Chris2342
I finally thought I was going to get to the point where I was going to be able to play the game, when everythingvwent wrong. I pressed play, a window popped up an then about a minute later it closed and I got this message, SecuROM has encountered a problem and needs to close. The game never started, I just got some black window then this problem pops up and quits everything. Why am I getting a SecuROM error report everytime I want to open the game? Please help me! 640509-040147
The game is (I guess) protected by SecuROM technology. Are you using any cracks or Image Mounting/Emulation software, like DAEMON Tools? If so, you do not belong here. Did you try reinstalling the game? Is the Play DVD all okay? Chris2342
For your information 640509-040147, i am not some cheapskate asshole who pirates games off the internet illegally . I bought this game in a shop 2 weeks ago and i just want to get it working. I paid £35 for this game and am pissed off that everything i do results in another failure. Ill try re-installing it in a mo, ill keep you updated.
heat84
If all else fails, use a crack to bypass Securom (hint:razor1911). The purpose of Securom is to prevent piracy. Since you legally own the game, you shouldn't have any moral issues about disabling SecuROM. You'll have to live with seeing the Razor1911 splash screen 2 times when the game starts up (though you can remove that splash screen from razor1911.dll with reshack). There's another group or two that has cracked the game, maybe they're less egotistical than Razor and didn't put a splash screen in their crack. I apologize in advance for causing CharmlessCharlie to lock this thread. I only broke the rule word wise, not spirit wise though Edited January 17, 2009 by heat84

GammaRaptor
Reinstall the game see if that helps. Or put the cd into the game with the original exe .
One-time
Using a crack to get your previously bought game working isn't illegal.
heat84
I was just reading another thread that the problem could be that you're running virtual drives. If you are disable them and see what happens. I have 2 Nero virtual drives though and am not having any problems. At all the ppl getting the secu error issue. You have a securom copy protection issue. you need to disable/shutdown any virtual drives or copying programs such as nero which may be used to emulate or replicate a disc. hope this helps
DrFPS
chris2342, update the firmware for your DVD drive. That should fix it up
juscal
Uninstall the game, delete any GTA IV related folders that remain, then reinstall. Should fix the SecuROM issue.
modmaker
I also had lots of problems with SecuROM. The bugger accused me of trying to run from a backup-copy and asked me to kindly insert the original disc, which was, of course, already in the player. If I was lucky the game started after a couple (usually 8-15) of tries. (Latest of everything, including DVD-firmware, yep, tried that too, a [email protected],4GHz, 2gb RAM, ATI 4850 1gb). A couple of emails back and forth with SecuROM-support, a few weeks later and after trying a few different versions of LaunchGTAIV.exe presented to me by SecuROM-support (different versions than the one shipping on the DVD) now the game starts on the first try - no cry. Now, if only Rockstar decided to upgrade this slidehow excuse for a game from at least Powerpoint2002 to Powerpoint 2007, I'd also be a happy gamer. But I suppose I can't blame SecuROM for that...
