Knife
Well, microsoft has had fun here messing and moving things around. Don't like the start bar links going to libraries instead of the documents folder/pictures folder etc. Don't like jump lists simply because right clicking an icon to close it requires more mouse movement Though I think jump-lists in the start menu are pretty good. OMG THE TASKBAR GLOWS THE SAME COLOUR AS THE ICONS! Hovering over the taskbar items to reveal windows without actually selecting them is very nice. But the taskbar transparency looks sh*t with anything other than the default background (or similar). I hope they come up with a nice design without transparency before release. Aero without transparency doesn't look very nice.

okei
Try a download manager. Does anybody know where I can find some ATI drivers that work on Windows 7?
miocene
I did a clean install of Windows 7 and it works great. My pc needed it as I kept getting BSOD on Vista. Got the following drivers/programs working so far: Nvidia 181.20 drivers VLC media player Firefox Thunderbird MS Office 2007 I'll try with GTAIV at some point but it didn't run great before on Vista so I'll probs leave it a while Edit: Here's a pic of my desktop: Seems to be pretty light on resources! Chadg
Just got it installed on my White Macbook, and it is working like a charm. the only thing I need to do is find a driver for the sound, and I'm done with installing the main components. I might install this on my old Compaq PC that I don't use anymore
okei
Is this normal? On Vista it tells me that my hard drive is 5.8, but in Windows 7 it tells me that it's only 3.0. Can creating partitions make a hard drive perform worse or something?

Aero without transparency doesn't look very nice. If the taskbar is too big for you - right click it, then on the first tab (Taskbar) put a checkmark on "Use Small Icons" - this will make it "normal" size again. As for the Transparency - try a different color. Right Click your desktop, choose "Personalize" then go to Window color at the bottom. It let's you mix the color to your liking. Personally, I'm using the Slate color because I use alot of dark color backgrounds. It's also possible to make the window solid. Right under the color selector is a checkbox for "Enable Transparency". You can still change it's color, but it won't be transparent anymore. @ Picolini Have you figured out the jump list yet? So far, I've unpinned the media player, added one for the Control Panel and one for Oulook. I might have been a lil confused as to what you were saying about it earlier........ Picolini
I can pin programs just fine. It's pinning folders which is the problem. They used to always just pin to the jump list of the Windows Explorer icon (the first default icon), but I can't figure out how to do that anymore... @Gangsta Killa, just get the Torrent from thepiratebay, it's the exact same one MS is allowing you to download, so there's really nothing illegal about it. Make sure you get the GenUiNE version though, that's the right one. @okei, I got a damn 2.1 for my hard drive. Not sure if I said it in this thread yet, but I think it's ridiculous. 7,200rpm, 32MB cache. Don't see how much better it can get currently, seeing as how the fastest HDDs are only 10,000rpm, and SSD's aren't THAT much faster.

Ahh ok - I did not get to use that feature much as I did not keep Vista long. On this one I can do the progs, but haven't tried the folders.....I think it just defaults to explorer, right? Makes sense as when you are browsing your PC you are using explorer. I'm wondering - Anyone else having trouble with the sidebar? I click it, but it never opens? If I click while in Procmon, I can see the process open, but then it closes without really opening. I've tried re-registering the .dll's associated with it, but nothing. Anyone else got this, or is it just me?
Chargr
I like how WMP12 looks, anyone know if its possible(Or has it been released?) to download to Vista? I searched Google, but I don't trust the rapidshare link.
Picolini
WMP12 does look nice, but as I said before it won't play all of my .avi videos. For instance it will play all of season 17 of Simpsons, but nothing before (the entire season 1 through 16). I don't get it. Don't know if you can get it for Vista. I wouldn't, in fear it won't play my videos. And yes, I tried several codecs.

I got a 5.9 for my HDD (Its 2 160GBs in RAID 0) It goes up to 7.9 which I guess is for really fast SSDs. Edmachine
Hello! I'm thinking of trying out Windows 7. Since I don't want to partition my hard drive (something I've never done, though I have a lot of free space, I don't want to f*ck something up), I thought, that I might use a notebook hard drive. However, it is an IDE drive and is connected through an USB port. I know, that it will impact my performance, but by how much? Also, if you think I shouldn't use this method, as it will be painfully slow (or impossible to install W7 on it), please tell me precisely, how to partition my hard drive (I have Hiren's Boot Disk 9.something, if needed). Thanks in advance! EDIT: I can't even download it. When using Firefox, it just reloads the page (and gives a new key sometimes), when I click Download Now. Internet Explorer brings me to a download manager thing (which I've downloaded) and goes back to the Download Now. Picolini
I HAVE to, or DON'T have to? Why would I? It's a clean install on Windows 7. And what do I do when I click on the Redistribution folder...?? @Edmachine, making partitions isn't hard or dangerous, really. The worst part maybe just be that you can't merge the partition back to the main drive so you'll have a "separate" drive permanently. Nothing that bad, imo. Go here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/309000 Read the "How to use Disk Management" and then "How to create a new partition or a new logical drive" Basically you just right click the drive you want to make the new partition from, select New Partition, specify it's size, name it and label it (letter drive). Then format. Bada-bing bada-boom. @Sixdust, that 32-bit link doesn't work.
