UndeadDevil
No offense, but one thinking you can install GTA IV on a OS that is still in early beta and don't experience any perfomance issues is a fool. If you wanted to save yourself a lot of the trouble you could just have a dualboot with XP or Vista with GTA IV installed and one for Win 7 that you don't install it on. The whole point of the beta is so people test games, etc and report the bugs. Its ironic though how no one will be able to install GTA IV when they go and buy Windows 7 Final. What kind of Future-Proof Game refuses to install on any OS other than XP/Vista I couldn't get past SecuRom, so once again I had to kill it (Thanks FEDOR) Game then runs fine, in fact it feels more responsive and doesn't stutter now. (Maybe a few more FPS but haven't installed FRAPS yet)
Thump
Anybody got any idea on how I can get this to run? It worked fine once and then hasn't worked since. Triznriz
Even in compatibility mode, I still get the "0xc0000005" application error. The exe does start in the compatibility troubleshooter, but it gives the "Incompatible with %P" error. No compatibility mode set results in the "Incompatible with %P error too. Is there some update or something that I'm missing? Edited January 12, 2009 by Triznriz

solrayz
I chose the upgrade option from Vista to Windows 7 and have had no issues with GTAIV. Performance does seem negligibly better since its hard to tell with my current system and with the new 181.20 DOX drivers I am using.

gaspah
so really.. is itgoing to be that difficult to install on windows 7 every single time? having to install gTAIV in compatibility mode, then having to download he latest games for windows or whatever and c++ redistributable (and i havent even started playing yet)... its decided. I'm returning this game, and never ever mentioning the name Rockstar again. You'd think being so close to Windows 7 they'd've made it compatible with WIndows 7. your draconian drm crap is driving your customers away, yet piracy is still rampant.. morons. no ifs or buts, never buying another R* title again. I should have listened to all the people on forums advising me to steer clear of this heap of garbage. now i understand. im sure glad i have 14 more days to return this to EB Games (harbor town, perth)... Gosh its gonna piss me off if i have to reinstall. well... if you're gonna get a new HD, you could always installl W7 onto that and not worry about backing up your other stuff. Plus you can set up dual-boot so you can always flip back to your old OS after a restart. That's how I have my system set up, and I'm loving it, though I've moved on from GTA until R* get's a patch out. I'm splitting my game-time between Mass Effect and Bioshock now. THE GAME WILL BE PATCHED! It's R*'s only real online game, and it would be stupid of them not to get it running better, and with atleast 2.5 million people now using W7, they're gonna have to make it compatible, and maybe even add some enhancements for Direct X 11. Also, If they weren't patching it, why would they be watching these forums and asking people to be specific about their issues? The way I see it, the longer it takes to get it out, the better it will be in the end. They rushed the game out for Christmas, and they won't make that mistake again. Be patient people! It's only been 6 weeks since release.

Oh, yesterday it just halted my CPU. I'd assume it was a memory leak in Win 7 caused by some process or other, but it's an interesting note all the same.
