Even with the lower deck secure, there was still Snakehead. But I knew there were stairs on the way there and Da Nang Boys would be waiting. So I got a Maverick from the Bayside Marina, let one of the Da Nang Boys damage it until the sound changed, parked it on top of the ship's bridge and finished it off with my fists.

One explosion later and I'm finally done!

I just wish I had better screenshots  whatsthat.gif

inlove.gif Absolutely legendary. Looks like that's what I'll have to do.

For the record...you cannot simply take out the arms dealer in "Gray Imports" by going around the back. There is a closed door leading out of the office, and the only way it opens is once you enter the office to chase the guy out. This is one of those little things I'm still learning about the game four years later, just by taking different approaches to missions. I did enter around back after going into the corona to put the mission in motion. Inside, not so bad. I've got the 9mm to Hitman so that's what I used. I grabbed the armor inside the warehouse (not the one in the office because it is a normal armor spawn and thus is off limits per the challenge) and barely survived as I focused on pumping Micro-Uzi ammo into the arms dealer. Mission passed.

It's still odd seeing everyone disappear once the dealer is dead catspider.gif

Anyway, I now have 20-something Molotovs at my disposal left over from "Burning Desire," which required no alternate strategy to speak of. The Molotovs are required for the mission, as is the fire extinguisher.

Some notes.

Grey Imports

What I did, the marker opposite the compound makes any car fireproof and explosion proof. So I took that car and rammed all the gas barrels in the area, killing everyone on the outside. Then, I made my way through the boxes, killing people at first but then just mad-dashing. When you get to the dealer, run in front of him, sprint past his guards, and get in his car. He'll be stranded without a ride, at which point you can ram him down.

Badlands

Did you guys know that when the witness reaches the bottom of the mountain, he ditches his car and runs away on foot? I could've easily rammed him down there, but I didn't need to, since he flew off the mountain at one of the hairpin bends and his car crashed as a result.

The Da Nang Thang

I'm not up to there yet, but when I am I think I'll just replicate this strategy that I used for another challenge.

Yeah, I didn't finish it up there, his car crashed but he escaped, running wildly like a fool near the Angel Pine chop/construction site/whatever that is. I just plowed into him with my Sanchez to kill him.

Well isn't that convenient, figuring that you have to go back to Angel Pine after wasting the guy and taking the picture.

I don't rightly recall - after "The Green Sabre" you lose everything as everyone knows, but when do you get a weapon again? I never paid it much thought, considering you don't lose your money and normally the first thing I do in Angel Pine is go to Ammu-Nation and get heated again.

Yeah, so taking the picture was no problem once I killed the guy.

The next time you get a weapon would be at one of the Catalina missions, I presume. If you pick Against All Odds to do first, you get Satchels. If you pick Small Town Bank to do first, you get shotgun shells.

How about this challenge: Kill a soldier on 6 stars with your bare fists (no combos and gym moves. only the LMB punches).

I like it! And I'm sure it will make for quite a difficult challenge. I'll go ahead and add it into the table. Cheers, mate. icon14.gif

It's great to see this provocotive discussion taking place, and it's almost as if you're all in a 'Rat race' to get the challenge completed. Good luck to all who are giving the Storyline challenges a go.

Bad news for the mission Interdiction. The rocket launcher with 40 rockets is an optional pick-up. I thought I was screwed since I did Woozie's missions last and all I had was a knife from The Da Nang Thang. For Yay Kaboom Boom I had to bring an extra car into the crack compound and stash it nearby to run people over for the second part.

For Interdiction I had to use a Seasparrow, but it wasn't easy since they have AK's.

EDIT:

Toreno's Missions didn't need any ammo, but in Freefall we are allowed to get the parachute, right? It's not really a weapon....

For Black Project I finally got some weapons: 70 silenced pistol rounds and 35 sniper rifle shots. I tried to use stealth for a while outside the compound, but in the end I ended up making a mad dash to the vents to get inside. Once inside I was able to take care of most of the guards by knifing them. If they were to see me I'd just run to safety and sneak around a corner. They'd investigate and while walking back I'd knife them. One guard almost killed me in a corner, but fortunately I was able to get the silenced pistol out in time. There were plenty of health and armor pick-ups to save me.

When going down the stairs I was surprised at the range on the silenced pistol. All I had to do was take it slow going down the stairs and administer headshots to the guards. Since I had disabled the SAM sites, the rest was cheesecake. The mission even gives you 200 micro smg rounds when you get the jetpack.

For Green Goo I was surprised at the micro SMG ammo they supplied. 2000 rounds. I might be set for the rest of the game now!

Looks like your having fun with the challenge. I haven't really been spending much time on the challenge, so I plan to spend alot more time doing it thenI do doing anything else. I'm gonna see if I can catch up. So far, i've only done Sweet's missions and Ryder's Missions and a baseball bat and a spray can. I think I get a micro SMG for OG Loc and more ammo for Just Buisness. No problem if I run out of ammo, I can easily kill the Vagos in Running Dog with a spray can. So yeah, it's gonna pretty easy to get to C.R.A.S.H missions, (but from what i've read it sounds like House party is going to be a pain.) Anyone, better get started!

EDIT: Got some Micro SMG bullets from OG Loc but since I had to fire a few at the vagos at the end, most of my bullets have been wasted. I only have 1-50 bullets. I think this will last for Running Dog. (Infact, I probably won't even use it. I can easily kill him with my bat or my spray can.) When I do a difficult mission or get any more guns/ammo, i'll let you know. smile.gif I will try to get as many pics as possible.

EDIT 2: My GTA SA has crashed and I didn't save after OG Loc. So I gotta do OG Loc all over again. (I might stop editing now until something interesting actually happens.)

It is impossible to pass the mission without it. Therefore it is required.

Wouldn't you still have some rockets left from "Are You Going To San Fierro?"

No, it's limited. Although, there is another rocket launcher spawning on the hill. If I'm not wrong, it gives you another 20 rounds.

The Da Nang Thang comes before Interdiction so there's no way to save any rockets from previous missions. The only other possibility might be if you get minigun ammo from Air Raid....

I reeeeeally wanted to pick up the rockets in Interdiction but the mission didn't force me to take them so that would be against the challenge. My Seasparrow was pretty shot up at the end of the mission, but I learned that it takes a while for the contraband package to reach it's destination. I caught up to it and it was still parachuting down.

I also learned that if you don't kill the snake farmers in Don Peyote that you'll have a melee brawl, 4 on 3 outside Caligulas (even if you use a helicopter to get Maccer and Paul there, they still catch up). It made me lol because Maccer said "I'm gonna grab me some huge tits" or something like that before the fight.

I'm learning all kinds of new stuff from this challenge.

That's right. I was thinking of Outrider and got the two confused. blush.gif

Just got in from work - might pick this up again. Next up for me is "Doberman." Starting to wrap up the first Los Santos missions, then things should get very interesting to say the least.

It doesn't have to be a new game. And by only LMB punches, he meant that you cannot use any of the combo moves that you learn in the gyms (for eg. RMB+Enter, running attack, etc.). You have to kill the soldier by just punching him the normal way.

Well, i've been attempting the challenge "Complete Hippy Shopper from a new game" with little success.

It has, however, been fun finding different techniques on arriving at the Hippy Shopper.

I seem to keep on screwing it up with my NRG or any car that i use, so i began to think outside the square.

I gathered armour and some weapons in LS before setting off in a Jetmax i hijacked in the LS inlet. I went all the way around to the Western beaches of SF, without any wanted stars, lined myself up, and accelerated right at the beach. I flew 3 quarters of the way down the street to the Hippy Shopper, got out and ran to the Freeway.

As i turned the first corner, on my journey to the first carona, i was faced with a roadblock.

I was in two minds about what to do, but in the end, they shot me up fast and i died in a fiery explosion.

Then, i tried to parachute down, out of a Dodo, into SF.

I managed to dodge 8, count them, 8 missiles but i made the bad decision of assuming you get given a parahute when you dive out.

So, that technique ended with an almightly splat.

I was too annoyed after, so next time, i'll come better prepared.

They are continuously spawned right behind you the whole journey home (when you get too far away), so it's quite funny when they get spawned on some object and flip over and blow up. Still, even killing them when the chase starts makes them come back at the end...

Also, it's possible to get a Minigun with no ammo capacity limit through a glitch on any of the missions in which you are given such a Minigun. I'm not sure how, but it's happened a few times now and is highly useful as you can probably imagine.

Just saying here, since I don't think we've covered it - for the purposes of the weapon challenges I'd probably say purposely triggering glitches or other shenanigans (e.g. the Ammu-Nation range ammo trick) is not allowed. I'm most definitely guilty as charged when it comes to playing normally, but this challenge is a little different colgate.gif

Remember everyone, you don't have to do the gyms at all. In fact, on my 100% completion save, the LV gym was the very last thing I did for 100%. You can do this challenge after "Yay-Ka-Boom-Boom" with no more hand-to-hand moves than those you have at the start of the game. Generally in this challenge playthrough I am ignoring most things that aren't storyline missions, only stopping to go on a Balla/Vago shooting spree to gather 9mm and Micro-Uzi ammo....

....which I'm not doing anymore because I'm past "The Green Sabre" and am now starting Catalina's missions with nothing in my hand but a camera. wow.gif

Some notes:

-In "Reuniting The Families" you use an AK for the chase, but you do NOT get to keep it. You do get a shotgun at the start of the mission and you do keep that. Of course this is gone with everything else after the following mission. Since CJ has no armor, just advance slowly through the motel and remember there's a Sprunk machine in the entrance lobby. I normally don't have to use that in the mission, but with limited ability to absorb bullets this was definitely handy. So is having the 9mm and Micro-Uzi at Hitman level. Walk over the MP5 drops to get more ammo, but of course, don't pick up the gun itself sly.gif (Mind, in some respects dual-wield Micro-Uzis are better than an MP5)

-In "Badlands" I didn't bother with stealth, although it's completely possible to slip into the cabin unnoticed. However, I just rode up to the guards on a Sanchez, spun around avoiding him while the guy gets in the car, then chased him down the mountain. I nudged him into a slope that flipped the car, then I pounded his skull in before taking the picture.

I've completed the "Kill a soldier on 6 stars with your bare fists" challenge.

Quite easy if you ask me. The hard part was actually finding a soldier to fight.

What I did was load a save, go outside my safe house(the one in SF where a snapshot is at, by the hill), do the 6 stars cheat and wait for a soldier to come to where I was but there were only a bunch of cops everywhere. I ran all around the place but only saw cop cars and helicopters shooting at me. Eventually they shot me down and I had to start all over again.

Repeated the previous proccess but this time, I got in a Bullet I had stored in my garage and drove around for a bit and THEN enter the 6 stars cheat expecting a roadblock somewhere. Just like I expected, I encountered a roadblock so I got out, avoiding the tanks and what not, and shot down all but one soldier and moved in quickly to beat him up to a bloody pulp! biggrin.gif

Yeah! First challenge I completed! cool.gif

Ah, back to Los Santos. Now that Sweet's out of prison it's time to take back Los Santos. CJ's been putting in work and has been waiting for this moment.

http://i43.tinypic.com/ifwnth.jpg

I guess I won't be needing those armor pick-ups after all tounge2.gif

I still have most of the 2000 micro smg ammo from Green Goo so the rest of the missions should be cheesecake. Do we have to do the Wang Cars and Casino heist missions for this challenge too?

Grats on your first challenge completion, Blizzard  biggrin.gif

Thanks!

Here are a couple of challenges that I though you guys might like.

-Can you become The King Of San Andreas, but where you limit yourself to weapons you either purchase at Ammu-Nation, pick off a fallen ped/gangster/cop etc. or get from a pickup location only when a mission requires it?

-Can you become The King Of San Andreas, but where you limit yourself to weapons you only get from a pickup location only when a mission requires it?

-Can you become The King Of San Andreas, but where you limit yourself to weapons you only receive from a mission (meaning no pick-ups from fixed locations, acquiring weapons by entering proofed vehicles etc)?

Just a little something for those of you who are doing that challenge but completing the storyline. Lets see if you got what it takes to go for the long run! The missions were just a warm up, now THAT, thats the real challenge!

Finally, something I actually though of on myself.

-Can you complete the mission N.O.E. without ever raising the visibility bar?

I dont think one person here will ever do those KOSA challanges, Blizzard.

Sorry to say, but it takes ridiculously long just doing it however you can.

I've the the NOE one before. Quite easy. I just do it without even thinking about it, the bar never increases.

More in-depth method:

Starting off from the airstrip, i go SW towards the canyons. I duck in an out of them before staying very low and following the road, that leads to Area 69, south. I get to Fort Carson, and you can go straight over the top without triggering the visibility bar, provided you stay low enough.

Continuing south, i go directly next to the Martin Bridge, being lower than the actual bridge while over the water, then ontinue over Blueberry Acres.

Through here, and most of Flint water/LS Inlet, it is strange how high you are allowed to go before it triggers, so as long you stay near to the water, it is easy to stay 'under the radar'.

The next bit requires diligence and concentration. You need to remain rather low and close to the water while flying around the outskirts of Flint County, right around to the South West.

When you arrive at Angel Pine, continue all the way around to the Western most beach, do a sharp 90 degree turn and head back across AP to the carona.

Then, fly under the freeway bridge, or else visibility will be triggered.

Flying under prevents this from happening.

Then, just follow the exact route and same procedure back and you've completed it.

How about a less hardcore one? Like:

Can you win the race San Fierro Fast Lane with one of the homies riding shotgun?

http://i41.tinypic.com/dxfcee.jpg

They spawn nearby when you take them with you on the races, but you have to wait for him to get in the car so it forces you to give the other racers a head start. I've won other races with them but San Fierro Fast Lane is a short race and I'm not sure if it's possible without destroying the other cars or some other unfair way.

By the way, that screenshot is NOT from my weapon challenge save files

Hardly.

I can get good distance on the rest of the pack by the end of the race, so im sure i can catch up and get the win easily enough.

I'll take the challenge next time i load up SA, if i remember.

EDIT: Completed.

He appeared on top of the car in front of me.

In was in my car after 2 seconds.

I was in 1st after 17 seconds.

I spun out at 23 seconds blush.gif , but regained my 1st at 33 seconds and never lost it.

Pictures:

(Terribly sorry about the quality of the pictures, im on PS2, so i had to grab the camera and finished the race with one hand then take a picture, then press triangle to get them out and snap another one before it faded out.)

Nice work on the soldier challenge, Blizzard! icon14.gif

About your challenge suggestions, I'm not going to add the 'King Of San Andreas' challenges in, as they would take an age to get done, and most gamers probably won't have the commitment to go all the way with one, never-mind all of them.

I'll add these two challenges into the table, although they have both been completed-

-Can you complete the mission N.O.E. without ever raising the visibility bar?

-Can you win the race San Fierro Fast Lane with one of the homies riding shotgun?

Top job on completing the challenges in such a short period of time, !!GC!! icon14.gif

Well, Catalina's missions weren't half as difficult as I thought. You get a shotgun for "Small Town Bank" and Catalina has one too. What's more, she's pretty effective with it. I have 26 rounds left and eight satchel charges. Time to race with Cesar and Woozie. Nothing different about that.

I figured it would've been beneficial to do some leveling up on the shotgun ability with what I got for "Reuniting The Families" awhile back. Since I was losing everything after "The Green Sabre" and I knew I could pass that using the other guns, I just unloaded the shotgun into cars to get up to Gangster level.

do the 6 stars cheat

Should we count the soldier challenge as completed because Blizzard used the 6 star cheat? I'm not jealous or anything, I only think that NO cheats should be used in completing the challenges.

Anyway I'm gonna try that challenge without cheats.
