K^2
On one hand, I can understand the cop. It's not so much the stereotyping as being scared. US Government keeps trying to convince everyone that they and their children will be killed by a Muslim man with a long beard who will shout some religious praise in native tongue just before releasing trigger of a pipe bomb. Nobody seriously thinks that all Muslims are like that, but they don't want to take chances with ones that yell something in Arabic. On another hand, not knowing what "Salaam" means is pretty retarded, especially for a cop with such a fear of Muslim terrorists. Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.
Monuriki.
My friend almost got arressted the other day just because he was shouting hello to his friend in arabic. A cop just came behind him and made him go down on the floor. Then he questioned all of us aswell for knowing this guy. We were in the train station in earl's court. And we were meeting up with imran a friend of ours....and then something random like that happens...i mean wtf man anyone had similar experiances? Don't be an arab. lol lol. Why SHOUT hello? Unless he was lost or something. well ill tell you why! he was a friend that we hadn't seen in a long time and we all shouted and ran to greet other while shouting " salaam! Salaam!" and for some reason the police officer got scared. Mabey it was the look on our face. And what do you mean don't be an arab...i'm proud of it. Maybe it was to do with the fact that you were running through a train station shouting in Arabic.

jimmy.
One of my best friends got arrested for possession of three f*cking joints during a traffic stop during the summer. This was in rural Texas, an awful part of the country for drug laws. He may be facing 6 months incarceration, but he's a pretty straight shooter (at least on paper) with a clean record, so I hope he can just go on probation. Either way, it sounds like he's going to have to stay within the state for at least several months. Hooray for decriminization efforts and f*ck Texas. Edited January 18, 2009 by jimmy. Girish
Nope, I have never been in jail and I have gone to a police station only once to file an FIR as my dad crashed our brand new car on a tree and he didn't have a permanent license. So, I had to appear at the police station saying it was me who crashed the car so that we could get the insurance money.

Tetsuo2501
I've been to jail once. I was arrested in 2005, during an Agent Orange show, some drunk bitch got up on stage and threw a beer bottle at their bassists face, he wasn't injured, but the bad decided to stop the show. Small fights started to break out, which eventually led outside where people were throwing beer bottles, and rocks at the locals, and other bars. Also in early 2006 i was put into holding for almost ten hours because I told a cop to go f*ck himself, ended up getting a $270 ticket.

Randall Flagg
I got caught on a friday night rolling aorund with 2 more people then the car could hold(chevy malibu, holds 5, so seven people were in their) and a pitbull. Was drinking tequila. On my way to drop off this one dude someone else knew, who I had scored some crystal from and a pipe. I really think he was a snitch. Well on are way to drop him off at this food 4 less he wanted to be droppe doff at, I get pulled over. Reason being I had a license plate light out. They took me out, questioned me, slowly took every one else out and doing the same. Alltogther 3 sheriff cars and a suv showed up, about 4 sheriffs were their. I had thrown the crystal under my seat. I wasn't to smart at this time in my life and I was pretty wasted so I told them they could search the car and said I didn't know if their were drugs in their or not. A bottle of jose tequila, a bag of weed, 3 pipes, were the first things they found. Searched harder and they found the two baggies with the dope. They never found the dope pipe, I actually found that in my trunk about 6 months later, with crystal crack-backed and still in it. Everyone took resonsibility for the other sh*t. They let them all go. My car gets towed, I get possesion of a controlled substance, and taken to jail. It was a friday night, so I ended up being stuck their till monday afternoon. Now this whole time Im pretty drunk/spun. Pretty well twisted. I go through the process, they check my pockets, take my shoe laces. I go to the waiting room. I get called up. Give them a lot of bs answers and just act like a f*ck (Im pretty down at the moment, thinking basically my life is over). They ask me if I feel suicidal I say "Yeah you butch dyke, I would have hung myself by now if you hadn't taken my shoelaces!". They take my mugshot. They ask me if Im suicidal, again, I give them a slur of words and curses. Well I get taken to the padded room, told to strip naked, spread my cheeks etc, and they leave me in their with a safety blanket. In the morning I get to go to j-wing(j cats) crazies, weirdos and people not fit for other sections. Get my own cell and a 23 hour lockdown. I read "The monkey wrench gang" while in their and some random Dean Koontz(i tihnk..) novel I can't remember about some cop who takes peyote to solve a crime. Food really wasn't half bad. I get out go to court, get a public defender. They can't prove that the crystal was mine, nor did they give me a DUI, just possesion of a controlled substance. Anyone in their could have put that under my seat. I get a deal, do 40 hours community service and attend 20 NA/AA meetings. sh*t gets dismissed, no criminal record. Swarz
Nope, I've never been to prison/jail. Put a good few folks in there though. To date I've only regretted nicking one person. All the other little fecks thoroughly deserved it. @ Original Poster - You've gotta think of it from a worst case scenario point of view. For example, if you were a terrorist about to launch an attack: Cop noticed terrorists running through station shouting in Arabic moments before attack and did nothing! You wouldn't have been lifted unless you'd done something wrong, but doing something like that on the underground in these days will get this sort of attention. --- AMF --- -= A joke is a very serious thing - Winston Churchill =-

SHXC
I was arrested when I was 14/15 after a fight in the street. I haven't been to jail though, and the lawyer dude, whatever they're called over here was free because of my age. Again, like someone else said, it's like a doctor's office in there. They took my age, height, weight, and took a photo of me and a finger print. . Because of a fight.

Machida
I stole some flag from somewhere and got caught. Only a night in a cell though. Sounds suspiciously like you were after a drunken souvenir. Were ya? I've done that. When it's been a particularly good night you tend to feel a little memento is in order. In the same night I've managed to yoink a street cone, a pub sign, a wind charm shaped like a fish from someones back garden, let myself in the house belonging to previously mentioned back garden and cook myself up a lovely token breakfast of eggs and bacon before order myself a cab from the kitchen phone. Yet the closest I've ever been to getting lifted was when I was held for around four hours or so for whacking a policeman who was also my roommate at the time. I was drunk and he was annoying and ginger, so you know, both deserved it really. Edited January 19, 2009 by Machida

OH NO
No and too many. Closest I came was they tried to pin some bullsh*t football violence charge on me, talking about year long sentences (for the worst offenders) for incitement and criminal damage etc etc. Nothing came of it , as expected. They were just on a crack down at the time and looking into scare tactics I think. Also I was innocent.
MindCorrupt
Been arrested in town a few times and thrown in lockup. Then thrown in the lockup in the courthouse for 5 hours because I was a day late (apparently they had a bench warrant out for my arrest). All up I reckon ive paid 2 and half grand in fines all up just for disorderly conduct in the clubbing district in my city. Cops over here are just fine enforcers though, if they get a chance to rob you of your hard earned cash...they will.
