hmmm, but wait, I have a 1.86GHZ processor, and 2 gigs of ram, and an HD 3850 that GTA IV only uses 38% of and a stead 30FPS, give and take, give more than take. I do not overclock and do not know how, really. I'm stock. Come play my machine!

And left 4 dead? Yea, a PC game, developed on the world renowned Source Engine, the same engine designed to scale down to 10 year old PCs. And it's doing jack sh*t except instancing zombies and tracking 4 players. Of course it runs fine. lol.

 

 

Oh wait, I just noticed, you have a Laptop - this is not a laptop game, is not supported for laptops, I think it is indeed on the box, and a laptop is not for gaming regardless of what they claim. They will never play the newest games. If you want a laptop to play EVERY game you can think of, it needs to have come out 6 months after those games. Otherwise, it's give or take, and no company supports laptops - they are not even performing at what your specs say - they are very conservative - you cannot expect to game on a laptop + gta IV unless your laptop is BAD ASS! or you wait a year or two. period. And mobile 8600GT is laughable, stutters with Assassins Creed, my friend has a dell, probably the same damn computer as yours, he got it for gaming and I called him a dumbass. Nice laptop, but it's not for games...

you can set a ratio to work out whatever memory speed, most motherboards automatically work it out for you, but im not sure about going lower that the fsb, i always thought that caused crashes/bottleknecks.

@chngdman, I don't know how you managed to get the game running so well on a PC with those specs but I truly am envious. I would love to be able to play this game as you can and the fact that I cannot saddens me.

 

We shouldn't have to spend so much time tweaking a game when our computer's exceed minimum expectations, laptop or desktop. I honestly cannot recall any game I've had to dink around with setting and command lines so much just to get the game tolerable at minimum specs. There's plenty of other games that work more than adequately right out of the box.

It actually protects me from freezes to lower my ram to under 533mhz, but not just with GTA, with any game, stalker, mass effect, etc, youtube HD, freezes my sh*t after a while, always need to take a break before it happens, or downclock. Of course, that causes my sh*t to skip frames But I just deal with it and make sure I only play like an hour at a time, or only watch HD youtube when I set my ram slow. It's something with my AGP bus, or my bios, or the GFX card is defective, I don't know yet.

 

I hope I get to help, Blazur, I really do. I have a feeling it's going to be something unbelievable. Like, I didn't have problems with GTA, luckily, but I did and continue to have problems with my graphics card. But yea, with these specs, that's why it became so important to try to find help - because I know it is possible, even if gta or not my PC has a serious issue right now, it does run it, and well. So there's GOT to be something we can find.

 

I agree, it should not be so hard, and there is definitely soem issues that are for sure genuine, but many, and not all, and im not saying any one person in particular, but many problems are on our sides, not the games. After reading more and more between posts here, I am seeing there must be something that is affecting some users on a large scale, what is it? I don't know. But these issues are more rare than the ones most commonly complained about (the slow tex loading, FPS, choppiness, no AA).

That's a point I have been trying to make since day 1, but a lot of people seem to not understand. Maybe it's lack of experience but no one wants to say they have lack of experience.

 

So it works on your computer, but what about all my computers? Why does the xbox 360 version work beautifully in my house and only that? Why do I have friends that complain about it so much like I do. How does a lot of people have different bugs, errors, and graphic problems?

 

Why doesn't games like Left 4 Dead have these problems? Why does GTA 4 not let you choose to tweak your graphics without commandlines? Why does it come on screen saying your computer is slow and automatically kicks you out of your own game? Honestly, why put that code in there? It's a waste, if you have a slow computer so what, but I have a computer that superflys all the specs necessary and the game still f*cks up. There is too many problems here to just assume GTA 4 is just fine and everyone is cry babies. Look around my friend!

@noVa, the game loads, the script runs, you lose control and those resources go to monitoring/console apps that watch the game play out, and bada bing, bada boom. Time taken, I dunno, maybe in case you freeze up for a minute.

 

I think the benchmark is probably "more generous" for some because it does not load AI cars, only recorded MP, probably of rockstar north testing, with nothing going on except for map and those characters and I think some parked cars, but I don't think I saw those earlier either.

R* may not have ‘f*cked’ me, but they have certainly mislead me. If I need an FSB of over 800MHZ then this should be CLEARLY STATED on the packaging. By presenting specs that I am far in excess of they are giving me the impression that I will be able to use their product. I am not, so this is deception. I shouldn’t have to spend hours trawling the internet to find-out whether the game will play on my system or not (which, for the record, all of the ‘test your capability’ sites tell me it will). This should be CLEARLY STATED on the packaging of their product. Furthermore, I shouldn’t have to arse-around tweaking various ‘command lines’ in the game, as suggested elsewhere on this forum -I’ve paid them £35 to do that for me (i.e. their job). Maybe, being a ‘noob’, I have some rather naive assumptions about the state PC games should be in before they’re released, but I have to say that this release contravenes numerous trading-standards regulations, foremost among these being that the product should actually work (at least on systems that operate at or above their recommended specifications). I don’t think this is unreasonable. If they don’t release a patch (or recall the product and re-release it) VERY soon then I want my money back. Anyone up for the small-claims court?

And left 4 dead? Yea, a PC game, developed on the world renowned Source Engine, the same engine designed to scale down to 10 year old PCs. And it's doing jack sh*t except instancing zombies and tracking 4 players. Of course it runs fine. lol.

 

 

Oh wait, I just noticed, you have a Laptop - this is not a laptop game, is not supported for laptops, I think it is indeed on the box, and a laptop is not for gaming regardless of what they claim. They will never play the newest games. If you want a laptop to play EVERY game you can think of, it needs to have come out 6 months after those games. Otherwise, it's give or take, and no company supports laptops - they are not even performing at what your specs say - they are very conservative - you cannot expect to game on a laptop + gta IV unless your laptop is BAD ASS! or you wait a year or two. period. And mobile 8600GT is laughable, stutters with Assassins Creed, my friend has a dell, probably the same damn computer as yours, he got it for gaming and I called him a dumbass. Nice laptop, but it's not for games...

So as we stand, the facts still remain, even with a benchmark score at around 60-FPS it will tranlate into a stuttering sub 30 FPS experience in-game.

Right click my computer -> Properties -> Advanced Tab -> Advanced tab in the next window that pops up as well -> see Virtual Memory, click Change button.

 

Do you have 2+ gigs of ram? Set to 3070/3070 or 2046/4092 - if that doesn't help, it's not the problem, or you need to remove the page file (options are there) altogether and make a new one (preferably on a different partition), and finally defrag, and do the steps before a second time, this time removing the new page file and putting it back where it was (on the system partition) You can also put it to another partition if you want, and you may notice significant gains from a separate disk altogether.

 

However, if the page file meets these recommended sizes above, it may be fragmented, which is the whole purpose of the steps above, to make sure you have one contiguous page file.

Nowhere on the specs is there mobile technology. the minimum and recommended specs outline desktop hardware, there are to T or M chips there. Your 8600 is not an 8600. It is a mobile 8600.

If it really was the pagefile, Rockstar would of come out with that solution as a temporary fix. No pagefile might help but it's not going to turn the game into perfect condition if you suffer from a lot of errors.

HAI GAIZ! I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING! I DO NOT HAVE - REPEAT I DO NOT HAVE - .NET 3.5 installed. The game installed .netFX3, and now that is on my system, but I DO NOT have 3.5

 

Could 3.5 be a problem for those with issues?!?!!? it is NOT required even though they say it is (living proof here)
