BLOOMING CROSSHAIR MOD

by Topeira

the "blooming crosshair mod" changes a few things about GTA IV:

1) It removes the DOT in the center of the crosshair and make the circle larger.

Because of this it is harder to Aim with pin point accuracy.

2) It makes the ARs circle smaller than the other weapons so they feels more accurate.

3) It gives a larger bloom for the ARs so the recoil\movement makes it slightly harder to hit while moving or while firing long bursts.

4) It removes the health indication from the crosshair so it's harder to tell who u just

killed and to tell a friend from foe.

5) It makes the AI more accurate.

6) changes the crosshair to a 4 arrow crosshair.

What this mod DOESN'T do:

1) it doesnt make the weapons less accurate. they shoot in the exact middle of the crosshair. always.

Installation:

copy these files to Grand theft auto IV\common\data folder

please back up your files before installation. u might not like what i did tounge.gif

EDIT (18.01.09) - A Tactical crosshair:

it looks a lil bit like in more tactical games, therefore the name :

looks like this:

thanks for trying this MOD.

special thanks to rebel_36

last version - V2 - updated 01.23.09

change log:

* even more bloom of the crosshair.

* tactical crosshair added to the mod. u dont have to DL separately.

* less magazines are available for every weapon. u can carry only 5 nades and 3 rockets.

* blind-fire fire rate lowered so give blind-firing less of an advantage.

VIDEO of what it does (without the new crosshair):

please try this MOD up and give opinions and ideas.

i am so annoyed that if i change weapon's accuracy to be less accurate and behave something like the crosshair in this mod than the AI becomes SO inaccurate that the lose of challege isn't worth the benefits.

ALSO -

If any talented modder knows how to make the weapons actually behave like the crosshair in this MOD (be inaccurate in the same fashion the crosshair here is) than let me know. I'd love to see a mod like that, though i dont think it's possible.

Omg awesome !! Finally crosshair recoil mod !!! PinkPanzer should ask you for permission to add your mod to his realistic guns mod ! It would be awesome.

read carefull - there is NO difference in recoil or accuracy. NONE.

only the crosshair changed. the guns are DEAD accurate.

pinkpanzer change the accuracy of the guns but made the AI less accurate too.

i tried that myself but i dont like the way the AI cant hit me with a M4 from 6 feet away.

all we need is a trainer that can give the player the unused weapon slots, unused0 and episodic_1 - episodic_24, then the rest can be done in the weapon data file

also i would love to change the crosshair to something like a CROSS with no middle (like 4 small lines or 4 small arrows poiting inwards) instead of a circle but i dont know how.

as is the blooming circles doesnt look too good but that's all i got ATM.

i would love to get some help from someone who knows how to extract the crosshair from the game and willing to send me a file i can edit in photoshop and put it back into the game.

i rather tell you how to do it cause its easy.

-download sparkIV

-go to C:\Programs\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\pc\models\cdimages, copy vehicles.img and put it on your desktop

-go to C:\Programs\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\pc and copy the texture folder, put it on your desk

you will only work with these 2 copies so that youre not messing with files that the game uses.

-open your texture folder and rename hud.wtd to bus.wtd

-open vehicles.img with sparkIV, click import and import the bus.wtd which used to be hud.wtd

(you do this because you cant open hud.wtd with sparkIV, it needs to be within an img)

-now click the bus.wtd and click on edit, youll see the textures that are inside of it

-scroll down till you find hud_crosshair and export it

-edit the crosshair in photoshop and save again as png, then import it back into the bus.wtd

and finally export bus.wtd to your desktop, rename it to hud.wtd and paste it into your textures game folder (make backup!)

oh and dont forget to edit the alpha of the crosshair texture as well.

where are these slots?

how do i use this tool?

usage:

run game, alt-tab to windows, run the trainer, in the left box you choose a slot and click on get, makes the trainer read what weapon you carry in the slot you selected, then in the right box you choose the weapon you want to use, for example episodic_1 and click on set, now youll have it ingame.

note that your weapons need to be defined in your weaponinfo.xml, for example you want to use a glock that is very inaccurate but you want the glock that the cops carry to be 100% accurate.

to do this you just copy the whole weapon info of the glock (PISTOL) and then use episodic_1 for its weapon type instead of PISTOL

then you can modify the stats of your episodic_1 glock and use the trainer to give it to the player.

i find the trainer a bit uncomfortable, lots of alt tabbing involved and my game gfx are getting screwed imediately, we should ask a scripter to make a script where we can just hit 1 button for each episodic weapon and itll replace whatever the player currently has in his hands.

ill see who im gonna ask, if someone made this i could re-release my real weapons mod, this time with accuracy that doesnt mess with the one of the AI and maybe even merge it with your mod here topeira

if u could do that i will be so grateful clothes will fall off...

if there is a mod that replaces the current weapons with the extra slots and players can do a bit of XML editing to determine what weapons are these andd how they work (so ppl like me can place their modified weapons in there) that would be sooooo awwweeeesome.

p.s. - thanks to your help, rebel, i managed to get a crosshair i like. smile.gif u can see it in the screenshot. 10X a bunch

hehe that crosshair looks really cool, gj

i sent a pm to dualcore, the author of the simple native trainer about a better working trainer for weapon slots but he didnt reply (yet)

send it again.

lets nag! smile.gif

i should PM him too...

meanwhile - i updated the mod a lil bit if someone wants to try it.

  • 10 months later...

I think I found the mod you're talking about (http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=414083), but it only has the ak47 reskin, no new crosshair.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was included in other mods, since it was released nearly a year ago. But I can't find any working links so any help would be appreciated.
