GTA Miles Vs. True Crime Miles

I'm wondering if the miles in a GTA game are the same as miles in a True Crime game. How do you measure miles in a game anyways? So, the largest GTA is GTA SA at 13.9 sq miles while TC: LA is 240 sq miles (TC: NY is 24 sq miles due to large density of Manhattan). Anybody who has played TC: LA would know it takes basically forever to get from one side of the city to another. Who knows how they compare with measurements?

There shouldn't be any difference in scaling, as long as everything is to scale with everything else then distances etc. should feel "right" in game. A mile can only be a mile and can't be scaled independently to everything else, so if you travel at 60 mph in a straight line you will cover one mile in one minute, no matter what game you are using.

I suppose the question is did both games actually use miles or just pass off an arbitrary distance as a mile?. You said that TC: LA feels larger than SA, but you also give figures that say TC: LA's city is over 17 times larger than San Andreas, so even accounting for dodgy scaling would you really expect it not to feel bigger?
