looloolooigotsomeapples
Hey I was wonder if a 16x Hd 4830 would work on a 4x Asrock 4Coredual-SATA2? I googled it and I didn't find much useful info. Would it just run slower than normal? Have graphical problems?
ArcAngel
It should work, but it would be capped at 4x. My advice to you would be to upgrade your mobo to handle 16x cards.
looloolooigotsomeapples
I am not doing that, I have a budget and as long as it runs I am ok. I already know it runs Crysis well at high, but the last one I had had artifacts due to a faulty chip. I was actually making sure the 4x wasn't the reason. I don't think it was, because basic software like iclone (came with driver disc) had them too. One thing I thought was interesting was that F.E.A.R. was running flawlessly at max settings without artifacts, when iclone didn't? Confusing. But I digress. Thank you for informing me. anus
It would run, but your card would be bottlenecked by the 4x speed. Its best if you upgrade the mobo though, especially for a good card like the 4830.

I just want to play current games, and I always take gratuitous amounts of time finishing games, so I will be ok with it for some time.
okei
uhh you cant even fit a modern pci-e video card into a pci-e x4 slot It's basically like a slightly larger PCI-express x1 slot. Edited January 18, 2009 by okei

Then why did the 4830 I sent back a couple of weeks ago (because of faultiness) fit?

looloolooigotsomeapples
then you've told your specs wrongly Well, it says on the box "1x pci-express graphics slot" and does not specify anything else. But when I look on the internetz, it says it is in "x4 mode".
Fozzy Fozborne
What his motherboard has is a PCI-E 16x slot that is only running at 4x speed. This is also known as 4x electrical. It should work fine with your motherboard, but you're not going to get the full speed out of it due to the fact that your graphics card and motherboard can't communicate as well as they should be able to. As long as it plays Fallout 3 and Crysis at whatever settings. It'll also be a hell of lot better than my current 6800!
looloolooigotsomeapples
UPDATE: Crysis and Fallout 3 run fine when maxed. Hoorah! This thing is a lot better than the 6800. I also got XP 64-bit as apposed to 32-bit.

I was most enthused by that, however it's likely jumping too far ahead prior to the accepted technolgy being accepted, which it wasn't. Still amazingly forward thinking! Fozzy Fozborne
939 has been out of production for quite some time now. The last I checked, you couldn't even find a retail dual-core on any U.S. site.

The last I checked, you couldn't even find a retail dual-core on any U.S. site. Sure you can. I just recently bought a retail AMD Opteron 180 which is a dual core server processor. I also have the AsRock Dual Sata board with AGP and PCI-E. It's a very nice motherboard.
Fozzy Fozborne
I meant Athlon processors, should have specified.
