Virse X Guide to Solution!

Do you ever get slow downs when playing Grand Theft Auto 4 for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes? and Does

it get ridiculously frustarding!!(yes frustarding) when you either have to close the game, or do some memory turbo Ram

defragging,

Well This is a simple guide to solving this so called memory leak, or i would like to call it Cpu cut backs.

Warning this only may work for Intel processors, If your computer explodes inside with candy i am not responsible

but might be responsible for eating some of it, USE GUIDE AT OWN RISK

Alright when you launch gta 4 and make some cars go boom, run over fat slobes that make dents in your cars, or

just basicly kill anyone in your way, your Cpu calculates these things and has a cycle to continue to Calculate running

over fat people. This is what i found out using a program.

When playing more then 10 minutes i would automatically get a memory leak or shuttering and we some how got the idea that

our Memory is not enough for the game to use its full potential.( They usually tell you, your processor is weak Sh*t or

you need a better graphics card) Not true at all.

Acer Aspire 6920g (laptop)

Processor: Intel Centrio Duo t5550 1.83ghz

Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce 9500m GS

Memory: 3GB with 4gb ready boast (it runs a bit better with ready boast)

I can run this game at a playable rate No shuttering nor "memory leaks" due to this discovery.

RMCLOCK Program is to thank for this blessing

I have used Rmclock to Overview my Processors Performance while Playing Grand theft auto 4 and seeing if it had anything

to do with the shuttering/ memory leaking.

These are my low power settings:

user posted image

These are my Max settings right before i play Grand Theft Auto 4:

user posted image

Now i load Grand Theft Auto 4 and wait until i start to Shutter.

When i suddenly start to shutter like mad and i have no option but to press esc and either Alt+f4 that sh*t or window key

it.

I Window Key Grand theft auto so it runs in the background and i check to see my RMClock Specs, and these are what came

out:

user posted image

My Throttle has gone down by half of what it was before playing Grand theft auto 4.(I believe the throttle is how much the

CPU cycles are per second)

When i played with some configurations with Rm clock, i now play a Rock star sh*t free game.

CONFIGURATIONS

THESE WERE DONE WITH AN INTEL CPU, AMD CPU's MAY VARY!

First of all download RMClock using this URL=> RightMark

http://cpu.rightmark.org/download.shtml

and Find Files located under "(RMCLOCK)"

And for 64bit OS versions download the following rmclock system file and copy replace in the Rmclock directory after

installing

URL=>Megaupload

Open up RMclock and browse your settings to get used to the functions of this program,

Step 1:

In the side click "Advanced CPU Settings" and check at the bottom to see your current feature is between (Auto-detect

,Desktop, and mobile) If Desktop is not selected check it in and apply to restart your application. (THIS RAISES YOUR

VOLTAGE FOR FASTER PERFORMANCE)

user posted image

Step 2:

Click "Management" on the side and configure your settings to mine below in the picture and apply. (Make sure your using

your max settings)

user posted image

Step 3:

Click "Advanced CPU Settings" and on the top click "Throttling". WARNING BEFORE CHANGING

ANYTHING, DO NOT MAKE "Throttle Duty cycle" BELOW 50% UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING

Step 3A:

Methods to locking your throttle speed is to check in "Lock throttling settings" so that your max throttling speed will

never change.

user posted image

Step 3B:

If your throttle still changes use the following settings in the picture below.

user posted image

Your throttle speed will be 87.5% of the maximum with guaranteed no change.

Results for 3B:

user posted image

Now once you have applied everything, go into your "RMCLOCK" Directory and double click "RMCLOCKHTL.EXE" (this will

stabilize your cpu speed)

user posted image

Now your done configuring RMclock and Create a commandline.txt in your GTA 4 Directory with the commandline "-memrestrict

629145600" and save

Launch Grand Theft Auto 4 and When the loading screen is up Window key to Desktop.

Open up Task Manager and change Priority for GTA.exe to "High" nothing above high.

user posted image

enjoy memory leak or shutter free smile.gif (Don't forget to keep checking your RMclock status)

user posted image

OTHER TWEAKS

I Overclocked my GPU for extra performance

user posted image

I also use Memturbo which it is useful for sparing some memory for Grand Theft Auto 4.

I hope this helps fallen RockStar fans across the globe and if you have any questions or need help please post

positively Thank you

My memory leaked all over the floor.

I have been stepping in it every day.

but since you found a tweak for my hardware, the leak stopped.

I mean the leak that was caused by a software I use called gtaiv.

because of course to fix a leak caused by one thing

fixing another makes the leak stop

and that proves it is the first things fault.

yeah that's how stupid this "Memory leak"

misused phrase is to me.

THERE IS NO MEMORY LEAK, IT IS JUST A SIMPLE PURE OLD SCHOOL FINE EXAMPLE OF SOFTWARE EXCEEDING HARDWARE.!

Edited.

I am sure you helped a few people out with this, but the title is milking a dead Cliché.

i agree on the game exceedng current hardware thing, but i do get memory leaks,

my game got stuck today loading a mission and low and behold gta IV ram usage was growing and growing even though it wasn't doing anything, thats is what i call a memory leak and then the game crashed.

i do believe some people are misusing the phrase but they do occur, just very rarely.

Very witty rebuttal. I am pretty sure you google it, you will see a million people using it.

Whatta ya know. They even have your shirt.

https://www.tisortum.com/site/page.asp?dsy_id=5044

I like when new kids use old stuff to sound brilliant.

Witty rude retorts, do not reflect intellect, they reflect an angry troll with something to prove.

Nice work asshat (fyi, that's a long gone website where it made fun of buzzword f*gs like yourself)

To be fair I have read many pissy rants here on the forums about how GTAIV sucks or is poorly

optimized or how it's coded wrong, and causes memory leaks and such. You must understand why

I feel the way I do about the game. I have installed the game on probably 5 or 6 machines of my own

and have not fallen into any unexpected issues yet.

Might be because I know what I am doing will take the time to fix my machine and use google as apposed

to look for a cure all pill. and when that does not work, break out in a temper tantrum.

Yeah you plainly prove to be a newb.

at the risk of hi jacking this thread - for which has nothing to do wiht memory leaks , all you have done is stop your laptop from throttling itself- well done thats number 1 thing you should do when using a laptop, playing with thermal throttling in a laptop though is a very stupid thing to do.

now for the hi jack bit - yes this game does exceed current hardware there is no arguing about that it is fact the high end graphics settings exceed what todays hardware can do, show me a grahics card that has over a 1gb of memory and i will then conceed.

what you are complaining about is the fact that the game hasn't been optimised to play on lower end/midrange machines very well, theres a difference.

and features has nothing to do with exceeding current day hardware you might as well be arguing that ken doesn't love barbie and just wanted to rip her a new plastic arsehole as it has nothing to do with the arguement.

anyways leave this thread alone. end it, use one of the other threads.

I like the game. So um, look up at the link newb.. it's a gta fansite and this area is clearly for gtaiv pc fans.

so um, who is trolling?

nice copy and paste . now I pick it apart .

no dedicated server support -- mta team is at it now, if you where not such a newb, you would know this.

Multiplayer issues (kicked back to lobby etc) you lag, fix your sh*t

no anti cheat join a better game or host it yourself, kick them as they enter.

poor server admin controls what do you want? server usage is free

poor control mapping hmm I adjusted. not many people griping about it anymore

Many Popular game controllers not supported (including wheels and pedals etc) like console gamers use? I think many people have a fix, start game with controller unplugged. plug game in while in. and there is a reg swap.

heavily unoptimized (DUH) <----- false, just to much for your machine. Experience teaches you this one.

RGSC bloatware Oh boy a whole 2-20 megs of memory being allocated,

Window live bloatware damn you got me there with another 2-20 (depends on activities)

Reflections tied to resolutuon do you know what that means? you sure can't spell it. I really don't want to hear you describe something you found in a wiki

poor graphic options (they didnt want to confuse us lol) The graphics options are great, just limited by your hardware at default refer back to the one where I talk about experience.

missing textures so far on all the machines I have installed on, it only happened to the ones that exceeded 46c/115f. It happens fast

pop ins like it does on the 360, like all games that are to much for hardware, like all gta games have been from the beginning????

poor management of gpu (leans heavily on cpu) only if your cpu is your bottleneck.

No AA (this is a big one for most people) gta never had AA

Poor cpu optimization (3 cores) did you alrady say this?.. I mean now it just feels like filler

poor shadows (flickering also) turn them up, it fixes. higher resolution, better the shadows look.

minimum sys requirements (lies) yeah show me a game that tells the truth about min/max reqs. this is a stupid rant

windows 64bit optimized (lies)

catalyst 8.12 optimized driver (lies) to you but not others??? It would so rock if Rockstar made drivers. let's blame nuclear waste on R* ... k?

Your ignorant to the point that your fanboyism (if there is such a word) is blatant and disgusting. The whole reason developers keep getting away with pumping out half finished products is because failures like yourself find an excuse/settle for it and say sh*t like 'OMG THIS IS A GREAT PRODUCT ' when infact its just a bloated unoptimized mess.

I cbf going through and hammering you for each excuse as to why no ded server support or multiplayer issues etc etc etc.

You Fail, and so did Rockstar when the released this joke of a product.

i doubt mta are working on it at the moment, since mta:sa has gone open source they are working towards their first actual 1.0 release of mta:sa so moving onto a game such as gta4 probably won't be on the cards for a while - if at all.

THERE IS NO MEMORY LEAK, IT IS JUST A SIMPLE PURE OLD SCHOOL FINE EXAMPLE OF SOFTWARE EXCEEDING HARDWARE.!

Right... no leak what so ever... catspider.gif

GTAIV.exe takes little over a gig...

...and once you close the game...

However, despite all this, I was able to complete the game without a single crash @19x12, High, Very High, 25-50-75-0. Slowdowns and dips below 30fps did occur however, and texture pop-ins. Still hoping they'll fix it tho...

HAHAHA

where to start dude.

55 processes.

one of which is Utorrent.

punk buster on auto run.

actually.

just seeing U torrent running in the background says plenty.

you nee to control your start up. and there is no telling how long your game is running. what I mean by that is task manager is not saying that gta just suddenly sucked one gig of data from your machine in a split second. you have to think of it like this.

If I had hard ware, like a ten gig processor, and 10 gigs of ram with a fsb in the gigs area, I would not be feeling any lag. again the hardware would be exceeding the software. if you feel no memory leak then. then there is no corrupt code in the game. corrupt code hurts everyone. This game is not hurting everyone, so something else is going on. what you might want to admit to or a fact you might want to face, is up to you.

but I will tell you what it is, might be a year or so before you believe or understand.

You do not know squat about your computer other than what you read on the box it came in.

wrong. previous GTA games worked with AA if i forced it in nVidia control panel. GTA4 however goes unchanged even if I force 16xAA

PB starts when ever I run a game that uses it, e.g CoD4, it's not on autorun. Fresh from boot, my Vista takes about what you see on the image where GTAIV is closed. The only occasion where my ram peaks like this, is when I run GTAIV.

µtorrent did indeed have a problem with vista x64 and ram consumption in versions <1.8. This was fixed with "Disable Windows caching of disk reads / writes" option. The problem only occured when downloading large, over 1GB files with transfer rates exceeding 1MB/s. This problem is no longer there.

This problem may be Vista exclusive, but no other game I know does this. And it certainly didn't prevent me from enjoying the game...

This just goes to show how much YOU know about computers. AMD Athlon T-Birds came out around 2000, and they sure as hell were Socket-A CPU's. When GTA3 was released on PC, I was running 1.3GHZ T-Bird with GF2 GTS.

i remember being able to play GTA3 with AA after i went from onboard video to FX5600

lol

when gta3 came out.

nvidia 4200 didn't even exist

mx440 was as common as an 8800

socket A processors where not even out yet.

really damn i have bad memory. the point is i remember being in front a building in some steps. and turning AA on and seeing the massive difference in the edges and everything.

then i think i got the FX5600 when I was playing UT2004 and HL2 in 2004.

GTA3 was in 2001 i remember when I played it. I think in those days the Ti 4800 or 4400s were out because when i got my compaq PC, one had a MX card in it but it was a few hundred more for it.

Why does every man and his dog think their theory about why their computer can't play GTA IV is correct, and it must be pinned?

Why does every man and his dog think their theory about why their computer can't play GTA IV is correct, and it must be pinned?

This isn't much of a theory since this actually fixed my shuttering problems and kept my fps rate around 25 to 30, but before this "tweak" if you want to call it, I've been getting shi*ty fps from 10 to 15.

This is a guide to help people who don't have quad cores and such like you apparently mate, this guide is necessary for people who have 1.8ghz duo core laptops or desktops and cannot play the game without shutter crashing within 5 minutes or so.

At the first page posts, if you guys don't mind dropping the whole history about grand theft auto and machines i would gladly appericate it smile.gif lets make second page posts legit about the guide.

Will this be useful for people with desktops? Are power saving features implemented with desktop CPUs?

EDIT: Also, what does the "P-state" thing do? Mine goes to 10.

This may vary for desktop cpu's And yes power saving features are implemented with desktop cpu's and normally they are set to "balence" between power saving mode and maximum power mode.

The P-state refers to Power states, so your max power state is 10 which is the maximum your CPU can go.

Higher the numbers the faster it is, lower the numbers the more power it saves but also slower.

You really don't know how full of sh*t you sound. If you have nothing to contribute to a thread that may help someone then GTFO.

oh these bogus threads

I'm with you.

How about those "memory boost" programs?

I love it when I tell people who go to those that memory boost programs are bs and they call me a newb.

ViperInterface

Well i hate to add to the flames, but someone mentioned above that gta has never had anti aliasing. This is wrong, in san andreas there is an graphics options to change the anti aliasing from 0ff to 2x, 4x, or 6x. Im not saying anyone here is right or wrong about GTAIV being a poorly optimized game, but GTA has used anti aliasing in the past.

Yeah we know viper, he is also wrong about the nvidia 4200 and socket A processors. He lives in his own little world of ignorance.

Gta3 pc released may 2002. The ti 4200's where introduced in march, 2 months before gta3.
