gaspah1981
so i scrapped windows 7, went back to vista, and guess what, i still cant play this game i paid for. now none of the buildings/anything loads. Now all I get is a white sky and black ground and a few flickering sprites occasionally. Latest drivers are installed, rockstar social club is fully updated, so is games for windows and everything else the game demands before it will run. i've tried re-installing the game, resetting the machine, running in compatibility mode etc etc running the retail version of the game PC DVD Games for Windows Live, WIndows Vista SP1 with all automatic updates installed, all drivers installed correctly heres pages of dxdiag readout.... ------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 1/20/2009, 12:58:50 Machine name: GASPAH-PC Operating System: Windows Vista™ Ultimate (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.longhorn_rtm.080118-1840) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. logitechdog
funny I have a 8800GTX running smooth, would be 2 if sli worked... I have the none beta drivers installed 180.48 try that.. better correct the 84 to 48 lol ( just installed the 181.20 ones, they working too, use language(english( UK)), as they files are larger, hell knows why), maybe you should also check your directx install uninstall the c++ 2005 x64 version if you got it and run the vcredist_x86 on your cd in the Redistributable folder ( or might be your not run as admin on the exe ) You want to disable UAC as that stops you been an admin of your admin account... that why you got to press accept all the time.. start > start search > msconfig > tools > ( scroll down to UAC disabled ) click launch... and relax at never seeing that permission window again.. if it don't work... then maybe your going to have to do a clean boot, as I had no problems just inserting the discs other than sli Edited January 20, 2009 by logitechdog

Also, these drivers are the same drivers that worked last time and have tried 2 sets of drivers. Not having any problems with other games but now cannot even enter this one, especially since the SecuLauncher errors have locked me out completely. gaspah1981
Have you tried tabbing out and back into the game? It's not a real fix, but the very few times it happened to me, it didn't occur again. alt+tab does fix it momentarily, but then i walk down the stairs at the save spot and its all messed up again.. i alt+tab once im outside and it seems to run ok until i next go to save my game. but every time without fail when i load or save my game it looks like the first picture i posted. thanks for the tip tho and as for it worked before something else i installed mustve done it.. gta4 is the only game i currently have installed (besides minesweeper etc that come with windows). and all my other software is tried and tested software that ive been using for at least 12 months minimum.. all those regular programs and on a fresh installation of vista sp1
gruntmas
bump still not working This seems like the typically no texture problem , im having the same problem. And the only fix now is systweak cacheboost. ( wich works) BUT - Its a 30 day trial. - And slows down the framerate and causes stuttering in the game. I really hope rockstar reads al these issue posts and makes a patch against it really soon.

gaspah1981
as i've past the deadline to receive a refund from EB games for this poorly coded heap of crap, if I don't get a working solution to this problem (Very Soon), I vow to find whatever 'cracks' there are for this game (and any other rockstar games) and distribute hard copies for free to anyone I see in game stores eying up this or another rockstar title.. i have the facility to do it (i mean i have 8 of my own pcs with working dvd burners), and even making rockstar lose a few grand from potential customers (more potential than people on bittorrent at least) will satisfy me. My advice to you is to tell all your friends either not to buy or to download the game via pirate sites.. the only language they understand is money. yeah exactly.. and it was AU$99.95.. but, when I get pissed off I get a bit more active than just 'friends', I have no problem burning 50-100 copies and discretely handing them out to people in game shops looking at buying the game. I mean 400 discs, thats what AU$100 and a few hours burning(cue 50 copies of each of the 4 discs on each of my 8pcs all i have to do is change the discs as i watch movies), but if I select the right people in game stores to hand them to for free, that could impact up to AU$10,000 on sales for rockstar. Steal from me R* and be sure I will help others steal from you. It really pisses me off, because I have legitimate copies of GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas and GTA IV (and I used to have a legit copy of GTA1 but I lost that years ago). This is how they treat a faithful customer, a customer who ignored all the forum buzz about how draconian the drm was going to be, how low the fps is on the most elite hardware. But be sure that next time around, I wont be so foolish with my game purchases.
logitechdog
well from your first screenshot to this one its improved.... and you did say it worked before.... but you still got problems.... just for the hell of it add in the commandline.txt and see what happens -noprecache
One-time
You might want to try the instructions provided in this thread: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=381648 You'll have a lower fps but the textures will show. It's a shame really that we have to use a 3rd party program just to make it work.

When the game first loads, its exactly the same as the first screenshot.. I'll give the commandline.txt thing a go, but i'm guessing thats going to severely affect performance (which isnt exactly pleasing to begin with) can't find commandline.txt Edited January 27, 2009 by gaspah1981

Especially paying for a program, pirating a program or installing demoware, I have important data on this machine its not just a gaming rig and risking work for play just isn't logical. But thanks anyways. Not an acceptable solution rockstar.

I like your idea, it is however quite illegal and you could be arrested, fined and imprisioned, a least in my country anyway (i'm certain its the same for my Australian comrades also) so i would certainly not suggest advocating this. Just advise anyone you know who is considering buying it to download instead, everyone who is reading this who is STILL having problems a MONTH after release i advise you all do the same. It is not illegal to do this and it is the only way we can detract from what hurts them most.. their profits. EDIT: also I can garentee you noprecache won't fix the problem... if it was that simple Rockstar would have posted it officially. Stop exploiting yourselves by working for Rockstar FOR FREE by helping each other with problems.. this is what they wan't. Anything so they don't have to spend any money on it.. what do you think this forum is for? its basically free customer service because you talk amongst yourselves rather than waiting for an official response (which usually takes weeks). EDIT2: Someone said "It's a shame really that we have to use a 3rd party program just to make it work. " regarding the use of memory optimizers. Its NOT a 'shame' its a downright disgrace and you wouldn't accept it if you had bought anything else. Ask for your money back (I have made an official complaint now). Ask for your money back (I have made an official complaint now). while technically it is illegal.. the political climate in australia suggests that absolutely no action will be taken even if caught, coupled with the fact I have no intent nor will i accept any money for the discs, the likely hood of a conviction are next to zero. selling and sharing (giving away) are viewed very differently under the law. I'm not worried at all. the -precache thing didnt work either. So whilst i'm still considering whether to do this, one thing is certain, i wont pay for another rockstar title again. they've gotten hundreds of dollar from me over the years... other titles from rockstar aside from the GTA games i mentioned earlier that i have legit copies of are manhunt(now banned here but i got a disc befroe it was), midnight club 2 and max payne 2... so yeah, i buy a fair few of their games. but no more. i think i'll save my money for better hardware instead. t0nedude
Gaspah, From your first post you say you have all the latest drivers installed, but your DXdiag listing (dated 01/20/09) would say otherwise. I may have missed something but is there a reason you're using GPU drivers (169.xx) from March last year (2008) 8 months before the game was even released? The latest official ones for the 8800GTX for Vista is 181.22, I am using the beta 185.20 which is displayed here: --------------- Display Devices --------------- Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce GTX 260 DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_05E2&SUBSYS_23901682&REV_A1 Display Memory: 1652 MB Dedicated Memory: 885 MB Shared Memory: 767 MB Current Mode: 1920 x 1200 (32 bit) (59Hz) Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor Driver Name: nvd3dum.dll,nvwgf2um.dll Driver Version: 7.15.0011.8520 (English) DDI Version: 10 Driver Attributes: Final Retail Driver Date/Size: 12/26/2008 19:20:00, 6733824 bytes WHQL Logo'd: No WHQL Date Stamp: None Device Identifier: {D7B71E3E-46A2-11CF-7A54-9B0301C2CA35} Vendor ID: 0x10DE Device ID: 0x05E2 SubSys ID: 0x23901682 Revision ID: 0x00A1 Revision ID: 0x00A1 I scoured all the posts here for any explanation for you using these very old drivers and may have missed it, but couldn't find anything.
