Helicopter Climb *Final Mission*

found the solution.

turn on clip capture if it is off.try this worked for me.

That didn't work for me with it on or off.

What I did was as soon as you grab the helicopter, pause the game, start recording fraps and then restart the game so you are recording while you try to climb into the helicopter. If you have the free version you can only record for 30 seconds so you can't start recording until you're actually holding onto the bottom of the helicopter. I have the full version so I can record as long as I want, but I don't see how it would be any different.  I also have no idea why this works for me. I had the same issue as all of you before trying this and that wasn't my goal. I was just trying to document what it looks like when you can't climb in. And every time I try to record it I could climb in. It is a paradox.

THIS WORKED FOR ME!!!! icon14.gif I did just as you said and it worked!!! I had my doubts when I downloaded Fraps, but once I jumped onto the chopper, I hit ESC to pause the game, hit F9 to start the video recording, then I hit ESC again to go back intto the game and it was easy as pie to get in. I had to tap the space bar quickly, but nowhere near as hard or as fast as before.

I know that I'm just repeating everything Captin Obvious said, but that's exactly what I did, and it worked. I highly suggest trying this step if you're having trouble getting into the chopper. It might work for you and it might not, but it doesn't hurt to download fraps and try it. Just make sure you open Fraps BEFORE starting GTA IV, just so you don't have to Alt-Tab out.

OHHH YEAH BABY ... i did it .... tnx to RedOctober and Captin Obvious. Fraps is the solution. I did it from the first try. It's so easy now. OHHH YEAH ... Thanks guys.

where can i get fraps?? what is that?? i have the original dvd of the game?? can anyone explain me??

Here: http://www.fraps.com/download.php

Download and install the app. You can only record 30sec clips with unregistered version.

- Run Fraps (It will be on background when launched)

- Go to the final mission, and when Niko grabs helicopter, hit F9 from your keyboard.

Fraps start to record your gameplay, tap space key fast repeatedly until Niko gets in the helicopter.

- Hit F9 again to stop recording.

I´m not sure why FRAPS does the trick, but I guess it somehow changes the speed to slower as it is quite a resource hog.

+1 on the Fraps solution. Thanks for the tip guys and gals.

Heck it was a very easy button tapping to get into the helicopter after the bug was gone. Finished the mission and in true GTA IV PC bug fashion, the game crashed after the credits rolled and controls returned to the game. Oh well...

Also, in my i7/HD 4870 setup, I found the patch 1.0.3 buggier than 1.0.2, with more frequent crashes and slower load times.

I hope everyone will have the good sense to ignore soyinka he has been suitably reprimanded for that childish post. It would be a shame for me to have to reprimand anyone else. Just ignore the guy now and get on with the topic in hand.

I think it's a problem with how much FPS the game gets. In past GTAs, the game has to run at the rate that it is programmed to run at, in this case 30 FPS. Any higher or lower and the game will mess up on timing. There are MANY things that depends on timing, like driving, swimming, countdown timers, and possibly button mashing. This was a problem since GTA3 (maybe a problem since GTA2 but I haven't checked). I don't think there is any fix for that.

Well, I give my thumbs up for the Fraps solution. icon14.gif

I also tried to do it the "normal" way and just kept failing at the climbing part.

So, I tried it with Fraps limiting the FPS and bam, in one go, not even that much button mashing needed.

Bit of a shame that it was needed to do it this way, but at least I was finally able to finish the game. (Granted I am now going to do the "Deal" way).

I have the same problem running on Vista Home Premium SP1 with Nvidia and 8 GB RAM. I'd like to try the fraps rather than to manually change the framerate. Wish me luck. Btw, you get to climb in the helicopter with either ending. For me, so far unsuccessful. Very frustrating. Though some have said this game is badly written, I would like to say it's been an awesome ride! user posted image

Uh, In this mission and GTA IV, it's easy to do them tappin's. If ya really think this is hard, go and play Prince Of Persia 4 for Xbox 360. That's hard tappin' for u.

Only certain people have this issue. If you have it, no matter how fast you tap it doesn't work. If it works for you, you won't understand this topic.

Yeah this is REALLY frustrating sad.gif

No matter how hard I tap the "A" button on my XBox360 controller (PC) I still cannot get Nico into the helicopter, all that happens is the camera view changes sometimes and then he gets dropped off in the water sad.gif

I am going to see what happens when I enable V-sync

It's really annoying as up until this point I really have enjoyed the missions and the game, to me this "tap button repeatedly" nonsense is woeful shambolic throwback to the 80's Olympic games on the commodore 64!

Count me in as one of those hit with this bug. I'm D/Ling FRAPS.

Most have mentioned the view changing during the frantic button pressing, same here and I think it's a clue.

When I saw this, it wigged me out because I knew the JUMP key had nothing to do with views and I immediately thought something is not right

Niko can't get into the chopper because the jump key becomes a view key. That will be a R* bug.

Any other time in the game hitting the JUMP key (no matter which key is used) does not do this.

Edit: Captain_Obvis-456 gets a whole bag of cookies for sharing the FRAPS solution for this bug. I now have two savegames, one for each story version. I wonder if there is anything significant in the difference.

I had the same problem using the XBOX-360 controller on my PC. I tried the FRAPS solution:

* Before the mission starts make sure FRAPS is running by noting the yellow FPS indicator in the corner of the screen.

* After Niko makes the motorcycle jump toward the helicopter just press the F9 key.

* You know that the FRAPS Video Capture has started when the yellow FPS indicator has turned red.

* I then had no problem getting onboard the helicopter by pressing the A-button on the controller.

If you are quick there is no need to pause the game. Just make sure that after you press F9 that the FPS indicator has turned red.
