J0EBUSHID0
I just instaled the windows 7 beta onto my secondary SATA drive.. it's running well with internet and everything, but when I try to instal GTAIV, I get this error "you system is incompatible with %P, please visit the following link for more information" and it displays a link to Microsoft... When I click that link, it gives a bunch of info on XP Service pack 3, which is obviously something I don't need right now. I know some of you have been able to get this bitch running on W7, did any of you run into this? If so, how did you fix it?
Drag_Drift
Go to the DVD contents and set the compatibility mode for setup.exe to windows XP. That should run it.
Gtamacca
Run compatible mode with *Windows XP SP2*.
noVa
pretty sure this has been said before, you have to set the setup files (including the live redistributables, c++ etc) to XP sp2 compatability, //edit.. well now it has twice in this one thread lol. J0EBUSHID0
Go to the DVD contents and set the compatibility mode for setup.exe to windows XP. That should run it. thanx.. I actually just tried that and it's installing right now.. By the way, to anyone reading this who has FPS issues, the only solution I found to it was to overclock my CPU.. even raising the FSB by 20Mhz added about 5-10 more FPS in the benchmark, and a smoother game over all... (just thought I'd add that)
noVa
http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=390928 please post your before and after benchmarks if you have them in this thread when your done as mine are the only ones atm and 1 set of results is not conclusive. I actually don't have proof of this, which is why I just mentioned it in passing and am not making a big deal of it. Thoug if you must know, my FPS went from 16-17 to 26-27 when O OC'd my 175 opteron Dual core from 2.2g to 2.4g. I also have an 8800 GT which has been amazing for every other game I own... I didn't get hardcore into the OC-ing thing because I only have stock cooling. Like I said before, I only upped the FSB a little, left everything else on "Auto" and didn't touch my RAM But once I get this bitch running on W7 and upgrade my fan, I'll get a little more into it and post detailed results. Hopefull by thne R* will have the second patch available... I have faith it's comming simply because GTAIV is much more on-line focused than anything else they've made. OC'ing is already more or less confirmed as working (to what degree i don't know) but my e8400 oc'd from 3.0ghz to 3.8ghz gave a definite boost. streetlifeg
I also usually OC the processor from base 2.5ghz to around 3.3ghz while playing GTAIV. Just have to make sure once in a while that the temp isn't getting too high. My usual load temp. with OC'ed processor is around 45celsius on GTAIV. It definitely helps with the performance of the game & you get better FPS, smoother movement, etc.. After playing I recommend to put the clock frequency back to normal (or close to it), saves electricity, less stress on the processor, less heat generated

J0EBUSHID0
I'm knid of new to all this. I know you guys said to go to DVD contents but how do you get there. If someone could just give me a quick step by step guide I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance. no problem... click your start button --> computer (or My Computer on XP) --> right-click on the "IV" logo which is the DVD for GTAIV --> Select "open" (or "Explore" on XP) A seperate window should open up showing all the DVD's contents. If you're looking to install in compatibility mode, then continue into the "GTAIV" folder and look for a file simply called "setup". You might see 2 different files with that name, you want the one that's dark-blue says "application" when you park your mouse icon over it. Right click on that and choose "troubleshoot compatibility". You'll get a wizard that will ask you which version of windows ran the program for you earlier, I picked "Windows XP" to get it to install on my Windows 7. With that in mind, I haven't tried this on Vista, but the same steps should apply, assuming that's the windows you have. hope this helps!
CJ_Vercetti
I set the compatibility to Windows XP SP2 but now it immediately gives message Setup.exe has stopped working and offers me to send an error report to MS... What to do?! I don't want to be forced to choose between Windows 7 and GTA4... P.S. I also set the compatibility of all the files in Redistributable folder but in vain, I still get this error message... BolgAryan
Hey guys, I have a retail version of the game, I followed instructions spread on the web to run the setup as xp sp2 and run the game as win2k but for some reasons when trying to launch the game it throws an error "SecuLauncher: failed to start application. [2000]"... is that crap recognizing my game as illlegal? I tried with a securom bypasser but it comes with error that it can't run GTAIV.exe. Perhaps it has something to do that during the setup installation of the redistrubatles crashed because I had forgotten to set its compatabilities and I had to manually install them and I am not sure if GFWL was installed. I still tried to run it manually but it simply doesn't let because it requires winxp sp2 eventhough I have set it to run as such Any ideas and advices are much appeciated, mates! Thump
Windows 7 makes me regret buying this on Steam =/ I've set every executable in the GTA folder to run in XPSP2 and I tried it in Vista compatibility mode, and it just isn't working for me. It was working fine this morning when I gave it a test run

Obsidian_
No offense, but one thinking you can install GTA IV on a OS that is still in early beta and don't experience any perfomance issues is a fool. If you wanted to save yourself a lot of the trouble you could just have a dualboot with XP or Vista with GTA IV installed and one for Win 7 that you don't install it on.
