Looks like we won't see another GTA PC version!! sad.gif

I can guarantee with my soul that we will see all GTAs before GTA V(next gen, I mean) appears.

That means we will see 2 another GTAs before its fate on PC is unknown.

Why?

Porting a whole engine (RAGE) for just one game just isn't worth it. Besides, even the Social Club has some info that it is for "grand theft auto iv pc and future releases".

Before of release of GTA IV on pc , rockstar said that IV will be last PC GTA.

And they said there won't be GTA IV for PC.

Oh, and GTA III too.

Oh, and Vice City!

Oh, and San Andreas!

Besides you're like the 5th person to tell me this, and none of these five ever gave a source for this information. dozingoff.gif

GTA IV was released on PC only because rockstar have a deal with microsoft - microsoft gave them money and added GTA 4 to "games for windows" game types.

ROFL Microsoft couldn't give a flying f*ck if the PC got GTA 4 or not. All of MS's efforts have been into securing GTA for the XBOX CONSOLE. They spent $50 million dollars to ensure the XBOX CONSOLE got exclusive content. Now to finally blow your theory out of the water guess what the PC isn't getting .... oh that's right the exclusive XBOX content. MS doesn't care about GTA on the PC except they want to keep it off the PC as long as possible.

Look if you are going to say stuff like this at least back it up with SOME PROOF.

Just read here.

5.18 million sales of the consoles and only 40,000 sales for PC (which is cheaper then a console version).

That is just 0.76% of all the sales and even less percentage of money.

Looks like we won't see another GTA PC version!! sad.gif

Sigh, are these the same idiots that said Crysis only sold 87,000 but it sold 1 million in one month? Europe is a huge PC market and digital distribution is not counted. Who cares.

I dislike Piracy but a little thing inside me would like to see it get blown over entirely to the consoles so we PCers can get back what we once owned.

That is wrong I know.....kinda makes me a hypocrite.

Ok I dont mean it but......we have lost a lot.

GTA IV was pirated more on Xbox 360 than PC, and thats on the initial 5 days before release torrent stats!! (Yeah it leaked)

You'd be amazed at how quick and easy it is to unlock a Xbox 360... (Assuming you have a VIA SATA Controller)

Besides, most of the people with issues with GTA IV are Pirates, and I assume anyone who pirated it before buying it can confirm this. Rockstar did more than the drunken cam, put it that way.

Not signed into RGSC + Offline GFWL Profile = lower FPS. This was the case for me anyways. (Yes I pirate then buy, especally for those games I can't return if they're crap/don't work on my machine!)

LOL, any facts to back up this BS? Post proof or shut up.

Is anybody really surprised that sales tanked after the lazy port, terrible reports from users, and lack of support/communication from Rockstar?

If there is a next release, and they handle it better, i'm sure the number of sales would be higher

Install Fraps, watch your average framerate, exit GTA IV, install XLiveless (Make sure you dont start RGSC), move Savegame, fire up GTA IV and then look at your framerate.

Of course if your one of the people who stupidly use commandline.txt to cause memory leaks via using more VRAM than is avialable on your card then it'll make no difference after a few minutes.

Sales figures for PC games do not include digital distribution (Steam, D2D). These methods are getting very popular and likely sell more than boxed copies. I'm not sure what the DRM situation is on Steam/D2D versions but that could have an effect on box sales too.

Sins of a Solar Empire had excellent sales in 2008 and was very upfront about the fact that they included no copy protection, DRM or anything of the sort in their game. Press releases were issued to point this out by the CEO. He feels, and has the experience and knowledge to back it up, that if a game is good and in demand - the impact of piracy is negligible. I only wish R* and other game design houses/publishers would figure that out. SoaSE is a perfect example of how misguided the DRM philosophy really is.

Wake up R*. The more you punish legitimate users with more layers of DRM and SC/GFWL the more likely you are going to alienate them. Good way to turn honest buyers into pirates, IMO.

are u the product of Fetal Alcohol syndrome? WTF does that have to do with an idiot saying 360 was pirated as mucha s PC? Pc piracy dwarfs console, fact. Pklus, consoles still sell way more so PC does not have the user base to weather mass piracy. Learn some comprehension ans stop banging your sister.

Also, Pirated and retail copies all suffer from bad performance, that`s a stupid statment, even review sites mention the poor performance, a shoddy port is a shoddy port.

I bought the game in the middle of December and the guy in the store didn't even know the PC version existed, they tried to talk me into console version before I walked to PC section and saw they had about 20 copies.

My bad, assumed you where refering to the last part of my post.

Well 360 Version leaking 5 days before release is fact, I noticed it on usenet back then. As for how many times its been pirated...

Well I can only go by what I saw when it was released 9-10 months ago, torrent sites where alive with 100's of copys with 10's of thousand leechers per torrent. (Just like the average PC game)

Most of the torrens are dead now so what do you expect me to do to prove it?

Edit: Very old news article, before the game was even in shops proves that you'd easily find a Online Match on Pirate version: http://www.planetxbox360.com/article_3811/

Edit2:

It's just a few thousand torrents.

I can confirm that. I pirated it too but after I bought it and only because people began to complain and I was afraid that I spent money for nothing.

Problems with internet in the game, non-working cracks, lower FPS etc. License version - the only way to play this game.

After all they have the engine working on the PC now

They do? Since when?

I have installed GTA 4 on BOTH my PC's here. I have a crappy Core2Duo @ 2.4ghz, 2gbs ram and a sh*tty 8600gt and a Quad @ 2.4ghz, 3gbs ram and a sh*tty 8800gts and guess what ? Yep that's right the game WORKS fine on both with APPROPRIATE settings. I have not done any tweaking or followed any of these damn useless "performance" tweaks. I just installed the game and used the DEFAULT settings and the game WORKS.

So yeah I would say they have the engine working on the PC and I would also like to suggest you take your blatant trolling elsewhere.

stop this FUD. it makes u sound like an idiot.

Played both versions. In a license version on my PC FPS was increased from 19-20 to 24-25. Don't know about you.

2 All: If your performance is sh*t, then set all on medium and your game won't be sh*t anymore. Besides this you'll still have nicer picture than on X360.

I bought gta 4 for my bro's xbox360 when it first came out, it was a waste of money, think I played it for about 5mins. The pc version is 100 times better imo.

Uhm, yes it does.

Especially when you are claiming that it is not a money maker. Success is relative and even somewhat subjective. Since you obviously must have insider information to make a claim like that then please let the rest of us know how much money they've lost on this game for PC...

Well, I assume they used a new engine to make GTA IV, which differs from Vice City and San Andreas if you already played those games. This new engine worked out greatly for the game play, but (like always, nothing is perfect!), there were problems with the performance and probably graphics also. A patch for PS3 and X-Box versions was released in June 2008 fixing some issues pointed out by many GTA IV for consoles owners. I guess they had fixed those issues and started to work on the GTA IV for the PC.

They released the PC version based on a new engine used in the console versions of GTA IV, I guess that the conversion brought lots of problems with performance than they expected. Due to the lack of beta testing, which I think the reason of this whole fiasco, the game did not impress the gamers who longed to get their hands on the PC version of this great game (speaking generally about the game as whole), so the copies of GTA IV for PC were refunded because they were unhappy about the performance. First the sales were high, but due to lack of interest of a buggy game, the sales rapidly decreased. So, no wonder that the sales for the PC version were far more lower than for the consoles. Once the game is fixed by the new patch that is supposedly appear next month (1.0.2.0, I guess there is a thread speaks about it here in the forum) will fix this mess. If the patch works like a miracle, lots of gamers will be satisfied, which will make lots of ppl have big smiles upon their faces tounge.gif and others swearing (about time you released the patch you !%@&%*#^#*?%) and the sales goes high.

Numbers never lies, I think R* learned it in the hardway (low sales results for GTA IV for PC).

I must be a troll too, Charlie. I have the below system, and no matter what settings I put the game on, I get no better than 40fps average. Ironically, Crysis runs better on and smoother on Very High/DX10. The engine "doesn't work" if you give a damn about performance.

main reason: pc hardware required..

2nd: torrents

turn.gif

Not entirely-accurate.

Let me paint a picture here...

The 5 Rockstar Movements

FIRST: Rockstar: "GTA IV is coming EXCLUSIVELY to the XBox 360 and the PS3"

SECOND: Rockstar proceeds to spend-up big on advertising the console versions.

THIRD: GTA IV is released on console, and millions upon millions flock to stores to buy it.

FOURTH: Rockstar then waits a few months, while remaining dead-silent and evasive in regards to a possible PC version. The sales continue to climb as people, even those who are actually serious PC gamers, are forced to buy a console in order to play what was once a PC title.

FIFTH: Once Rockstar has their 1000% profit on the game, they decide to announce that they will release a (poorly-done) port on PC...non-publicized, and hitting store shelves 7 months after the console versions.

------------------------------------------------------------

So, why do we think it sold like dog-turds? It's simple, because it's already out their. Most people aren't going to buy something that they already own. Rockstar knows this, and that is why they do it this way. Despite it destroying the potential for the GTA series, and their respect from long-time fans, it does allow them to maintain their inflated ego when it comes to them defending their choice to suck Sony and Microsoft's penises. The game would sell 10x the numbers on PC if it was released at the same time as it is on consoles, but Rockstar don't want people to know this...as it might jeopardize Sony/Microsoft's erection during 3-way intercourse.
