Panz
WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal health officials on Saturday urged consumers to avoid eating cookies, cakes, ice cream and other foods that contain peanut butter until the authorities can learn more about a deadly outbreak of salmonella contamination. Most peanut butter sold in jars at supermarkets appears to be safe, said Stephen Sundlof, head of the Food and Drug Administration’s food safety center. Officials are focusing on peanut paste, as well as peanut butter, produced at a plant in Blakely, Ga., owned by the Peanut Corporation of America. Its peanut butter is distributed to institutions and food companies but not sold directly to consumers. The peanut paste is an ingredient in cookies, cakes and other products sold in supermarkets. “This is an excellent illustration of an ingredient-driven outbreak,” said Dr. Robert Tauxe, who oversees food-borne illness investigations for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 470 people in 43 states have been sickened in the salmonella outbreak, and at least 90 have been hospitalized. At least six deaths have been linked to the outbreak. The salmonella bacteria, which can cause diarrhea, cramping and fever, is the most common source of food poisoning in the United States. Officials said new illnesses were still being reported in the outbreak. The Kellogg Company, which listed the Peanut Corporation as one of its suppliers, has recalled 16 products. They include the Austin and Keebler brands of peanut butter sandwich crackers and some snack-size packs of Famous Amos peanut butter cookies and Keebler Soft Batch Homestyle peanut butter cookies. Consumers should throw those products away. The Peanut Corporation has recalled all peanut butter produced at the Georgia plant since Aug. 8 and all peanut paste produced since Sept. 26. The plant passed its last state inspection this summer, but recent tests have found salmonella. HolyGrenadeFrenzy
This is terrible....I really enjoy peanut butter......but I am not willing to die for it! Does that peanut paste provider have anything to do with the common peanut butter brands; Peter Pan, Jiff, Skippy and what not?
Panz
In this other article, it said it's not so much jars of peanut butter than just peanut butter paste in crackers and stuff. Still...I thought they tested for this stuff?
Svip
In this other article, it said it's not so much jars of peanut butter than just peanut butter paste in crackers and stuff. Still...I thought they tested for this stuff? They do. Every now and then. When they feel like it. Or when people start dying. "Yo, some guys died from eating our sh*t, you think it may be our fault?" "Well, let's fine out." [tediously long testing montage] [together] "OH SHI-"
Girish
I've never been a fan of peanut butter. I can't even remember the last time I had peanut butter. I should be safe from whatever outbreak they say it is.

Effy in Chains
Well I hate peanut butter with a passion anyway, it's utterly vile stuff. This could be the downfall of that vomit inducing product once and for all! I wish.

Mike Tequeli
i´ve never eaten peanut butter.im allergic to nuts. what does peanut butter taste like? Peanuts aren't nuts. I'm pretty sure this is a scheme by kids who are allergic to peanut butter, so we can feel their pain.
Panz
The only good value you get out of peanut butter is putting it on the roof of a dog's mouth.

PetsOvernight
What is this Nutella you speak of? It's this really gross sh*t. Cocoa to the max Nutella is pretty damn awesome. Sweet as f*ck, but quite tasty. If I'm craving sugar I can just eat that sh*t off a spoon. And crunchy peanut butter > smooth.
Rebel
I've always hated the stuff, although my mum has it on occasion on cold toast. But yeah that Nutella is the sh*t when there's f*ck all in the house.
