Yeah...we all do.

Nothing like a brand spanking new game with ugly circa 1999 jaggies.

Thanks Rockstar

I can force the anti-aliasing with the control panel, maybe you should test with 8x. Now my graphics has less jagged colgate.gif

No you don't. Trust me. No trust? sad.gif Ok, I'll explain.

Press P key. Still looks like sh*t? Buy new computer, better monitor, run at full size res supported, and you see why there is no AA in this application. Oh, you can't run at that res? Not until those kind of computers are cheaper? Ah, now future PCs makes sense. No? Ok, more blabber of me confused.gif

AA is a thing of the past, my friends. It costs a lot of resource to do something that costs way less to just make bigger resolution these days.

AA was a smoke and mirror trick to compensate of "futuristic" 1280x1024 resolution on PCs that could only run 800x600. As time moved on, it was used at higher and higher resolutions and people grew fond of it and people even started buying GFX cards based on how well they could anti alias their CS:S without lagging out their headshots...

Now though, this trick is inexpensively destroyed and resources for the machine are regained by simply running a less expensive for resources, but much higher, resolution for your games.

Anti Aliasing is for faking higher resolutions - it is for the illusion of a larger pixel count, which naturally reduces the jagginess of pixels and fighting of close hard lines at a far clip. Suddenly, for 90% of people reading this post, "Future PCs" makes sense, and they no longer care for anti aliasing - god bless your sound and safe decision

Anti aliasing an 800x600 screen to make it look like a 1024 to 1280 ish size screen slows you down more than just running at that resolution. Again, Anti Aliasing is really for people who can't get up to that resolution, and for a while is was an extra spice for those who were able to reach that resolution and still not get slow downs with it enabled. It is a thing of the past, and the less you see it, the more you should be happy that you are really seeing technology, particularly on screen graphics, FINALLY take a much needed step away from smoke and mirrors and toward actual rendering.

Run the game at a higher resolution. You can't? Get a new monitor - PC games are supposed to be encourage people to upgrade (and OFTEN upgrades - they really want you buying a GFX card every two months as a gamer, every 6 months as a casual - just in case none of you know that... they want GFX cards to be hand-in-hand with game releases...), not making them mad at their old PCs wink.gif

Games lead the way for sh*t to be powerful enough for the future of what we all currently take for granted. The internet? Sweeping changes are coming... 3D games - in your browser - like, GTA IV quality though, none of this "shockwave" or "flash" based bullsh*t - Full DX - in your browser. Not to mention Pod PCs where they boot in ten seconds and EVERY program on it is remote - on a server - yes, digital distribution will win the war, because your hard drive is soon to only be for your files, not for your programs.... THAT is how they'll beat piracy, btw.

lol, see, I start talking about anti aliasing and into the fundamentals of the future we roll...

You must not be playing at high-end resolution (or playing at present-day mid range res, while future standard for desktop is 1080p and gaming expect 4x)? I agree, GTA IV comes across like they purposefully added jaggies, but I think that just means where I once thought other games had AA disabled, they must just have some basic enabled in other games, software and not hardware or something, and it must just cost too much on resources to do do something like that with GTA IV.
