sof2man
Hello all, Has anyone here tried to mod the Steam distribution version of GTA IV yet? I have found that if I make any change at all to the handling.dat file in my Steam install of the game, the game will not launch! Even a minor change to one value (for example, I tried just changing the mass of the Banshee from 1500.00 to 1600.00) will cause the game to never launch again. No errors, no crashes, just silence. Restore the original .dat file and the game launches no problem. Is it not possible to mod the Steam version? Anyone who can provide input is appreciated. jelly
That's not because of Steam. The game is the exact same. You need to use aru's workaround whether you have Steam or regular retail. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=380102 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/393028-modding-steam-version-of-gta-iv/#findComment-1058889850 Share on other sites
sof2man
Ahhh, I did not realize the game was intended to be mod-unfriendly. Thank you for the link. pimpinpenguin?
The good thing with Steam is if you mess up any of the files. Delete them and the NCF files and Steam will redownload the missing files. But like it's been said anything you can mod on the retail version you can mod on the Steam version.
