho at Microsoft Games Studios :-

If we launch a game that is on 360 and PC simultaneously, we basically shoot ourselves in the foot by allowing the German market to choose to play the PC version – because they are more likely to buy that than spend their money on the Xbox 360

If we launched a Halo game on PC and 360 in Germany simultaneously, 80 per cent of sales would be on the PC. So we need to pick and choose our formats.

The PC has a much wider use, it's so established, it's so dominating already so in some territories we need to make the games for the 360 to increase the sales there.

So maybe in their eyes the PC is not as exciting as getting a dev kit for the Xbox 360 and getting a licence from Microsoft. And that's why we see more titles pitched at more platforms rather than PC only.

source

Now call me picky but does that sound like a guy working for an organisation that "cares" about PC gaming ? It sounds to me as if they are quite happy to sacrifice PC gaming in order to prop up their failing sh*tbox personally. But hey you want to show me proof that MS has nothing but love for PC gaming then feel free to show me YOUR proof.

Or you could just be quiet until you have something nice to say rather than trying to deliberately pick a fight? Or you could ask questions of clarification on what I think and believe rather than dictating me what I think and believe? It's the strange ability to put yourself in someone else's position and consider their point of view. I think aliens visited some centuries ago and gave us the power, because it's obviously spooky.

That was never the question. You have postulated that "MS doesn't give a flying f*ck about PC gaming". I disagree with that sentiment. I will concede that the 360 people (devs, marketing, investors, etc) obviously want it to succeed. But consider this:

"There is a huge installed base of customers (over 400 million) using Windows XP...

Source: http://www.itworld.com/060118xpsp3

Microsoft proclaimed Monday evening that Xbox 360 has sold 28 million units worldwide through 2008 since its launch in November 2005.

Source: http://www.edge-online.com/news/ms-360-lif...e-sales-hit-28m

Conclusion - Windows (and its subsequent upgrade Vista) has more penetration than the Xbox. WAY more. Did you know that GFWL was made free mid 2008? Wanna guess why? So they could take advantage of THAT market too. I just don't see this as not giving a "flying f*ck" about PC gaming. If they wanted PC gaming to fail, they'd stop selling XP/Vista/DX dev kits to production houses entirely, and just wall it off completely.

Perhaps MS Game Studios is backing off PC development, and could be heading to 360 only titles, but to suggest that MS as a whole doesn't care is a little much to swallow.

I'm actually not against democracy though. I'm against things I think are f*cking stupid. I think this is f*cking stupid. - Sweets

Proof that there are more pirates than legits in the world.

Also, Many people choose to pirate games to avoid the risk of buying a game that doesn't work on their computer, and of coarse if you try to return the game after seeing your system can't run it on a decent frame rate you are f*cked because of the "opened case - no return policy" so you are forced to spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade your system, or throw the game out.

What?

Those sales are store sales, not online or downloading sales.

Almost four times the sales.

Also, that was the first torrent that came up. Who knows how many other downloads there were?

Also, you have to factor in the number of people that uninstalled it after they saw that the game was a sh*t port. Then factor in the number of people that actually both the game after they downloaded it. Then we might get a real number.

I'd be inclined to agree.

There are too many companies (Nvidia, Ati, Creative, Asus etc etc) making lots of money from selling the latest PC gaming hardware for them to allow MS to kill it.

If MS did try to then..........

Linux and openGL anyone?

Well it can be pirated, thats a good thing about the game. GTA4 has all the elements of bad software. It is unreliable, has a clumsy user interface, makes completely unreasonable demands of the user and system, is ill-concieved and atrociously implemented. I could (and should) go on and on about its utter garbage but you know it is. We are happy for you to keep up the charade.

If they sold 40,000 copies at $60.00 each they made $2,400,000.00 on it..

And did they spend $20,000.00 or $200,000.00 on the cd key authentication system?

Either way not a bad profit still for each individual. Not sure what other expenses that they had cost or how many people earned money from this.

If they stop making GTA for PC sure, they'll probably see a bump in console purchases (from people wanting to buy consoles just to play the game and stuff....aka, "pc people porting to console")

But they will see less overall I think. For instance I won't buy a console. And I'm sure 39,000 other people besides me will not all be buying consoles either.

Well, in all cases it´s a sad situation.

Not many of us - including myself - praised the game, because of all the problems we´ve encountered.

That´s bound to have it´s serious effect on sales cause of the rumors, and of course it won´t catch up on sales once GTA4 is patched, as lot´s of buyers have moved on.

Just bought a strong ATI 4870 card and gained only +7 fps, but now I finally can start playing the game at 19-20 fps, and it is AN ENCREDIBLE game - absolutely FANTASTIC!

But the damage has been done - and the thought on this being the last GTA4 game, because of being released too early and thus loosing sales, is pretty depressing.

The actual profit would be around 50 cent's on the dollar. After everybody has had their share.

Also, estimating pirated number of copies would be next to impossible. You never know how many trackers there were. What about various other uploads all over the web? What about sharing that went among people face to face?

Let's just round up the reasons why GTA didn't sell better

* piracy and the fact some people are just being cheap

* unstable port (to say the lest)

* 8 months worth of delays

* not that good GTA game (at least for me)

* lack of practically any market and media attention (that is if we exclude a few of those false/low detail previews)

Guess which reason will be all time favorite number one among R* and their supporters? Anyone?

Besides, most of the people with issues with GTA IV are Pirates, and I assume anyone who pirated it before buying it can confirm this. Rockstar did more than the drunken cam, put it that way.

Not signed into RGSC + Offline GFWL Profile = lower FPS. This was the case for me anyways. (Yes I pirate then buy, especally for those games I can't return if they're crap/don't work on my machine!)

I can confirm that. I pirated it too but after I bought it and only because people began to complain and I was afraid that I spent money for nothing.

Problems with internet in the game, non-working cracks, lower FPS etc. License version - the only way to play this game.

Bollocks, people. I use a third party loader and it works even better then the original version, if nothing it loads faster. As I can safely remove securom and don't have that asshole crash my game (it did it a number of times while I was starting the game) and also I can keep the original DVD stored safely in it's box. In combination with xliveless the game runs with zero additional clutter in the background.

OK, I never actually tried with the pirated copy (downloaded ISO's), but I don't think that it's any different then the retail version.

The game, which used to take 30 seconds to a minute to get going now takes one second. No more RGSC or Windows Live crap. Luv ya, Fedor inlove.gif
