ZaCkOX
ZaCkoX I'm sorry that Steam didn't refund the game for you. It was based on a case by case system. You can either wait for more patches for GTA4 or you could never buy games through steam again. It's totally up to you. But it's not my problem. Don't even think about pinning this on me. Why would I pin it on you? I was asking if anyone knew a way to get around steam and get a real refund.

CharmingCharlie
[Man I can see you love PC games hey I think you hate the idea that devs will move all future products to console. I love PC gaming, to me there is no other way on this earth I would do my gaming. In my 20 year gaming history I have done all my gaming on the PC, but I bought an Xbox 360 to play GTA 4, principally because I very much doubted the PC was going to get GTA 4. It was of course absolutely sh*t and the console lasted a month before I chucked it in the bin and I will never touch a console again. If PC gaming does die out then I will find another hobby rather than be subjected to those sh*tty lil toys. However having been a PC gamer for so long I can see that the PC is being "betrayed" on nearly every side. We have MS using the PC as some sort of cash cow to prop up the sh*tbox whilst using the sh*tbox to erode the PC's user base. We have Nvidia and ATI trying to make a quick buck off the consoles at the PC's expense. We have developers that owe their very existence to the PC treating it like it is a diseased whore. Then finally we have a lot of PC gamers using the PC format as some sort of god damn free ride and to hell with the consequences. At the end of the day I don't care if the games appear on the console or not, I am not after measuring the PC's success by the number of "exclusives" all I care about is PC gaming itself and right now piracy whether you believe it or not is sucking the life out of the pc. It doesn't matter what argument you use whether it is "oh well those pirated copies aren't lost sales" to a developer they will see their hard work being stolen by thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of people and think "well f*ck it, we could make more money just staying with the consoles". TruXter
No really, what I meant is, SHOW ME PROOF OF THEM REFUNDING. Maybe you should ask someone that got their game refunded through steam. I didn't get mine through steam but I had the option of taking it back or keeping it. I kept it. It runs ok on my system. But that being said, my system is way over the minimum requirements. I have googled it like crazy, Ihave only found rumors with nothing to prove. best I found was a response from steam saying they never give refunds. http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/2402/st...impissedfi9.jpg http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/43399/Gr...To-Get-A-Refund Is your google not working? Man whoever made that was bullsh*tting. No you can't get a refund regardless. When you buy the game you sign a contract saying you can't refund it. I tried over and over. That page is crap, even read the comments. I went through the same sh*t. Steam won't refund. I asked other friends they got the same problem. Support ticket comes up with Steam saying they will not refund you! I'm with you on that.

CharmingCharlie
Yes Drunk Russian 9 it has occurred to me, however the point is piracy on the consoles is pretty much small time since you need to physically alter your console to do it and with some consoles you can't even pirate the game. I keep seeing people bringing up excuses, look yes piracy exists on the 360/Wii but at the same time the 360 and Wii sell sh*tloads of copies. I am sure when Halo 3 came out it was pirated on the Xbox yet it went on to sell 8 million copies. Now compare that to Crysis which was pirated to buggery and back and that barely shifted 1 million copies. So as a software developer what would you think ? Is it any wonder that Crytek thought "f*ck this for a game of soldiers we will do a console version next time". The problem isn't JUST piracy the problem is more and more people are stealing the game and less and less are buying PC games. Whereas the console people are pirating the game but there are still millions that will go out and buy it as well. I know there is no arguing with people that believe in piracy they will come up with all the excuses in the book to defend it. Then when we are getting frogger remake 3000 it still won't be piracy's fault that the PC gaming industry will be all but dead. It will always be everyone else's fault except piracy. The question I have to ask is; why do devs try to punish the end user who will actually buy their product? It just doesn't make sense. The legitimate end user will not be a pirate, and should not be treated as such. Edited January 20, 2009 by Vert101
ZaCkOX
Well when I was less experienced with codding I did the same, and I learned it's not fun to lock the real customer out of something else that may be legal anyway. I shouldn't have to force customers to be locked in with my software. So I decided I would remove it all, and people were happy. Of course I have no protection but I'm not pissing off my customers anymore.
DML
The problem isn't JUST piracy the problem is more and more people are stealing the game and less and less are buying PC games. In other words, you're saying: "the problem isn't JUST piracy...the problem is...piracy". Whereas the console people are pirating the game but there are still millions that will go out and buy it as well. While true in most cases, the particular case here is GTA IV. Here's Rockstar's stance... Rockstar Games presents... The Official Grand Theft Auto IV Sales FAQ Q: Which versions were given the most publicity? A: The console versions. Q: Which versions were given top priority during development? A: The console versions...well actually...until the port, the console versions were the ONLY versions in development. Q: What is the release date for the game? A: April 2008...... [couple-o-months of silence] .........oh and we'll squeeze out a PC version in December. Q: Why the big delay for the PC version? A: Because we enjoy the quick buck we get whilst we run our false economy of console exclusivity contracts. One last question after all is said and done... Q: Which version, console or PC, sold the most? A: The console versions. Q: Why do you suppose that is? A: Oh, definitely because of piracy. Q: Do you work for Rockstar? A: Yes. Q: Are you a dickhead? A: Yes.
ZaCkOX
Piracy is not the reason more sold for the console. More people can afford the console, and then the game.

I did complete it and played it for 2 months. I was happy it came to the PC and the reason I bought it was because I believed it would be much better than the Xbox 360 version. But it suffered a lot of problems... of course they screwed me over then I couldn't get a refund.

Toxcity
Rockstar would have also made a bigger profit on the PC version if they didn't decide to spend thousands on security. Security which failed... and also makes a legit user suffer.

algenon_iii
The PC gaming hardware market is worth $20 billion and expected to grow to $34 billion by 2012. PC gaming is worth $25 billion. The PC gaming industry is just fine. NO the VIDEO GAMING market is worth $25 billion - that's a very big difference, it's fair to say 80-90% of the $25 billion is for the console market.
