ppehrson
Well, granted, it was playable on lowest settings etc. but that will not do for me. I have an E6400 dualcore (its a 64 bit processor), 4GB memory running on Vista32. I know I can only use the 3 GB. nVidia 8600 GT magic 512mb ram. Which is within specs. It ran like sh*t... Speedstep was no success. And I've heard that running on XP64/Vista64 is not always a success either. So I registered a beta key for Windows 7 (64-bit), installed (Steam version, I have both that and DVD retail), ran, updated etc. and found that I can run it on Win7 without any significant lagging, just like Saints Row 2. I am well aware that the issue is not whether or not I run 64 bit. But I am beginning to think, is this an OS issue or is it the game?.... because the game runs differently on very similar hardware. It SHOULD run the same way, if it was the game, thats why I speculate maybe it's an OS issue.
ikt
Maybe Microsoft itself should release a GTA IV patch. :')
anus
You're noticing an increase in performance because Windows 7 is a much better performing OS than XP or Vista. The OS does play a part in the performance of the game. Btw, I have an 8600GT too, can you tell me what settings you're running at and how many frames you get? But I heard some pple who are able to run gta4, they gained more fps.
anus
Windows 7 has far better performance than either 32 bit or 64 bit XP/Vista. Period.
thales100
Windows 7 has far better performance than either 32 bit or 64 bit XP/Vista. Period. I think some users have run and posted GTA 4 benchs with Vista and 7, including CharmingCharlie, without any perceptive increase in FPS. Edit: here it is the link - http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...entry1058867516 , 2 FPS increase Vista / 7. anus
Told you it was faster ! Nah I'm just kidding. 7 is faster in most apps and the performance boosts vary for different people i think. But worth a try. You won't have any problems with that monster rig anyway .

anus
It may increase performance. Windows 7 is said, by many, to be the fastest out of XP and Vista. Worth a shot. But, before switching to 7, give us your laptop's full specs. Your mobile processor is probably what's f*cking up your performance the most though, since its weaker than the desktop equivalents.
