Puto
Do you have a period (.) in your in your windows account user name ?If so, create a new one Nope, I don't, it's just a simple name with no symbols. I did a search in other save game problems around here but none of the ones I saw was similar to mine, that's why I created this topic.
640509-040147
Did you look for the GTA San Andreas User Files folder in your My Documents folder? Is your My Documents read only/locked?
Puto
Did you look for the GTA San Andreas User Files folder in your My Documents folder? Is your My Documents read only/locked? There is no User Files folder in my Documents and the folder it's not "Read Only" (didn't get what you meant by "locked"). What annoys me the most is that the game worked perfectly on my old XP computer (until the computer itself eventualy broke) and now I can't get it to work. Girish
I suggest you create a new administrator user account, reinstall the game and delete the gta_sa.set file. You may not need to reinstall the game after creating a new user account, but if you still cannot save, then you'll have to reinstall.
Puto
Well, if that's the only solution I think I rather uninstal the game for good than creating a new user account just to play it Thank you all anyway for your help!
radioman
Are you playing under the "Administrator" account, if not then that might be the problem. Also, in Vista the saves are in the User Files Folder under "Documents"-if on XP compatibilty ot no compatibility mode at all, and in the Public folder if using 98 compatibilty mode. I have Vista Premium, and the User Account Control did not interfere with the game at all. try deleting the .set file and see if that helps. Are you using a "purchased" copy-one bought in a store, or a downloaded copy? If it is a downloaded copy, then that may be the problem. Hope this helps. I'm running the game in Windows Vista Home Premium just like is shown in the specs in the first post and in an administrator account, my game copy it's original bought in the store. Where can I find that .set file? EDIT - Ok found it, tryied it, and didn't work, the error persists. Edited January 18, 2009 by Puto
radioman
Have you tried running the game in Compatibilty mode? ie. windows XP, 98, etc. Just right click on the GTA San Andreas .exe and select the compatibilty tab to use compatibilty mode. Also, do you have enough "free" disc space on your "C" drive? If not you won't be able to store the saves, thus preventing the game from being saved. Hope this helps. Didn't work, and space it's not a problem since the computer it's brand new, didn't have the time to fill it up yet Btw, according to the error message the problem may be the save directory, could someone give me all the folders from SA that there is in the Documents folder, like "GTA San Andres User Files" and all its subfolders, I'll just try creating them manually and try again. That won't help. The saves have to be present along with the gta_sa.set file. Locate the set file and try putting saves in there and see if they work. The .set file in in my game directory, I didn't change its place, even if I delete the file it appears there again. I just downloaded a random save game and placed it in the same folder than gta_sa.set and... well, the save didn't even appear in the load game list. Girish
Then I think you should really try creating a new user account. It's not going to hurt you, trust me.

Girish
Now I'm really starting to think this has got something to do with the Home edition of Vista. I've heard so many users complaining of numerous issues with their game on this Home edition. I have Vista Ultimate 32-bit and not a single game has ever refused to work properly. The f*cked up hierarchy of Vista doesn't help either. A Long time back someone suggested that reinstalling the game to My Documents folder worked for him. May be you could give that a shot too since almost nothing else seems to be working.

Actually, I have Vista Home Premium on my desktop, and it has never refused a single game save(I have v.2), so it might be a V.1 game problem? I can even use downloaded saves without a problem, obviously, since I use the Chain Game saves all the time. @topic starter, do you have SP1 for Vista? If not try updating to SP1 from the "Windows Update" program that is included with Vista.-It is a lot faster to update that way, than from the Microsoft.com site directly. Didn't see the first topic until after posted. Are all your Driver's up to date?

I was just stating that more people with the Home/Basic editions of Vista have complained about various issues as compared to the Ultimate edition. If the OP has a v1 game, he could try the v1.01 patch. If not, I'm out of ideas.
radioman
The reason I mentioned the game's version might have something to do with it, is because only V.2 might be compatible with Vista, as I noticed when I was at Wal-Mart one time I checked the box on the game, which was the second edition(V2), and it now has Vista requirements on the box, whereas it did not when I bought the game. So if the original poster has V.1, he may have to have the V1.01 patch to make it work properly. If not, i'm also out of ideas.
Puto
So, i installed the patched and started a new game for like, the 15th time and the result is... (some drum roll would be nice right now...) ... it didn't work! This is really anoying, I wasn't angry before but right now, and seeing that everything we try just doesn't work out, I'm really starting to get a little pissed with this.
