rmmstnr
NOTE: I did search and found surprisingly little (nothing) for this, so I took it upon myself to be helpful. If such a thread already exists, please post a link before getting rid of this one. I thought there was such a thread, but I have yet to find it. As you have probably gleaned from the title, this is a thread for all your PSP problems and solutions in one spot. One that will hopefully be jam-packed with helpful links for both info. and downloads. My problem: One day while running some good ol' fashioned homebrew games, I couldn't exit the game, so I eventually turned off the PSP. Now I cannot load UMDs. I've searched the wonderful inter-web, but only found ineffective soutions (for my problem anyway), such as: Cleaning the laser lens (very carefully) Upgrading Firmware (went from 2.00 to 2.80, at 99% PSP said update failed but system info. says 2.80) Violently shaking the PSP (haven't tried ) Any other solutions? I'd upgrade to custom firmware, but I need to get a bigger memory stick first, and I don't presently have $80 to trade in my PSP to Sony for a new one Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/393382-psp-problems/ Share on other sites

I love custom firmware! And to try and help you somehow: I've turned off the psp while being unable to quit many times and it still worked alright. Have you dropped it or something? GTASIX
maybe coincidence that you were running homebrew and the umd drive broke at the same time? Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/393382-psp-problems/#findComment-1058900755 Share on other sites
Pat
Any other solutions?Don't download custom firmware for your PSP anymore. it's plain fail and hurt the poor PSP. Comparing PSPs with and without custom firmware is like comparing a PS2 and a PS3. In all honesty, I doubt I would keep my PSP if I didn't have custom firmware on it. All I ever do with it anymore is play the freeware SNES emulator. I honestly wasn't even aware they were still releasing new games for it, let alone firmware. Oh yeah, last time I checked, it had 3.03 OE C. I'm sure by now that firmware is incredibly outdated. rmmstnr
My PSP exploded, is that normal? Suddenly my problems don't seem quite so bad... As for your problem, can you tell us what are your settings from the recovery menu? Do you have any plugins enabled/disabled? Or anything? I don't have custom firmware yet, need bigger memory stick (can't fit both the 1.5 stuff and the other stuff at the same time). it's plain fail and hurt the poor PSP Your hip new-age lingo confuses me. I shall strive for my custom firmware, and hope for the best! I'd much rather have both the conveniences of modern firmware with my homebrew than stay in the dark ages while playing my stone-age Sega and Gameboy homebrew. Pat
CSO/ISO, as in pirated, as in illegal, as in those can't be discussed too much into detail here. Emulators are programs that act as though your PSP is a different system. For example, the SNES emulator I have lets my PSP play SNES games. Pandora's Battery and Magic Memory Stick can downgrade any firmware. You just need to make those first with the right programs to download. The PSP 3000 series can't be hacked yet however. Only the 1000 and 2000 series. If you don't know what the 1000 and 2000 series is, check the bar code at the bottom of the PSP and look at the last 4 digits. You just need to install some files and put them into the memory card. You will need to have a pare battery though since you would no longer be able to use the actual pandora battery that you made. Or you could just buy it online. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/393382-psp-problems/#findComment-1058903942 Share on other sites

rmmstnr
So, nothing new for me? I guess I'll just see what custom firmware will do once I finally get that memory stick. If worst comes to wost I could see if Gamestop's "refurbishment center" (I'm guessing a back-room in the store) could help out for cheap. What does it mean when at 99% of loading new firmware, the PSP says "load failed", but has the new f-ware listed in system info? Might I have somehow corrupted a system file by shutting down the PSP with homebrew running? UPDATE I saw some posts about moving the lens side to side fixing this problem, so I tried, to no avail. After finding no more "solutions" on the fantabulous inter-web, I decided to downgrade to 1.50 if possible. I just downgraded my PSP to to 1.5, which did not help. Or so it seemed. The game would not load (over and over I tried) so I figured I could live with just Homebrew. Tried installing homebrew, and now it's able to load every UMD I own! Needless to say I am positively conflusterated and quite wary of what to do. I'll try to get back to where I was before-hand, then continue to the latest custom firmware once I get that mem stick (sometime this century). I'll update my progress later. UPDATE Apparently my PSP only continues to live to piss me off. Upgraded to 2.60, worked for a bit, never actually started a UMD, now it can't read them anymore.
