Basically, a ped in a car becomes low quality at 7 units away while they become low quality at 15 units away on foot. Raising these to 30 and 15, respectively (in my personal file, I don't use the full tweak here, game runs fine), took away the switch out to my view (by the time they change now, I can't tell - they are only a few pixels in size by then ) For height, Niko is about 1.5 units. "generic" Sidewalks (i.e. those sidewalks that are the same size as the old games, but just have 8 edges for curbs instead of only 5) are 5 units wide. This makes me believe the ped lod values may not be units, but some other way of measurement, but whatever. See your point. Hassle-free gaming is so much more fun. I wish I had a next-gen console too, but i don't, so i have to waste my time finding solutions to unexpected problems. I would never do it if it wasn't GTA4. PC has some advantages though. Like a mouse support and modding. It makes it a blast. When i drive a 50 ton undestructable Super GT at a speed of 500 mph shooting UZI that has a fire power of a jet fighter's 30 mm cannon, some crazy sh*t begins to happen. Real hell is unleashed. If you saw a man flying half a mile in the air after you shoot at him, you'd wish u had GTA4 for PC God bless to pple who made GTA4 PC moddable! I didnt tried it out, when I am able to play or get FPS Gain on my 9600M GT, I ll report it. And I love you pple who always find solutions/tweaks!!!! A friend came over and we spend several hours trying to make things as crazy as possible. Results - Anihillator shot rockets, it rained cars and bikes (suspension mod - hilarious sh*t), M5 burst molotovs, then grenades, AK with fire rates of a minigun and firepower of a hovitzer cannon, super heavy, super fast cars, rockets that stop in the air right after shooting etc., etc. In a game with a huge world and excellent physics all those things look and feel absolutely amazing and totally mad Edited January 13, 2009 by red_russki Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just in case, please make sure you downloaded MY linked version, not the other mirror (thank you for the mirror HOWTO, it's just to make sure ) Ya I used your package and followed everything correctly from the included READ FIRST.txt. Turned off read only and pasted all the files in GTA IV folder. After replacing the original files also the game won't start. chngdman Posted January 13, 2009 Share Posted January 13, 2009 Yes, it's a virtually empty file, you've got the right one. Edguy - if you only used the file from the first post, that is a problem. Use the zip I shared and just drop it all in there - but wait until I test again it real fast, maybe I mixed up files, and: Let me see if there is an issue with the visualSettings.dat that I uploaded (I made the changes with a paste and I think I should have left more whitespace) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

No - people are not having trouble using my package, I've confirmed through PM with several. It's your file and the magic process they are having problems with (and outright skipping). My package neatly installs your fix - use it, because those who have had problems modded this like old SA and don't know the new rules. Game runs fine for me, no need for the tweak, but thank you for asking. Because there is more to it than just replacing that file. Please download my zip, follow the directions, and please report back to let me know it works for you? Good luck! You should be fine. russki will make your life easier if he replace all of this with link to my package: I uploded it here: http://depositfiles.com/files/zzp6264kx Just don't forget to use MAGIC IV or some other modding prog not to mess up your game. I swear I was totally blown away by the change it made. I was like mercie_blink.gif Damn, I can't believe it!!! Use it to enjoy at least an extra dozen FPS's. (Was my case, anyway). I told you I had 2 gigs of RAM, but today i got 2 more Gigs. And it added another little bunch of smoothness. So i would estimate that everything i mentioned before visualsettings.dat part gave me 20% improved performance. 2 Gigs of Ram added 20% more but the modded visualsettings.dat is the king with 60%! Again, download and use it. Overclocking CPU and using RivaTuner won't hurt neither, but i don't need them any more. One final note. Don't be greedy. Don't try to max out ingame settings. I use pretty modest 1280-1024 Low-Medium-10-15-30-0 and it sure don't look that good, but believe me, when you play even once at real-time speed with NO slow downs, the beauty won't matter, cos you will be enjoying the pure craziness of this otherwise excellent game. Good luck PSS. Don't forget to back up any files u change PPSS. Some ppl's comments made me realize many don't have any idea how to mod the game. Luckily, a man by the name chngdman on page 3 of this thread posted an automated package which supposedly does the whole thing as well as expanation. If you don't know how to substitute game files go right there. red: It's not automated, sorry for confusion!
