brandonv
I just installed GTA 4 tonight, and couldn't believe how mushy the steering and vehicle control is. I feel like I'm driving on ice. I can do a complete 180 with the handbrake at approximately 10-15 MPH. Is this the way the game is supposed to be or is there a way to fix this? BorgDroneX
its the way the game is the way R* made it and i agree the controls/steering/physics are sh*te, when braking you skid way too much way too far its ridiculus but hey its R* its GTA so what can you do, with everything R* and GTa you just have to grin and bear it and get on with playing the game
Jc84144
I find it hard to believe you was only going 10mph. I struggle to do that going the same speed as the traffic (presumably 30). Maybe you should download a speed gage mod. As for it handling like "ice" it's called realism. In real life people slow down a lot for turning corners, other wise that would happen. Also in real life you don't use your handbrake when moving, and those that do regret it. Go try it if you don't believe me, just make sure no one is around... it's your funeral. Maybe you should actually think about how fast you are going. Anyone who thinks it's unrealistic has never tried it for real. Even watching some youtube videos of teens showing off drifting around it's pretty obvious GTA 4 handling is a lot more realistic than it ever was. If you're after unrealistic handing, and being able to turn 90 degrees without breaking at 60mph go play saints row or an older GTA.
lorand
well, adleast its not as bad as the driving in crysis... now thats a game you feel like your driving on ice
GTAMonkey2012
The driving in this game is superb, are you using keys? If so the physics in this game and key use = not great. Get a 360 controller and you can pretty much work it through heavy traffic with hardly a dent. The trick it to slow as you turn using less acceleration (which cant be done smooth on keys) and then simply tap the break softly into the turn, handbreak is useful on sharp hair pin turns. To me it handles pretty well like I would expect driving in a city, seems to me your hammering 0-100 on/off keys and assuming it wont skid much. Was on a mission chasing someone down and it was far more enjoyable not even catching him and tearing around trying to handle the car correctly and getting nice turns in to cut off some time to catch up (360 controller mind you). Better than GTA SA "pram on wheels" thats for sure. Edited January 18, 2009 by GTAMonkey2012

After all the complaints i thought the cars would be impossible to handle but they handle pretty well and make the driving quite fun. I have no problems using the WASD keys and shooting with the mouse at the same time and it doesnt seem any harder than SA. Love the GTA IV cars . shivanandrs
Maybe you should actually think about how fast you are going. This is the key, it helps alot to know or at least have an idea of how fast you are going. It also helps too if you know what the car you are driving is capable of doing. bobfossil
the handling is awesome! Much more realistic, and quite a lot like my Vice city custom handling set up, especially the police cars (more tail slide and softer suspension) feels much more rewarding to drive smoothly or power slide effectively. jjs.grip
Check Mod Showroom/Vehicles. There's number of handling mods released. Also GTAGarage hosts multiple handling mods. Edited January 21, 2009 by jjs.grip
heat84
I was just driving the Comet in the last Brucie mission and its handling seemed SA like. But other than that, I'm slowly getting used to it. Why don't you try the motorcycles. They handle better than the cars. The only thing with them is that when you try to lean back or forward and steer at the same time the bike starts to go out of control. In previous GTA"s you could wheelie around turns if I remember correctly. Not with this game I don't think. Yeah I know, realism. I'm actually happy to see all the realism in this game that wasn't in the previous GTA's. Except for the cops I think. I was hoping they'd be smarter than they were in the previous GTA's, but I'm not so sure about that anymore. THEY CAN SWIM! Let me ask you something... have you ever actually driven a REAL car? The handling in this game is perfectly fine. Just because you can't hit a 90-degree turn using the handbrake while going 100mph doesn't mean it's bad. The handling works just like it should and pretty much just like it does in reality. PacMaan
The handling for the American cars is correct. They only like driving in straight lines.
