Why is there no planes in Liberty City?

I wounded were there is no planes that are flyable in GTA IV and the only explanation i could think of was because the game was based on New York, and the events of 9/11 would be a logical reason for no flyable plans.

It's been speculated and stated before by Mr. Sam Houser himself... The head of Rockstar North.

He saw no point in including plane travel based solely on other means of transport and the size of LC.

I feel it's not entirely justified, as the size is still pretty reasonable, but that's all there is to it, really!

The 9/11 thing was way back when GTA3 was to be released. It has got nothing to do with anything in IV. It's just that the size of the map is so small that there is no point to include planes in the game. Imagine a Hydra in IV. 99 out of 100 times you'll overshoot the target and probably end up in the sea.

All you need to see is that using a Heli is VERY fast compared to other means, and it works well, and not so hard to come by either. I love the view, and getting around obsticles with one isn't a simple task.

I think the check point races would still be good value added to long term play however, even if they are old hat.

Besides, San Andreas had plenty of planes and tall buildings to crash into. 9/11 only had an impact on GTA3 as it happened so close to the release of the game, and Rockstar felt inclined to change some aspects of the game out of respect.

Because San Andreas was four different cities, not four different boroughs.

It's a dick move making someone able to ride a plane around a f*cking city.

SA only had 3 cities. confused.gif

Anyway I still think it had something to do with the new physics, or maybe a much simplier theory is they didn't want to add them?

My point still stands though. San Andreas was three cities, people travel from city to city

either by car or plane. Why would there be an airline traveling in one city from one borough

to the other? Of course there are planes going to other places in IV but they're just not

flyable.

Be a man and call a taxi then hit A and you will be there rather quickly.

This worries me that there will never be planes again on this cannon of games. I get pissed off going into the airport and getting a wanted level when I want to get a plane, but realise I can't.

Good thing I've got SA and VC.

Oh and IV isn't just 4 boroughs, it's alderney (new jersey) as well as algonquin, broker, dukes, bohan.

yet another clueless knucklehead asking why there are no planes....

Uh, exactly who the f*ck are you again?

Do this for me: Take your pointer and middle finger and hold them up, then swivel your wrist like you're swiping something with your two fingers.

Then say "swoosh."

That's you wiping the sand out of your vagina. Now you can stop being so bitchy about people using the forums for what they're supposed to be used for.

Liberty City is actually pretty large; roughly about the size of San Andreas. The problem lies in the fact that you only have one airport where you can safely land your aircraft. San Andreas made airplanes a necessity because there are three separate cities (each with an airport) with vast countrysides in between.

Let's assume airplanes are controllable in the game. You will only be able to acquire airplanes from Dukes. You may have to eject elsewhere if no proper landing spots are available (assuming the game has parachutes of course). Even if we have another airport in, say, Alderney, taxis and trains (which TBH are actually more practical in cutting traveling time) will be rendered useless, wasting programming time. Not to mention it's a bit of a way to cheat by taking really easy traveling shortcuts.

I'm not meaning to offend, but I basically disagree with everything you said confused.gif First off IV's map is nowhere near as big as San Andreas's, It's quite a lot smaller. Yeah it's more dense and there's more detail and whatnot but in terms of land mass there's no contest. San Andreas was big enough to warrant planes, Liberty City isn't.

Also if planes were included I would still use a car/taxi/train to get to the airport so they'd still have a use. And hopping in a taxi and pressing A would be a hell of a lot quicker than finding a plane and flying is across the map, so planes couldn't really be called 'a bit of a way to cheat by taking really easy traveling shortcuts.'

San Andreas was about twice as big as liberty city, probably 3 times if you include the water in between islands.

The real reason is simply because the other airports are not in-game yet. Soon, you will fly in liberty city. Call it prophesy. ph34r.gif

it is not 9/11, and no one could give a F less about 9/11 anymore in entertainment. No one is forced to delete trade centers anymore, etc. It is not a political thing, you just have no reason to even want an airplane yet.

the reason is the city's size , imagine yourself drives a plane above liberty city only , How much time do you think you will take to go around LC by the plane ? If the map size was as GTA SA , and more cities , then ,that will be good for planes to be in the game .

I wonder why must people say that the reason for not having planes in GTA IV is because the city is too small. In what kind of planes are you guys thinking exactly? Because if I remember correctly, SA had lots of planes, and although some of them don't fit at all in LC, others would be perfect.

For example, of course that an AT-400, Andromada, Shamal, Nevada, Hydra, even the Beagle, wouldn't fit too well, because they're used for trips between cities, and we only have one city in GTA IV.

However, what about the Dodo? I mean, in GTA III and Vice City we only had one city and one airport too, and there was a Dodo in GTA III and a Skimmer in VC (which is basically a Dodo with floaters tounge.gif). So why not having one in Liberty City? The "it's a too small city" doesn't make sense here no more. The Annihilator is faster than the Dodo at full speed. Why isn't the city small for it, but it is for the Dodo? dozingoff.gif

I don't know why Rockstar didn't put a single plane on the game. But I think they should improve that and put one in the next DLCs, it would be really good. The Dodo is part of GTA games for a long time now, and it always fit very well, even with only one city. It's fun to fly, it can be used for some missions or just to spent some time flying with it. I really like to fly with the Maverick around LC, seeing the details from the air. A Dodo would be even better.

I can't wait to have on ingame... hopefully the modders will make it work soon.

Because you touch yourself at night confused.gif .

Nah, because there is only one airport, plus IV doesn't warrant having planes due to the size, how everything is closer together. Also I remember Rockstar saying for realism-sakes they didnt want tonnes of people flying planes throughout Liberty City.
