rubregg
Ok, thanks. I assume I can't go back to Emmet's either when one of the missions after Nines and AKs tells me "Go to Emmet's and pick up a gun if you need one." Also sounds like I'll have to do the Da Nang Thang with only the knife (at least most of it) and can't pick up the weapons my opponents drop. Edit: moved to next post due to cross-posting What about the baseball bat in Cleaning the Hood? The mission tells me to pick it up, but it's not really required. Can I pick that one (and similar ones) up? Ok then, sounds like quite a challenge. Eerr, one more thing - it is allowed, I suppose, to get and use some of the proofed mission vehicles, right? Mainland Marauder
flicko, what do you think about Emmet's? I think an exception can be made there, considering it's earned in a way by completing the mission. You already have the gun, so why not allow it for an ammo pickup? It would actually make Emmet relevant for a change Going there for missions can make you lose some advantage in some missions like "Sweet's Girl" where you have a time limit. Well, it's certainly possible without Emmet's (I'm doing the same challenge, and I'm in San Fierro, and I never used Emmet's). So it'd be more of a challenge to stay clear of Emmet's. Oh, and I think you get a some sort of SMG ammo for both OG Loc and Just Business, and shotgun for Reuniting the Families. Regarding Da Nang Thang with only a knife, it's certainly possible! rubregg
I also wouldn't go so far as to allow Emmet's pistol as a free pickup. This would technically give unlimited pistol ammu and the challenge is about doing it with highly restricted ammu/weapons. I was only talking about those few instances, when the mission actually tells you to go to Emmet's "if you need a gun". But hey, if radicell made it to SF without Emmet's then it's perfectly fine with me to leave Emmet's pistol out entirely. BTW, nice one on the Da Nang Thang with only the knife, radicell. Looking forward to it. So, what about the baseball bat in Cleaning the Hood? The mission tells me to pick it up, but it's not really required. Can I pick that one (and similar ones) up? 123robot
I picked up the baseball bat and when I realized I didn't have to, I also asked and flicko said it was ok. Here's a quote from flicko: There's nothing wrong with that at all. By this- -You can pick up weapons when they are given to you on specific missions I mean when someone tells you to use a weapon on a mission, you can pick it up and use it. Some missions will force you to use weapons without you having to pick them up, so I obviously wasn't referring to that. Continue with the challenge. Hope this helped! flicko
Hmm, I'm going to be a bit of a pain here, but I think for this challenge, you aren't allowed to go back to Emmets, since you are not required to do so. It's a good job you have decided not to methinks. It will also make the challenge that bit more difficult, which is always a good thing! And regarding the baseball bat pick-up, yeah I think I'll allow that one since the mission tells you to pick it up. Oh and Mainland, you seem to be forgetting that you have as much control over this topic as I do, since SA is a game I'm totally not used to and haven't regularly played for a fair while. Not to mention this particular challenge is devised by you, so you get rights to call the shots in the first place.
rubregg
Thanks flicko and 123robot. robot, I saw that post of yours but I thought you meant the other challenge, where you can go to ammu-nation etc..., like the other posts before yours. So, what about those proofed vehicles - allowed, right?

Not to mention this particular challenge is devised by you, so you get rights to call the shots in the first place. Ok....then maybe just this once I'll have to disagree with you. I would like to allow Emmet.....think of it this way - you don't have to go stock up on ammo at Emmet's, but you don't have to pick up the bat for "Cleaning The Hood" either. If we allow that we can allow Emmet. It is not a normal spawn because it only shows up after you complete a specific mission. This does not open other weapon spawns, such as the 9mm in Grove Street directly north of Sweet's house in the corner (or the Tec-9 on the roof). This will at least help with upgrading the pistol skill from Poor to Gangster or Hitman (enabling dual wielding). You're not getting another strap besides the nine for awhile, so you will depend on it. Regarding proofed vehicles - well, I never said anything in the challenge about not allowing proofed vehicles so.... Using vehicles for offense is a tactical cornerstone for me in this type of challenge. You get a shotgun for entering a police cruiser, and armor for entering an Enforcer. Do not simply enter these police vehicles for the goodies, but if you have to use one for the purposes of a mission, the shotgun's fair game to use. flicko
My mistake, I was under the impression the Baseball Bat pick-up was sort of mandatory. As I've said, it's been a while. To be honest, if it's not really required then I'm sure passing the mission and missions following on from that will still definitely be possible, as well as fun. One question though; I'm not too sure about using a Shotgun and the likes for missions upon entering a proofed-vehicle, and it makes me wonder whether a new challenge, where the only weapons you are allowed to use are when they are given to you on a mission, and you cannot pick one up from a pick-up location or by entering a proofed vehicle etc should be put in force. This would make the challenge even more difficult, and consequently even more rewarding upon completion. Thoughts?

123robot
I might not use the bat to make the challenge even harder! (I haven't used it yet.) So if I don't use that, the only weapons I have so far are Fists and a Spray can.
lazy34
If you recruit two GSF members before the mission, they'll follow you into the house and you can get them to shoot for you In Toreno's Last Flight they force you to get the Rocket Launcher to continue the mission, but there's also an AK-47 that only spawns once. If you don't pick it up it stays there, but once you get it, it won't come back. Edited February 20, 2009 by lazy34
GTA Phreak
In Toreno's Last Flight they force you to get the Rocket Launcher to continue the mission, ... Errr, - No! You don't have to pick it up to complete the mission. But AFAIK the target blip won't appear before you pick it up, - so you need to destroy it without having it on radar. It's probably going to be hard to complete the mission without picking up some heavy weapon. (but I might have an idea that can work).

Launching a highly damaged about-to-explode car into the chopper via the ramp in front of the Wang Autos PnS; is it even remotely possible? I don't think it'd be possible to reach the ramp before the chopper gets there. But it'd have been pretty cool if possible.

Since it's been forever since I did that mission, can you just speed ahead, get out, fire some AK rounds and then go away? Are you required to pick up the rockets in "Are You Going To San Fierro?" Can't remember there either. You are definitely required to take the flamethrower to burn The Truth's....botanical wonders. Since it's been forever since I did that mission, can you just speed ahead, get out, fire some AK rounds and then go away? It's possible to speed ahead of the copter; that's what I always do. Then wait for the copter to reach the end of the bridge where it hovers at one point momentarily. That's when I take it down. I've never tried taking it down with an AK-47/M4, but I did try to get it with the launcher while it was still moving along the bridge and I could never hit it even once. Are you required to pick up the rockets in "Are You Going To San Fierro?" Can't remember there either. You are definitely required to take the flamethrower to burn The Truth's....botanical wonders. You get the rocket launcher during the cutscene, so you cannot avoid it. You can use satchel charges instead of the flamethrower to burn the weed though. Mainland Marauder
OK. You could just conserve the rockets and make sure you have enough left on hand to take down Toreno's chopper later. As for the satchel charges, if there is a mission where you get those, I'm not recalling it. Is there a way you can use those within the parameters of the challenge? My idea did however work (and it's quite fun): http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/7069/to...tflight2kb1.jpg (potential spoiler) No takers on the BMX challenge? Strategic placement of CJ and accurate shooting can get you through most missions without a armour. Besides, the harder missions have armour spawn points (eg. Breaking the Bank at Caligula's, A Home in the Hills, etc.) which you can pick up. Apart from that, I don't think it'd be necessary to pick up any armour before a mission. For this purpose we'll consider gang wars "missions." Or would we say only gang wars after CJ has returned to LS in the storyline, since the first time you can do gang wars they are not mandatory (you can take all the turf over and lose it just the same after "The Green Sabre"). Unfortunately his screenshots aren't there anymore, but I posted some a bit further down. Interesting, - I fooled around a bit with that method and finally managed to do it by parking 2 cars end to end (I couldn't do it with just 1) at Wangs and gas-capping the N - most right as Toreno's heli passed by. So apart from the method I posted earlier, it can also be passed using a single pistol round.
