mr_bungle
Try installing it to your HDD. If that doesn't work, then I don't know.

4 Bagger
Mine has done that before and a red light showed up instead of a green one. UPS will take care of it.

I think the problem is what Furnace said, you can't always trust in used games. Yeah. you should probably just get a new xbox. you should try hard drive maintenance too. maybe that will work, but i think it screwed up some of my saves on saints row. look it up on youtube caus there a certain procedure to perform maintenance
Slamman
I made a thread to field similar problems for Playstation 3 (PS3) owners, as I am one, for some time. I didn't or don't recall having the freezing I associated with GTA San An and my PS2, which happened a few times where I logged a long play time and it froze before saving the game. Sadly, the PS2 systems I owned BOTH died, then were stolen from my car.... Like the thief would have any luck with those! haha Anywho, the system I bought was over $400 USD and it was refurbished. I bought Uncharted, the exclusive for PS3 and played that first, no problems at all, outside of the character getting stuck in tight locations, I saw that happen as well with Niko in GTA's Liberty...a common programming flaw of these games I suppose. BUT when everything freezes but the audio, you know there's an issue. I lost all function and had to flip the switch or eject the gaming disc, on some occasion, very few....the game system went back to the menu in a few moments... Other times it remained frozen in the last state with the graphics locked and music that was loaded playing, often till it looped or stopped. Because Naughty Dog claimed early on that Uncharted could be made for Xbox but that it used the PS3's HDD liberally, I hadn't thought to include that as a contributing factor, but just a day ago, sure enough, Uncharted froze up and the control was all lost, same affect with GTA 4. I was seeing GTA 4 freeze in a matter of minutes, much less then 45, and could not get the missions to engage or even half complete! (the deal/revenge stage of the game) My suggestion is viewed from the perspective that I've tried all manner of disc cleaning and it's not helping, if the content is reading off the BluRay/DVD Rom, then the pickup is having the issue. The diode laser pickup assembly is having errors too great to correct, I suspect,or the motor could also be an issue. As a refurbished unit, I have no idea if the drive was faulty before, but having tried everything but a system switch, I have to assume it's that. I also toyed with the idea of trading copies of the game, but having both games freeze, I am sure it's the optical drive at this point! Have a system cleaning and report back.
