pokrishka
I've bought myself a copy of PC version and have some troubles with it. First of all I don't match the minimal hardware requirements by this one thing: my videocard is GeForce 7600 and the game needs 7900 minimum as it said on the box. But I've downloaded the latest drivers and the game sorta works. Had some troubles with textures with older drivers. So here are my questions: 1) I have an extreme sound lag in whole game. In menu or in game itself - everywhere. I have a semi-pro soundcard Creative Professional E-Mu 1212m, maybe that is the problem, but I'm not sure. Any ideas what can I do to make sound work correct? It's like it repeats each short piece of sound 4 times so it sounds like a submachine gun firing. 2) I have a USB wheel controller. Can I play GTA with it? I'm confused they didn't make a support for it in such a new game. It was pissing me off in previous parts of this game that cars can accelerate or rotate wheels smooth. They can only be accelerating or not, wheels can be only turned left, right or be straight. For example a sorta old game Mafia from far 2001 had this feature and worked perfectly with my wheel and I loved using it, makes it very realistic so I was shocked Rockstar couldn't make it in their game in 2008. I believe there must be someway to tweak the game a bit for that, right? I've downloaded that emulator from the sticky thread here and it seemed to work, turning wheels worked fine, acceleration was on buttons, not on pedals but that might be changed in .ini file I guess. The thing is that it started to crash the game. Like when I shoot from the car or press some other buttons on the controller. 3) The camera follows the car really bad. When I do a turn the camera stays where it was and does the turn way too slow. If I drive on keyboard I can always use mouse to rotate the camera but if I ever get my wheel controller to work it would be impossible. And it's annoying on the keyboard too, anyway. Is there a way to change the camera rotate speed? Maybe editing some .ini file? 4) The game won't save the settings. When I open the game it's always set to minimal traffic, minimal shadow detail and stuff like that. How do I save them? I tried editing them and then save the game by visiting the home but it still doesn't work, all the time I have to change setting manually. It looks like a glitch, anyone had such problem and found the solution maybe? Edited January 18, 2009 by pokrishka
GammaRaptor
For lower end pc's i wouldn't play GTAIV. I have seen it first hand and the game looks f**ked up badly and screwed up big time.
pokrishka
Updated: On the last page of controllers topic found the link to a 3.0 version of emulator and it seems to work without crashes, so 2nd question is answered, a huge thanks to the author of the emulator
dub09
about the first problem... maybe you've installed some special non-native drivers to this soundcard ? did you try to update drivers using the official website ? and did you try commandline.txt in the dir of GTA IV with: -fullspecaudio or -minspecaudio ? about fourth: try deleting settings.cfg in XP - Documents and Settings\your_user\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Settings\ Vista - Users\your_user\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Settings\ then launch the game, make your graphics and save it or don't delete this file and use commandline.txt to launch the game with your prefered graphic settings (parameters are given in readme.txt)
pokrishka
I have the latest version of drivers for my soundcard, everything is official Tried that minspecaudio - didn't help... Btw, I don't have the folder "Settings" where it's suppose to be :S How do I make the game create it? Where can I find the entire list of command line parameters? Without settings folder I can set them by that txt file but I can't find a command for traffic amount.

pokrishka
I don't have it. Either official russian localisation is f*cked up, or the installation of the game is wrong. Reinstalling maybe?
chngdman
About #3, the cam is a bit too "car commercial" but it does that so that when you turn a corner it has more time to calculate your heading while the camera catches up to that heading and the game can render in what you will very soon be seeing. You'll get used to it, and use your mouse/camalog stick because fast movements - like those into a turn - put the priority on that for the same effect as quick turns on foot. And about #4, you wouldn't happen to be using -safemode in the CMDln.txt would you?
pokrishka
No, I'm not using safe mode. That camera is fine, when I drive on keyboard, but when I use the wheel it's impossible to get an all-time free right hand. UPDATED: Fixed the sound lag. Turned hardware acceleration to minimum in control panel.
pokrishka
I still can't save the settings. Is there a commandline way to set traffic amount?
