nemesi5
i wouldn't suggest you to get a super-expensive processor such as Core i7, because it isn't better than a Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770,in GAMING.For other purposes, I do not have an idea, but in gaming my CPU beats 965 extreme Core i7..just view the "Core2extreme versus core i7" thread in my sig for more info. and as for the 4870X2 , it's the fastest GPU TILL DATE on this Planet, named as 'earth'. it has awesome GDDR5 memory, what can you expect? He's high, the GTX 295 is faster, don't worry the 940 will make a dramatic improvement, the i7's were meant to be on GTA IV Edited January 9, 2009 by nemesi5

Pixelated
What sucks about the GTA IV benchmark is that it in no way, shape or form comes close to reflecting actual gameplay. I ran my own tests using FRAPS vs the in game benchmark and there was at minimum a 15FPS difference. I think Rockstar knew how awful this game scales so they watered down the benchmark so as to add some confusion or doubt in there. Or simply hope you believed the GTA IV benchmark and didn't bother with another.

Medium settings: Buildings flicker and dissapear when I drive fast but it looks quite good. Sethos
Here's a preliminary static benchmark, had to use 8.11 Catalyst drivers on my 4870X2 due to some flaws in the 8.12's but apparently they are also in the 8.11's and I refuse to go further back. Also, the 8.11 drivers didn't activate Crossfire during the game, so these benchmarks are based on using ONE card in the 4870X2 and it was also my bottleneck. I tried taking a screenshot but apparently, they come out black with the 8.11's Average FPS: 60.27 CPU Usage: 35% System Memory Usage: 47% Video Memory Usage: 93% ( Definitely my bottleneck right now, going to install 8.12s and test again ) Video Mode: 1920 x 1200 Texture Quality: High Render Quality: Very High View Distance: 32 Detail Distance: 100 Game is running extremely smooth but as I have just re-installed Vista due to the upgrading pretty much breaking my installation. So I gotta get fraps up and running, play around with settings and commandlist and hope 8.12s enable some Crossfire support again. But so far I am very impressed, can't wait to overclock the CPU as well, though extremely pointless when the usage isn't even above 40%

First off there are three i7's on the market now. The pricing is roughly: i7 920 $300, i7 940 $500, i7 965 EE $1000. The OP was buying the $500 i7 940. You are telling him not to buy a new $1000 i7 (even though he stated he's getting the $500 940) but instead are saying he should get the $1000 QX9770. I fail to see the difference other than the i7 is new and the QX9770 will be EOL in a few months, they both cost the same.
punkboy459
I am currently running i7 core 920 processor. I'm not quite very happy about it because I don't see that much differences from Q9950. Also if you want i7 core you're gonna need DDR3 ram, and new mobo that support i7 core cost me around $650 pretty cheaper for me but it's more average like $700. biggeo
Mjello, Today I decided to upgrade my old Core 2 Extreme X6800 rig to something a bit faster, an i7. The specs are looking like this; Asus P6T/WS/Professional Intel Core i7 940 3 x 2048 Corsair PC10666 Gigabyte 4870X2 2GB I was getting around 25-30 true-gameplay average FPS at 1920x1200, High - High, Sliders to 30, except Shadow Dens. Can I expect a decent boost with the above rig, I heard GTA IV uses up multiple cores really well? I tried the game in an i7 PC, Kingston KVR1066D3N7/2G 6x 2GB DDR3 1066 (12 GB total), M/B GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5, TWO MSI GTX280N-T2D1G-OC 1GB PCI-E GRAPHIC CARD in SLI , i7-920 2.66 GHZ processor, 2 320GB SATA II MAXTOR HD, Optriac 7201S DVD-RW, WindowsXP 64-BIT At first it crashed, then when load had no more than 35-50 FPS at high settings, but in some cvases still game drop under 30 fps. So I don't think it's CPU or graphic card related. It's just a console game with a PC suite. This game NEVER optimized for PC.
