do you really really think people would be here on this forum with a gaming PC is they thought the same as you LOL

i used to be just like you then i opened my eyes, some people like modding and tweaking they prefer it and its usually cheaper its why there here so go away and stop trolling

Wow, that made my day too! It increased, well: 10FPS! biggrin.gif

Thanks!!!

Finally someone saw the effect. biggrin.gif Dude, i find the changed grafics pretty tolerable. How do you think?

Yeah, they're pretty good, just the sun looks like it got out of battery tounge.gif Before I got from 15-25FPS, not it's from 20-40FPS. smile.gif

See your point. Hassle-free gaming is so much more fun. I wish I had a next-gen console too, but i don't, so i have to waste my time finding solutions to unexpected problems. I would never do it if it wasn't GTA4. PC has some advantages though. Like a mouse support and modding. It makes it a blast. When i drive a 50 ton undestructable Super GT at a speed of 500 mph shooting UZI that has a fire power of a jet fighter's 30 mm cannon, some crazy sh*t begins to happen. Real hell is unleashed. If you saw a man flying half a mile in the air after you shoot at him, you'd wish u had GTA4 for PC smile.gif

Don't let them discourage you Red_Russki - You know you are helping people. And I know you are as well.

I think maybe the best step in there, and the only I can vouch for since I know the files, is the visualsettings.dat file - that is a good tweak, at a cost to graphics.

If it's breaking your computer then you don't known what you're doing. Just replace the the downloaded "visualsettings.dat" with the original and your game should load as before. If you have overwritten the original here is a link to it:

Could not help but see your sig, dstrogiy

It is slower to run this game on resolutions below 1024x768 on any capable machine to run it. At 800x600, you are essentially forcing the game to fight over what - and what parts of what - to render. Get your res up. Ignore this if you are below system reqs, but for the most part, the game runs better and better the higher you go until you meet your cards' limits.

Try your tex on low and your res higher. then bump that tex back up - I think normal maps are what slow you, guessing only by those settings and while assuming a low end card at fault.

Do you really need Magic for this?

I will make a quick easy to install package for those who want to try this mod. BRB.

@red_russki: I have packaged your visualSettings.dat into a package anyone can install without issues. You can replace your other link with this one, and

remove the stuff about magic files, as there is no need for them with this mod.

My package patches filelist.pak with Aru's empty file, applies the files.txt fix, and installs the new visualSettings.dat.

Here is the download link: http://www.ziddu.com/download/3171452/perf...ncemod.zip.html (right click/copy link location to paste into your info/tips post)

Readme (included in zip):

For GTA Forums, C/O red_russki, packed by chngdman, mod credit unknown, simple graphical and ambient pedestriansound config edit for testing and better performance of GTA IV.This is being packaged for those who want to test this out for themselves quickly with minimal modding knowledge.Preface:Any file named with a ".orig." in the title is the ORIGINAL file for the game. This is important because if youwant to undo the changes this mod makes, you will be deleting the files of the same name and removing ".orig" fromthe file names. For example, files.orig.txt replaces the new files.txt you got here and is back to normal. More onthis later.Installation:To install the mod, first right click the GTA IV folder (the one with all the game files in it gtaiv.exe etc) anduncheck read-only, apply to all files and subfolders. All you do after this has completed is highlight everything inside of the COPY folder, right click and copy, thenpaste right into the GTA IV folder you just gave write privilages to (you cant overwrite read-only files). You will be asked if you are sure you want to overwrite files, "yes to all".The performance mod is now installed and ready to play.Back in Time:If you feel this is not a good fix for you, or you are unhappy with the results, simply refer back to this mod archiveor this readme itself (file list at the bottom) and begin removing all the "new" files (normal names) you got here, andrenaming their ".orig" to the file you just deleted. So, if you delete files.txt, as stated before installation, justrename files.orig.txt to files.txt. Same for each of the other files.Viola, back to normal.File List:GTA IV\files.txtGTA IV\common\data\visualSettings.datGTA IV\pc\data\filelist.pak

Well, I'm kinda right in the bottom of min specs, in 1024*768 it's slower. Low textures don't add any fps, but look ugly.

Low fps (it's still playable =) - it's probably the proccesor's fault.

BTW, the hack didn't make any difference.

orly.gif hahah if you say so, you must be one of our local 10 yr old fanboys

I play all my games in 1080p (1920x1080) 100hz

The difference between no aa and forcing 4/8 x is absolutley amazing. the change in picture quality is huge. Try it with any of your other games that all support aa. Playing with textures on high means nothing without it.

I know , what i mean is that even w/o AA GTA 4 looks good at all max GFX settings imo. wink.gif

An optomized PC version with aa implemented (not even including the removal of bloatware and ded server support + anticheat) the game WOULD have been the biggest thing since doom master levels. At the moment it simply feels like broken software, which is unfortunate. I hope they fix it, but i think its unlikely. Its got about 2 months left on my hd, if its not fixed.
