Rick_Stiles
Hi all, As some of you may have seen from my previous posts, I have been getting massive stuttering, and only 3-6FPS according to FRAPS. At times I would get 0 FPS, and the game would just stall for 10 or more seconds. My setup: Asus P5NSLI Motherboard Intel 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo 2Ghz Ram BFG 7950GT OC Win XP 140GB of free space I had done the usual: - Cleaned hard drive and defrag - Run 8 malware/spyware/anti-virus programs to clean out all junk - Update all drivers inc. Graphics card, bios, sound, chipset, etc. - Used the commandline functions recommended on this board - Used memory boosting programs ie cacheboost All that, and I could still not get above 6fps at the lowest settings. So I downloaded the ASUS Probe utility that monitors computer temperatures. To my astonishment I found that my GPU was not stressed, my mobo wasn't, but my CPU was seeing temps of over 75 degrees celsius at IDLE!!!! I opened up my case, and sure enough, the damn fan over my processors was clogged. Gave it a quick cleaning, and restarted the comp. Now the CPU temps are at 40 degrees celsius. So I decided to try GTA4. No stuttering, steady 15-20FPS. So I decided to up my graphics settings. Set everything to medium, and I still have 15-20fps, and the game looks great. COLES NOTES: - Clean your fans - Gained 10-15 FPS - No Stuttering - No Memory Leak - Used to play on low, now play on medium. Thanks for listening, and maybe this will help someone. Cheers! FRAGEYE
Good to hear. Yes some people overlook overheating. Can be common cause for bad lag etc. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/391829-how-i-fixed-my-stuttering/#findComment-1058871156 Share on other sites
