MVnomics
I had to reinstall my operating system (WinXP SP3) after I had gotten about half way through GTA IV. After successfully reinstalling the OS, GTA4 would not start, stating that the OS didn't recognize the app, or something like that. No problem, all my Microsoft office apps did the same thing, one must simply reinstall the app. So i did that with GTA4 as well. And of course that worked - GTA4 fired up no problemo. But I don't have access to my saved game. Where is the save game file? Oh, I should mention that the OS is installed on my C: hard drive. GTA4 is installed on D:, so reinstalling the OS didn't affect the GTA installation. In fact before reinstalling the OS, I copied the My Documents directory (including the Rockstar Games subdirectory) to a safe spot on the D: drive. I looked there first, but that Rockstar Games/GTA IV subdirectory is empty except for a User Music folder. Girish
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\ And oh, searching first always helps.
MVnomics
As I stated in my post, there was no save game subdirectory in that location. Nor in fact did I get any search results when I searched this forum with the key word combos (save game file) or (save game location). Guess I'll be repeating some missions... buzbegone
You can't find those files? What a pity Is the "Show hidden files and folders" box checked? (tools/folder options/view) There-in lies your problem
anus
If you haven't run the game atleast once, the folders won't be created. You have two options: 1. Create the folders manually. 2. Run the game and start a new game and save, doesn't matter when, just save the game. Now the folders will be created, just go and paste your saves now. ShawnTRD
Where is it for Vista?
anus
For Vista its: "X:/Users/(Your user name)/AppData/Local/Rockstar Games/GTA IV". Where "X' is your drive letter, for e.g. "C:/Users/(Your user name)/AppData/Local/Rockstar Games/GTA IV".
