Omnia sunt Communia Posted January 20, 2009 Share Posted January 20, 2009 The IFMagazine.com entertainment website reports that film producer Erwin Stoff (The Matrix, A Scanner Darkly) is developing a live-action adaptation of Sunrise's Cowboy Bebop multi-genre action anime series for Fox. Stoff told the website that the project is "in the really early stages" since the parties "just signed it the other day." Shinichiro Watanabe's original anime follows the motley crew of the spaceship Bebop as it travels throughout the solar system in search of the next job. Stoff promised "a real degree of faithfulness," and added, “When I met with them in Japan, one of the first things that I brought up was the experience that we had on A Scanner Darkly, and how hard we worked to remain faithful to Philip K. Dick, and that was our big concern here.” Source Did anybody else hear about this? I was pretty pissed-off when I found out. Especially when I heard Keanu Reeves might be playing Spike. Oh jesus, Keanu Reeves can't act for sh*t. This will be even worse than the Dragon Ball movie is going to be if they cast f*cking Keanu Reeves as Spike. Partly because making a Cowboy Bebop movie was always one of my dreams, in addition to actually becoming a film director. But yeah, there goes that. And another kick in the crotch, Keanu said the movie was going to follow the plot of "Red Eye", the narcotic substance seen in episode 1 I believe. This sounds retarded, as Red Eye wasn't even a major plot thread throughout the series. I don't even remember it being brought up again outside that episode. So, what the f*ck? Why do it about that? And not about Spike and Vicious? If it's Keanu, they're going to f*cking ruin this franchise for movies once, and then continue to milk it until Fox says enough. I predict more than one film if people get trapped into watching the first. I hate Keanu. Oh, and Keanu is an awful choice to play Spike, forget the voice, think about the hair... On-topic though, I'm not looking forward to this in the slightest. Especially if they cast Keanu Reeves as Spike. Why cast the stiffest man in Hollywood to play the most fluid character in anime? I mean look at this photo: Do you honestly think Keanu will be able to pull that pose off? "Do you know what really grinds me gears? Hollywood! f*ck you Hollywood!" This movie is doomed. This poster made me chuckle though: I think that's the only person who they could pick who would be worse than Reeves.
