Beat GTA IV PC, not one crash

I just wanted to throw up my GTAIV experience.

When I first bought the game I installed the patch. The game crashed everytime within 5 minutes of playing, Niko walked in circles with my

Xbox 360 controller plugged in. After a few days of reading online, trying hacks, fixes etc I reinstalled back to the out of the box version

and finally beat the game last night. It did not crash once for me since the reinstall. I played at 1280x960, full vid settings and although I did not check my framerate the game ran smooth all the time. I do not have a crazy good setup either.

E4300 @ 2.9 GHZ, 4GB PC6400, 9800GT, Gigabyte EP-35-DS3R.

When I first hit the crashes I was pretty pissed off but after beating the game I must say that this was the best GTA by FAR.

Awesome.

Have you played the multiplayer? If so, did you like it?

same here, got it off of steam the first day (took 7 + hours to download) once installed ran like crap. Tried dfferent settings and w/ a combination of product patches (steam/live/r*) and updated nivida newest drivers and just the right in game setting, the game runs flawless.

I say to anyone that is still waiting to give it a shot

I experienced not a single crash during my entire gameplay, not a single one...and i am already playing it for second time, mind you! ok, i just have some bugs within the game, due to my video card (ati x1900xtx, which means dark interiors and messed up internet screens), but nothing that kept me from playing on...i just made some tweaks to gain some more fps in order to play with high textures! So, in my case, GTA IV showed its nicer face to me! biggrin.gifinlove.gif

I added the -no restrictions command line, i defragmented the hard drive after installing gta IV, i shut down social club while playing singel player mode and i set gta IV.exe to highest priority by using the taskmanager, not to mention the usage of the first patch and amd fusion, expert setting...of course, it doesnt run smooth all the time, especially during rainfall, but most of the time i play 19 to 23 fps...at least enough to hit every enemy i aim at! biggrin.gif so all in all, i did nothing spectacular to tweak gta IV, as you can see...just tried out most of the hints suggested by fellow players here on the forum!

Same here. GTA IV is really good, runs great and not a single crash ever. I have the dvd version and i installed the patch as soon as it was released. I am using no tweaks for windows or the game. It's perfect as is. I just recently started my 4th game and im going for 100% second time around.

Do you get an achievement for completing it without a crash? biggrin.gif

Seriously though, I've never had it crash either. It just runs badly (for me) and is full of bugs.

ExitiumMachina

I haven't had any problems with the game aside from a few graphic glitches (but my setup is minimal at best). Moderately good GFX card with the PNY 9800GT at 1Gb, but about crap with CPU with Duo at 2.2Ghz with 2Gb memory.

Still runs great, and haven't had a single crash yet.

This game did run perfectly for me , but I just got a new video card today , a ATI Radeon 4870 1GB DDR5, and now I can't play for more than 1 min before the game freezes up and I am forced to restart my computer.

I did a fresh install of windows xp today and installed GTA 4 again and it did not help. I also got the MESC10 no video memory left error before I formatted , but now I don't get that error anymore it just freezes my whole computer up completely sad.gif

sucks... dunno what to do .

Have you used a Nvidia card before the 4870 ? If so, you could try to run Driver Sweeper before installing the new ATI driver.

1- Download a program called Driver Sweeper (youll find it at guru3d.com)

2- Download the latest ATI drivers for your card.

3- Install Driver Sweeper.

4- Unistall your old video driver (using control panel), then reboot.

5- Boot back to windows in safe mode, run Driver Sweeper and delete all entries , folders and files related to ATI, Nvidia and Ageia drivers.

6- Reboot again, boot back in normal mode.

7- Install the latest ATI drivers for your GPU. Reboot again.

works great on my pc too, even though my old pc doesn't meet minimum requirements (just graphics card) but it's a real pathetic, we users had to fix R*'s games to play them smooth. They should be the one who provide tweaks, fix etc.

Of course, they should have...but as long as they don´t do anything, i fear, we have to be the ones to make the game run better... colgate.gif
