Can I play it?

Recommended Posts

I just got GTA IV. I finished installation and tried running it. It ran fine.Slightly slow but not unplayable. Once i got into the game I realised that there were many problems. I was driving on the street and suddenly the street and every thing disappeared.Only peds n the car were visible.

I've checked the minimum requirements. I think my pc should be able to handle it.Just about.

I read the topic about using commandline.txt. But I have no idea about how to do any of that stuff. I'd really appreciate any help to make it run better.

Here are my PC's Specifications:

Core 2 duo processor: 2.4 Ghz

Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3

Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT 512 MB

1 GB of RAM

160 GB Hard Drive

Chandru

I installed the latest drivers for my GPU. There was an improvement.I then went to the graphics settings on GTA and changed the resolution to 800X600 with the lowest possible frequency. Changed the shadow option to 1. Changed texture quality to low. After these changes the game ran with almost no problems.I even managed to do th first mission. Then I saved the game and quit. When I restarted the game it went back to the default graphics settings and I had the same problems. So I made those changes again but this time the changes had no effect.

Are there other tweaks I can make outside the game. Thanks for any help.

The game is working on and off. Is there a way by which I can keep the graphics settings permanent once I've changed them? And given my Specs what are the optimum settings I should run the game at? Are there any changes I can make to my Graphics Card settings to make the game run better?
