gta 4 require a powerful cpu so i recommend quad core(q6600), and for GPU 8800 might do the job for now.

Yeah, seems that this game is very CPU heavy. Get the CPU.

I should also add that i have a 19" WS (1440x900) I was going to get the quad core phenom and a decent card that would fit in my $160 budget

in general you can never go wrong with a CPU upgrade. With this game that should be emphasized even more so, it's very cpu hungry.

But...you don't say a whole lot about what CPU and video card you have now or what'll run in your current motherboard CPU wise, which would help to make the most informed decision. Unless you have a board that only supports a CPU just barely better than the one you have though you'll probably be happier with a CPU upgrade to play GTA IV, and possibly happier with it overall.

I hope you have other games to play with your upgrade cause this piece of sh*t game is not worth it. DO NOT upgrade your machine to play this game.

What is going on here. Your system is close to mine. I just upgraded to a 9550 quad and it is beautiful! Read my post "Clean Vista and new quad" http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=391334

AM2 suck?

i don't think you got a clue bud.

While intel users are forced to buy an expensive new mainboard and expensive DDR3 memory to upgrade to their super expensiv core i7, AMD users on the other side can keep their AM2/AM2+ boards since it is compliant with the new Phenom II X4.

Only rich boys are looking for the fastest, the others just keep loving AMD and ATI taking ground again wink.gif

I'm not a amd fanboy, but i never lost using their hardware for over 15 years.

I recommend going for a Phenom II over a Phenom as its way more powerful and worth it.

If you have onboard 8100 graphics, there's no way you'll be able to run the game. So you'll need to get a GPU and a CPU. But in your case a GPU upgrade would be the wiser choice as even if you get a Phenom II, you won't be able to run the game with your onboard graphics.

Go for a video card upgrade first. I suggest a minimum of a 9600GT for this game.

Please tell me where you can get a Q6600 for 160 bucks. I just spent 179.99 at Newegg for it mad.gif

This is what I recommend biggrin.gif

For CPU I would recommend this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115200

For GPU I would recommend this:

Atleast mention that you're joking. What if the OP takes it seriously?

That CPU is fine, but the quadro is a workstation card and so wouldn't run GTA IV well at all.

I would save a little more money and get some better upgrades. I had an 8800GTS with one of the slowest core2duo processors available that ran at 1.8GHz stock. When overclocked to 3.0GHz, GTA IV ran OK, but still wasn't the most smooth. I just upgraded to a new Q9550 quad core processor, and I can now play the game at my max settings and it is smooth, no more stutters. You can't have a great cpu and a bad gpu, or the other way around. You're gonna need a decent gpu and cpu combination.

He was not being serious, he was just joking. Don't even think of getting that video card for gaming.

Anyway, like I said before, you'll have to get a better processor AND a better, actual, video card to run IV well. But I say a video card is more important than a CPU in your case. You could get more performance from your CPU by overclocking smile.gif.

ok that being said. I was thinking about an amd 5200 x2 and a 9800 gt

How do u think that will be on a 19" ws?

To be honest, that CPU would just bottleneck the hell out of that nice card. If going with AMD, the minimum I'd recommend is a Phenom and Phenom II would be best.

That card is excellent. You don't need to change that wink.gif.
