Omnia sunt Communia
Are you kidding me? Chicago is more famous than New York City for it's link to the Italian-American Mafia! Pretty much every gangster film that has ever come out has either been set in New York City, or Chicago. How can you say that there's not enough to parody there? I think you really need to do your research before making posts like these. You are making yourself seem dim-witted, which really isn't going to help you in the long run. For future refernece: List Of Films Set In Chicago List Of Films Set In Boston List Of Films Set In Detroit Just because there's not as many, doesn't mean they can't do it. Rockstar are only going to use about one or two films to parody per-game. The game is about crime, not movie parodies. Grand Theft Auto IV's storyline hardly parodied, or even paid homage, to any films.
Algonquin Assassin
Another city I'm really surprised R* haven't considered using is Washington D.C. Obvious parodies would be the president, and other politics, but yeah I think D.C would be a great place to set a GTA game.

I wouldn't mind Washington D.C. as long as they have Rites Of Spring and Bad Brains on the radio. Seriously, a parody of D.C. might be a good idea. We'd obviously have to concentrate on the criminal side of Washington, as it is GTA, but we could have a deep political sub-plot. Maybe your character helps a crooked politician run for major or senator?

A game based on a modern Chicago would tottally suck. Have you heard of Chicago's gun shot detecting cameras? Plus, if they took GTA there, it would be more like another GTA: SA. And as for D.C., that would be very unlikely to ever happen... to sensitive. The first thing most people would want to do is blow up the white house or some sh*t like that. I don't know about Boston, or care, but Detroit wouldn't work so well either. Detroit would be the same thing as Chicago: either based on the 20s or as a GTA: SA. chngdman
To the argument that this game is more about crime than movies: um, no. It's more about sarcasm, stereotypes, and satire. It only uses crime as one piece of the puzzle. Because criminals are usually the dumb lot that fit the description, even if your protagonist is anti-drug and all of that like they always are... GTA is about "wrong guy, wrong place and time, surrounded by f*cking idiots who happen to have something over your head (whether it be a temper, a mob, or just money that you want) And IV, as well as the other games, made heavy use of films for mission titles, scenarios, and even some of the supporting cast over time. LOL @ GTA pre-1980. The culture didn't exist then - it was different. It meant something else then. That's why Sam Houser did Mafia: Lost Heaven. Because the demand was there for an old time gangster flick game, but there was no place for it in GTA. Because GTA is deeper than those disagreeing currently see. I know, it's hard to swallow, it was for me at one time. But here I am, a bit wiser than i was before, and more in tune with artistic expression. And to the one who said Chicago is more famous than New York. If you really think that, you are a fool, I'm sorry, I really am, but NYC is the most notable place on the entire planet. @Jack: The Departed was that Jack Nicholson? I don't think I saw it yet, any good? Worth the watch? Edited January 18, 2009 by chngdman
Algonquin Assassin
@Jack: The Departed was that Jack Nicholson? I don't think I saw it yet, any good? Worth the watch? Oh definitely. It also has Mark Walhberg, Matt Damon, and Leonardo DiCaprio. If you like movies based around the Irish mob, and Police you'll love The Departed. yess
When we talk about the next GTA, we talk about a new city or and adon to LC. But what about the time set. VC was set in the 80's and that made it different. The vibe and miami vice style was awsome, but the town was boring. Will they continue in the the same timeperiod or go back to the 80's. I would like to see a new game set in the 80's. Outside of the US could be Hong Kong, old english colony, or Sydney. xNamexTakenx
I think all of the GTA games should stay in America. It just wouldn't be right if it took place outside of America. However, I wouldn't mind a Grand Theft Auto: Greater Toronto Area. But, everybody would probably disagree with me.
